WheeliePro
I'm looking into going the opposite way of most of the people on this site. I want to put bigger tires on my NBS Vortec Max. I have heard that this puts a lot of added stress on the transmission, but I was unable to find out how or why. I imagine it is just due to the extra weight. Does anyone have any experience putting bigger tires on trucks? Did anything get screwed up? Anyway to prevent problems? Thanks!
Punisher
More rotating weight is more strenuous on transmissions and differential assembly. Unless you put tractor tires on it, I doubt you will see any more wear than usual. Just keep up with your basic maintenance. I had bigger wheels on my SS and the only toll it took was my wheel bearings. Which you will most likely see.
elcompalaline
I had 24 inch wheels on my 04 and that thing definitely took a beating, snapped a bar or something on the rear diff. Luckily it was still under warranty, just had to put my stocks on when it went in for service. Depending on how big you go, you might have to reprogram the trucks computer to compensate for the difference in size for an accurate speedometer. chpspecial
If you are going to do bigger tires... help out your drive train by also doing gears, go lower... it help out with the negative effects of bigger wheels
