Recommended Posts

is acting STRANGE. went with a 200 higher stall converter from the local specialist (he builds conv. for all the aera racers)and it seems to slip then catch then slips again . it is most notisable in 2nd and 3rd.it is making the truck feel odd slips , go ,slip , go, slip , go, slip then shift and start the cycle again. HELP the customer wants his truck back

thanks

You might check to verify the correct type of stall was used. Obviously, the converter has the correct spline count and proper fit, but I thik I read something about the trucks using a different type of lock up mechanism than the cars do. Not 100% sure on that.

Hummm  It will be interesting to see what failed with mine when it comes out. Those are the same symptoms I'm having. But mine ran fine for a couple thousand miles then took a dump. ......................................:wtf:

we pretty well killed a yank before in my buddies camaro after making many runs with the t.c. engaging just after the 1-2 shift. not only that, but the trans shifting with the converter locked in also smoked the 3-4 clutches (until the bps raybestos). you aren't engaging the converter under w.o.t. are you mn?

when it came in it had the whipple charger on it running 5psi boost and the customer wants more power. i g-teched it and ran 14.69 to 14.90 @91 to 92.0 mph.i have added ASM headers , 1/4" smaller blower pully, comp cams (xr265hr i think) 213* 218* duration at .050 , .550" .563" lift and 115 centerline , it degreed in at 114.5 . and springs to go with it. with the heads off we did a little port work :D , 2 cut the valves , 3 angle valve job , radius cut below the seats, pocket port and port match the intake , and port and polish the exhaust. we picked up 23 cfm on the intake and 51 cfm on the exhaust (dont have the sheet with me at home so i dont have the raw #'s)and a diablo programmer.when i got the cam out the cam berrings were showing copper from about the 6 oclock to 10 oclock position on all 5 berrings(.004" clearance)the truck has 11200 miles on it , so i pulled the short block and replaced them. with the engine out thought what a great time to change the tork converter, so it has a 2500 stall converter. now i just have to figure out where to set all the stuff that the diablo can do. the 13.9 run was with +2% fuel -1% spark shift rpm at 5800 and all trans stuff at +12.5%. oh ya its hitting 6.5 psi boost. the denisty altitude here is genrally about 6000 . when we had a local dragstrip the sea level correction was almost 1 full second.

sorry for the long post

I think its normal for the cam bearings to show a little copper. I've read that on the newer engines, GM hones the cam bearings before assembly, thus the appearance of being worn. I think you pulled a perfectly good shortblock. Hope you didn't pull the heads just to do the cam swap.
