gbounds
FYI...Just comparing specs between the 03 and the 04 Silverado SS. All the specs were the same including the dry curb weight at 5013 lbs. Except: Fuel Capacity 26.0 vs 34.0 gal. Ground Clearence half inch higher on the 04. Maximum Towing 8800 vs 7800 lbs. Payload Base Capacity 1787 vs 1288 lbs. Transfer Case "Autotrac Active" vs "AWD Electronic Automatic". IMO the larger tank was a good move, but 1000 lbs less towing capacity would hurt. And is the transfer case the same thing, different name or what?
BenKey
The specs came from KBB? Not a very good source, by the way. Maybe three to four months ago I sent them emails about the SS. They didn't show it at all on their website and had never even heard of it, despite the vehicle having been out for months. About four emails later and finally sending them my VIN because they had nothing on it, they finally figured it out, I guess. About a month or so later it was up on the website. It kind of left a bad taste in my mouth about the accuracy of their data. I would go to a GM website to vehicle specs. Although.....
DanY
Are you sure these specs aren't just a mistake on the website? If I'm not mistaken the 34 gallons is the tank size for a standard cab long bed truck. Unless Chevy has made a major change, the short bed extended cab always had a smaller tank. The tow rating also sounds like the number for a non-SS Silverado. I would guess that the drivetrain is the same and the name change is just some sort of marketing gimick. BTW, I just checked Edmunds and they still list the fuel capacity and tow rating as 26 gallons and 7600 lbs.

gbounds
Your probably correct. Sounds like Kelly Blue Book caters to the Common Joe.
Dylan06SS
I've got an '04 and the specs are all identical to '03. I had printed a GM spec sheet on an '03 when had started looking at the SS. The spes for the '04 aren't any different.
