57 Bel Air Two Door Sedan Build

Well I cleaned up the inner quarter panel area, wire wheeled down to bare metal but I left some of the original undercoating that seemed to be in good shape still. Then I painted the POR 15 all around inside the inner quarter area to seal it from rusting ever again. I'm still waiting on the inner tail panel/tail fin piece to replace the badly damaged one on my car. You can see I didn't paint or clean that part as it will be removed. Here's some pics:

MAJOR UPDATE!!! :)

The passenger side quarter panel is installed!!! I've just been smamped with projects lately and the 57 had been on the back burner for a while so tonight I decided to just go for it and an afternoon and night of work turned into a great install on the quarter panel. Heres the pics! Enjoy.

Top seam came out very nice.

In this picture you can see where I had to section the front corner due to the differences between the hardtop quarter panel and the post quarter panel. Overall it came out pretty good but it needs a bit of body work in that area to make it right.

There is a large pipe that goes between the two stands that you can see to the left.

We rolled the chassis out shortly after this pic, had to take the rear tires off and roll it out on the jack...

Another awesome score was I bought myself a new stainless side trim set for the car the Ecklers on one of there 20% off sales so I couldn't pass it up.

Well I decided it was time to test the rotisseries ability to do what its suppose to do and it worked! One snag was that the car runs into the center connection pipe piece. I could modify it again but it seems to work okay as is. Anyways I'm super excited!

Decided to sand blast the entire underside of the car, the firewall, inside the trunk and the window channels! It was a huge project but the pressure pot sand blaster got it done. The paint booth turned into a beach by the time I was done. Blasted on it for hours and got it pretty nice. Here's some pics

Got some more done on the car! After many many hours of cleaning sand out of the rocker panels and such I finally was able to get some primer sprayed over the nicely sand blasted metal under the car. Next I will start on the body work on the quarters and prep the body for paint. :)

Man this car would be cool if it was 1 year older. :dbanana:

Great job. It's coming along nicely. Big steps but it seems to take forever doesn't it? Nice work. I'm still cracking along on my 56. Its got me crazy excited but still slow going. I talked to the Turbo guys down here about my twin set up. They said 800 HP pretty easy. :peelout:

Keep up the good work.

Doug

Well big update and sort of a jump in the process, I know I missed posting some steps over here, but check out the full build thread on Trifive.com pepsicheer.gif

Saturday evening we got everything in the final sanding stages and decided to start painting. Ended up staying up until about 4:45am painting. The color I choose is a GM color called Dark Spiral Grey Metallic. Its a pretty cool color I think and will really look good on the car once all the trim is installed. Anyways here's some pictures. The quarter panels have been wet sanded and buffed (except for the center section where the trim goes) and the roof is going to be wet sanded and buffed today. Its hard to see in the pictures what the aculey color looks like because of refelctions and such. The roof shots show the color best. Anyways enjoy!
