Jim Coher
Does anyone know if the the rear door hinges on the new Silverado's will fit on my 04 SSS ? Apparently they let the doors open 170 degrees. It seems like a pretty good option. Has anyone looked into this?

7a7SS
I found myself thinking about this after seeing the new silverado at the car show. The hinges are one thing, we'll also have to extend and cover our wiring harness. Seven
tehoatim
Definately worth checking into, that would be an awesome upgrade, especially if it could be a DIY mod
StealthSS
I could be wrong, but I think the new doors are completely different-don't the rear windows roll down in the T900 extended cabs? It would be a great mod, but it would probably mean fabricating the hinges.
Jim Coher
I'm going to look at it a little more. The hinges are welded so it won't be easy. I guess it all depends on how much different the doors are. I'll let you know how it goes.
2006SilverSS
I don't remember exactly, but I think the only wiring in the rear doors is the speaker wire. So that part would be really easy to extend.

2006SilverSS
I was at the dealer this past weekend for the heck of it and looked at a couple of the new Silverado's. Looking at the rear doors they are quite different, it would take a good amount of work to have the hinges work on the "classic" style. I'm not saying that it couldn't be done, just not sure that it would be worth it.

CoolBlueSS
MisterP and I were looking at that this weekend at the Dallas Auto Show. The whole set up is completely different. The 07 hinges go inside the pillar, and have a bar that link the two. So, I would not think it impossible, but might be more trouble than it's worth. Maybe someone will make a hinge for the older trucks to do that. Definitely cool.

I think there is so much future demand for a product like this I would be surprised if someone in the aftermarket didn't soon come out with a design for the older EC trucks. Those rear hinges might be cool, but the rear doors on the new EC are *heavy*, you can really feel the weight of the power window regulators & reinforcement. I bet they add a good 100-lbs to the truck. Mr. P. Edited March 19, 2007 by misterp (see edit history)
