ebomberger
So, for quit some time, my SSS has been making a "humming" noise from what sounds like the front axel or diff. I took it in to have it looked at and to get it fixed. The tech told me that the humming sound was "normal" and that there is nothing they can do to stop it. Is there anyway I can narrow down what is causing the noise and where it is coming from? Give me all the input you guys can come up with. eddieo818
Check the search engine here I've read that alot of the awd trucks have problems with the tranfer case failing.
Fireman31
The front diffs on the SSS have always been problematic. The humming you are hearing is most likely a bad carrier or pinion bearing.........
Nevada79
It may be the axle shaft bearing causing the noise. Jack up the front end and see if there is much play in the axle shaft (inners). If there is excessive play (there should be very little to none) then you have a bearing out. Good luck.
