got into a accident.

Recommended Posts

well it finally happened. after a 1.5 years of driving i got into a accident tonight. i was leaving the bowling alley and backed into a parked car. i thought i had enough room but i guess i didnt. i hit the side of the van. im so mad. im glad no one was hurt but the van looks bad. its on the side where the door slides open. my trucks F'D up. i scracthed my tinted tails and put a huge dent right next to my roll pan. luckly my dads is my ins. broker and we will try to do our best. i didnt get a citation or anything becuase it was on a private way. the cop couldnt belive his ears whne i told him. i went back inside and told him what happend. and on the way out he said he couldnt belive i came back in. most people would have been gone by now. also a few things that i dont know if they could help me but. i told the officer that she wasnt in a parking spot.(she was in the middle of the driving road) and if she wasnt there there would have been enough room to get out easier. also when she was talking to the officer she said that "o he dindt do this(pointing to some damage)" so when the officer came look at my car i asked if he could put that in the report that she admited to previous damages. he said he would and that i have good ears on picking things up.he said i am at fault and will be put in the report like that. and another thing. when the officer came out after i got him i pointed to my truck and said this was mine. he noticed my thin blue line license plate. asked who my father was. i told him that plate isnt from my father but a very good freind of mine who is on the force in the next town. luckly i guess he knew him becuase he was alot more reasuring to me. i just cant believe i hit a damn parked car. i will have pics of my truck tomorow. ~~~Kyle

Sorry man - happens to the best of us. FWIW you did the right thing. Yeah it sucks, even though the other car was not well-parked you are at fault because you were the vehicle in motion. :( It's only sheet metal dude, as Pimp SS is so fond of saying, that shit'll buff out! I'm sure that your dad will help as best as he can, that is a plus. Tinting a replacement taillight to match is going to be very, very difficult to do unless you can mix the exact same paint formula and lay down the same number of coats, your paint guy is going to have to remember both of these details or else he's just going to have to do it by eye. Or the best thing to do is to get a couple sheets of 1200 paper and wet-sand the taillights back to original red, then buff with fine (grey) scotch-brite pad and re-shoot.

Mr. P.

ps - sand in straight lines - NO circles! sprayed99 helped me re-do my taillights today, it took about 3 man-hours to get them back to red and ready for repainting.

ya thanks guys. im actually glad i didnt have my bumper on. becuase if i did she would have had ALOT more damage. by damage looks a little worse than what i thought. i only saw it at night but i just looked at it and it looks like that panel has some waves in it. im going to see if my tail will buff out, that just looks like scracthes but idk.

sorry to hear about the accident Kyle. could have been alot worse than a backing accident and the damage alot worse. sucks more that you just did all that work to the back of the truck. Mr. P beat me to the punch on your tails. for starters, you bought them already tinted so not knowing what brand of tint or how many coats are on them will make it almost impossible to match. you could get them close, but you will always notice the difference. strip em down and start over. it's not a hard process, just a time consuming one. but as you said, hopefully you can buff them out if they are only scratched up.

as far as that woman, people must be alot nicer on the southshore, cuz up here she would have been claiming that you caused any pre-existing damage to the opposite side and to the front. maybe it was the fact that you went back inside right away and owned up. that catches alot of people off-guard.

Damn Kyle, sorry to hear about the bad news. That is the down side of having a roll pan, it causes a lot more damage. Good luck with the tails as I don't know what to tell you. They were originally done with the spray tint, but than a local bodyshop sanded them down and shot them with a few coats of black paint and clear coat. I would recommed sanding them both down and re-due them at the same time. You should post a pic of them and we will get more of an idea of what shape they are in.

Sorry to hear that Kyle I know how excited you were to get your truck back. I hope you are able to get it fixed as good as new quickly.

:withstupid: i know it sucks because you just got it done. and you did do the right thing by not taking off, imagine how you would feel if it happened to you and no one fessed up?... so i have to give you props on that

my truck was just back into on friday and no one confessed or left any note  good news is there are only a couple of scratchs on my bumper and one on my bowtie, i managed to get the black paint/rubber? off with some elbow grease.. still sucks though.

try not to feel to bad it happens all the time, everyone makes mistakes.

i hope your truck gets well soon...

Kyle, didnt' you say you had an extra set of tails?

yep i still have a set.(my stocks) so i might have them done. i just wanted a stock set in case the cops said anything to me. theres only one area on the light that might be a problem. other than that it looks like it will buff off,(hopefully) also when it happend, the thought of leaving crossed my mind for a second. but then went away so fast. i just thougth about what if someone hit my truck. i would want them to fess up. my dad said "that took alot of balls to do that, most people would be gone" the damage on my truck doesnt really match up to whats on her van. so hopefully ins sees that and clears me from some of it. but i also believe in kharma so hopefully it works out for the best.

Trust me, you will do a couple more fender-benders in your life - we all do, shit happens; don't beat yourself up about it, nobody got hurt and it's just some body work. Just make sure you're insured and that you pay for your mistakes and you'll be golden

Mr. P. :)
