ANGRYGREG
04 ss silverado, here are my dyno results from before my last tune. i was running a 3.1 pulley on an intercooled maggie...here are the changes i made before retune. 1. 2.8 pulley (instead of 3.1) 2. deleted cat converters 3. installed Alky control meth kit 4. new plugs and wires All the things should have helped me out with horsepower. When i went to get retuned on an AWD Dyno Pac by the same tuner with these new mods i was making 100 less horsepower than before WTF. my tuner was getting a misfire code on cylinder #5 and the torQue converter wouldn't lock up at WOT even when he commanded it to. i was on the dyno for six hours. he couldn't get it running right. The next day i went to my transmission guy and he pluged in some tool to the computer, he says my torque converter is fine (my trans is a fully built 4l65 billet shaft billet servos, then i went back to my mechanic and he put his GM scan tool on the truck and confirmed that the torque converter is fine. he also ran a compression test and results the motor is fine. we swapped the plug wire from cylinder #5 to another cylinder and it turns out that the misfire was from a bad plug wire...........we replaced it. we took care of the plug wire. my Question is could a misfire on one cylinder be robbing me of 100 horsepower. the belt is not slipping, its making consistent boost, the fuel injectors have more than enough room to dump more fuel in so its not my AFR. I am so upset and frusturated. to spend all this money on things to get more power and get results like this. Should i take it back to tune again now that the misfire is taken care of...I would like to get another tuner but there are not any AWD dynos around here that fit my truck. Can some one please tell me WTF i should do next...thanks for your help...attached are my dyno results from before new mods and tune
04CHASE
a log of the run before and after the mods would help alot. there are a few things that could be wrong, what is the boost level before and after? should be about a 2-3 psi difference. Solved the problem the other night. i was racing my wife on the street and blew my engine. going today to give half down on a 418 ci stroker kit from superior automotive. im really exited but its gonna put me in the poor house lol. i let the wrong people put their hands on my truck....thanks for your help chase. sorry to call you so late but when i blew my engine i just was flipping out. thanks again...... Krambo
Huh, must have missed this thread. Anyway, if you have a misfire detected your converter will not lock. A way around it would have been to delete the misfire code in your tune file. I could see a 100HP low by not having your converter locked, most likely PIG RICH from the meth injection (untuned), a cylinder down from a misfire, most likely some KR from the misfiring (added boost without adjusting the tune)....the list goes on. So any reason you blew up? Did you investigate yet? Keep us posted on your new build! I know when I had misfires on my maggied powered SS, it made a huge difference when I got the problem fixed. The SOTP gains were very noticable so I can only imagine how much HP I picked up just from the truck running like it should.

Krambo
Ahh those good O'l back cylinders (#8). Good luck with the new build! One question, why are your valve covers on opposite sides?
ANGRYGREG
Ahh those good O'l back cylinders (#8). Good luck with the new build! One question, why are your valve covers on opposite sides? not sure if they are on the wrong side but at this point i think they had taken everything apart and they are not reusing anything. the new heads will be ported and polished new cam new everything. they have a machine shop in house and an engine dyno. this place is bad ass superiorautomotive.com. now i got a question for you. they told me that my blower (maggie) won't make much boost on top of a stroker which is fine because the engine is going to be making so much power... how much boost will it make in your opinion? they said maybe 3 pounds..magnuson says 2.8 is the smallest pulley i can put on.... can't really afford a bigger blower that would make more boost...i know my truck is in good hands. wish i could do the work myself but i'm a flooring contractor not a mechanic.... dcairns
Interesting shop that you have the SS at. Looks like a yellow 60's Mustang back there, some other yellow exotic car, a black 60's car and your black SS. Do they keep the same colored cars together on purpose in that shop Oh, I am up to about 70,000 miles on my Magnacharger. I guess I am having a bit better luck than you ;) Edited November 4, 2008 by dcairns (see edit history)

I bet you dont drive lie a kid either
zippy
With a 2.8" pulley and your altitude I'd guess you'll make around 7psi or so at 6000rpm. That is given no belt slip. Be cautious in the build to keep the compression to 10:1 or higher to compensate for the low boost. The reason the LQ9 is so powerfull with the Radix is from the 10:1 compression.
