Dan at Riverton
I have a 700R4 transmission. I just changed the oil and shortly it would not shift to 3rd or 4th. Could it have a stuck valve in the valve block, a bad solenoid, or some other simple problem? What would it take to fix it?

Dan at Riverton
It is in a 1988 Suburban, approx 100K miles. When it goes to shift to 3rd, it is like it is in neutral. I really don't know about 4th, as it never gets there. It ran fine before the oil and filter change.
zippy
it's a bit odd that it was right after the filter change, but it sure sounds as if the 3-4 clutches have taken a vacation on you. any previous problems with it? is it all stock? Dan at Riverton
Yes it is all stock, and never abused. That is why I thought something must have happened to the hydraulic shifting. Either a stuck valve, or something like that. I have no idea how anything could have gotten into a valve, but it acts like it releases 2nd but does not pick 3rd up. It came on all at once.
