04CHASE
anyone see that toshiba has officially pulled the plug on its hd dvd players? also a few big names have converted to from producung hd dvd's to blue ray now? ive been wanting one of the two but was wating for the right time, but i still wont buy until i find a changer that will play regular dvd's as well. i know porn was one of the big things that kept hd dvd going but i wonder how long it will last. lets hear some thoughts. KJT13
a couple of friends of mine said that it was gonna shift in that direction and looks like they were right. I've held out on buying one until it was settled. didn't wanna make the Betamax mistake and the dual HD dvd/Blu-Ray players are way to expensive. Bonj87
blue ray is backed by microsoft so it gets my vote cuz microsoft is a huge company actually HD was backed by MS, its why the xbox 360 didnt have a blue ray player in it and the PS3 did.. but i bet they come out with a blue ray add on now
usabodyguard
I have been researching flat screen Tv's so I can cash in on this argument, Blueray is getting the nod from a lot of picture studios, and from what i have heard HD Dvd is on its final leg... Im going with Blu Ray, and I wonder why microsoft is backing Blu ray when they only make an HD DVD unit for the 360? From several reviews, cnet and others, the best value in a new BR player is a gaming console, PS3! BluRay FTW
kelleyperformance
since about a year ago, right when these were released, i only watch hd dvds and blu rays. i have the hd dvd player xbox add on, and a pioneer blu ray player, as well as a ps3. i prefer the blu ray, hands down..... IMO id just get a blu ray player; they have already dropped half the ammount since i bought mine lol
evallejo
I got a PS3, so Blu Ray FTW.
misterp
... the best value in a new BR player is a gaming console, PS3!... That's why the PS3's have been selling like hotcakes these last few months - costs nearly the same as a Blu Ray player, but with the game console "thrown in for free". We watched Planet Earth on a PS3 at Christmas, and I will have to admit it was very, very nice - Sony's got their act together on this one. I think that is the trend now, that all "entertainment" is going to come from one box - a console that plays movies as well as games, I am sure we'll see these become consolodated in coming years. Microsoft announced yesterday it is switching the 360's to BluRay; knowing how Microsoft operates I'm sure they had a plan for this outcome, just in case. Yup I agree, HD DVD = Betamax - it's dead. Those several million people that bought not only the set-top boxes but also the PC drives have just taken a bath on them. Porn operators I am sure will bail on the HD DVD format - R.I.P. HD DVD. madmax
about two/three years ago when these two formats first went head to head bill gates said that the future of all media had already been determined as hd dvd. what a chump! diggerdan11
Im kind of angry i went with HD because i bought the player for my xbox 360, looks like i chose poorly. Oh well i will continue to buy HD movies until i cant anymore and then try to find a combo player for a good price. I just saw one at best buy for $350 yikes
zanis520
one of the reasons is because HD DVDs dont have as much space as blu rays have so u can fit a bunch more things on blu ray. as for porn, i actually read an article about 3 weeks ago, and Digital Playground signed to go exclusively with Blu Ray and the writer of the article was saying that is what was going to really push the market towards Blu Ray, most of the porn is going to follow and then its a matter of time before everything else does, and sure enough its happening. it also happened with DVDs and Laser Discs, porn chose DVDs even though laser discs were better quality and dvds came out on top. ThePDB
I have both Blu Ray and HD DVD. I like them both. Honestly, I'm suprised one actually won over the other. I really thought with all the movies and options available they would both be out. Obviously when movie companies shifted towards Blu Ray, it didn't leave HD DVD with many options. Even selling the players for 1/4 of the cost of Blu Ray didn't make much difference. I paid 400 for my Blu Ray player, and got the HD DVD player for 120.00. Honestly, if anyone is in the market for just a decent upconvert dvd player for standard dvds I'd buy one of these while they last. I've had a couple unconvert dvd players, but none have upconverted picture as well as the Blu Ray and HD DVD player. Besides, you get 5 free HD DVD movies. What really sucks is deciding AFTER I bought the Blu Ray player that I wanted PS3 too!
