TheGeorgiaKid
How hard would it be to convert a '03 AWD SS to a 2WD? Take out the transfer case & complete front diff, put on a different tailshaft housing on the trans, modify the driveshaft or change it, & put on 2WD front hubs? Thanks. smit
Why would you want to do this?
TheGeorgiaKid
I have a buddy wanting a SS, but doesn't like AWD & doesn't want to spend for a '05 or '06 2WD. He wanted to know if it could be done & I said I didn't see why it couldn't, but that I would ask.
IndySilveradoSS
I would think th electronics for the tranny and diff would be a bitch to change out. Why not get a 2wd truck, and add ss trim, probably be a little cheaper
ItsJac
Do a search on this forum, There was a memeber named TurbochargedBerserker Who did the change out. He dont come on here much but look through his old treads. Its wont be to bad, Need a 2wd tail output shaft and a new drive shaft. I dont think you have to mess with the electronics. There no electronics on the front diff or transfer case. I looking to do something similar on my Denali... oscareltemblo
I believe there is more demand for allwheell drive trucks then 2wd he should just sell and buy a 2wd.

zippy
It's not very difficult since the 2wd's are built on the AWD chassis. Some changes to the trans, front wheel bearings, remove the front diff and transfercase, etc. Not too bad.
