ztorss Posted September 21, 2008 Report Posted September 21, 2008 well i work at best buy. are you sure the tuning program is going to be compatible with vista? but i would go with HP or dell. Quote
Reese Byerrum Posted September 21, 2008 Report Posted September 21, 2008 I am not sure if the tuning programs work on a Mac. But I just bought a macbook pro and i love it. I will never go back to PC. So many great features and the hardware in it is amazing. Quote
ShortBus Posted September 21, 2008 Report Posted September 21, 2008 vista is compatible with tuning programs. spend 700 bucks or less to get something that fits your needs. Quote
SSThunder Posted September 21, 2008 Report Posted September 21, 2008 i've had my toshiba for ever and it works great. they are a pretty good cheap brand IMO. Dell and HP are also good. Buddy has a new Dell with Vista and has had to take it in a few times. Vista looks like a PITA to me. I'll stick with XP till I get a new PC or Laptop. Quote
detjoe Posted September 21, 2008 Report Posted September 21, 2008 officemax or what ever its called was selling reman'd Lattitudes fro $399. I hit the local fourms and ask if anyone has a good tuning laptop and usually I can find them for $200. I have not have the funds to replace my laptop and its a PITA! good luck Quote
ItsJac Posted September 21, 2008 Report Posted September 21, 2008 (edited) I picked this up about 3 weeks ago for 899 plus hp was having a rebate of 50 bucks. Its a decent computer for the price. 17" screen, 4gb ram, 250gb hard drive, dvd burner, plus full keyboard. Im really happy with it. really didnt like vista but decided to give it a try. The bad part about vista it requires alot of space on the hard drive. PLUS porn looks better on a bigger screen...LOL http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?sk...d=1210379318796 If you looking for a basic computer look today at the circuit city or best buy ad's and see what they have on special. they usally have one or two computer for under 500. usally a decent computer. Rausche Posted September 21, 2008 Report Posted September 21, 2008 I would recommend HP over dell. HP's build quality (the materials used in the casing, the screen, keyboard, etc) seems to be much higher than that of Dell's. How about something like this: HP Compaq 6535b Notebook That can be easily customized to meet all your criteria listed above Quote
mcmahan Posted September 21, 2008 Report Posted September 21, 2008 dood my only computer is a dell laptop, its old but it still works ok a few bugs in it. but i use it for work military documents ect.. i like dell imo.. Quote
kweber1911 Posted September 22, 2008 Report Posted September 22, 2008 well...i would stick with dell or hp. they are both decent. as far as 1 gig of memory....i would throw at least 2 in there. with the 2 gigs of memory you will be able to run your programs better and faster. also if it is a vista computer, vista is slow with only 1gb of memory. just my .02 Quote
Krambo Posted September 22, 2008 Report Posted September 22, 2008 Chase, if it is going to be a dedicated laptop for tuning and porn, I would focus on the pure basics (what is required to run the tuning software) For HPTuners: Minimum Requirements: Windows 98SE or Better 400 MHz PC or Laptop 128 MB of RAM USB Port Recommended Requirements: Windows 2000/XP or Better 800 MHz PC or Laptop 256 MB of RAM Nice to have's: 1. Multiple USB ports (pay attention to where the ports are located. I found that having the ports on the side of the laptop is better than the rear). 2. Big monitor. 3. LIGHT WEIGHT with extended batery life. It may sound cheap however, I would put the $$$ into something else (if it is only a dedicated tuning laptop). You can EASILY spend $2k on a laptop if you want all of the bells and whistles. I have been eyie'n up an ACER laptop for $499 at Circuit City for my needs. I am using an old refurbished Dell that sometimes the touch pad mouse works and sometimes it doesn't...very annoying! Quote
Rausche Posted September 22, 2008 Report Posted September 22, 2008 (edited) If you're really looking for just a tuning laptop, take a look at what I have on the way to me right now: Asus Eee PC 1000 40GB, Runs on linux (very very easy to put XP on to though), 7.5 hours of battery life, built in wireless, built in bluetooth (for roadrunner ) EDIT: Found the same product with windows preinstalled ($480): http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16834220431 Edited September 22, 2008 by Rausche (see edit history) Quote
zbishop80 Posted September 22, 2008 Report Posted September 22, 2008 I'd stick with a mid level HP. They are built well and can be customized for any need. I also agree with the above post about the Acer laptops. They are not a huge company but they build a decent product. Of course if it were me I'd go with a MAC just because the comparison to a PC is not existant. MACs are a far better computer, the only snag is finding tuning software that is MAC compatible. As for VISTA, its crap, if at all possible try to find somewhere that will roll back the Operating System to XP. Although I dont think there are many places that will do it now that XP is at its end of life. If VISTA is your only option then so be it but I would avoid it at all costs. Just my 2 pennies worth. BILLS04SS Posted September 22, 2008 Report Posted September 22, 2008 I have been doing computer work over 20 years and before I would recommend a particular HPllaptop (as I do recommend), I would need to understand how and what you plan on using a new laptop for. If you are using it for Photoshop work and tuning, I would recommend a higher performing processor with at least 2 gigs of RAM and at least a 7200 rpm hard drive. A few known details would help.
