wish i had pics I did same, i cut a rectangular hole in my drywall for the rear bumper to literally back into. So i backed inside my garage wall, this was in my old house, I said same thing to myself too "what we do for our trucks"

notch the metal in the garage door to ensure clearance.

 

I was seriously considering doing that, but it's a hurricane rated door and I live in Florida so, well, you know. Didn't want to go there.

 

I did the same thing except took a sawzall and knotched the studs in my wall...

 

I also had to notch my studs, 1".
