EXGM
thanks for the input. if I go through the trouble to take it apart im no doubt replacing upper and lower, don't care if only one is bad. im already in there im not only gonna do one then have the other go out a month later. I believe if your savvy with a volt meter you can check resistance of the element and make sure it's bad before you tear it apart Edited December 31, 2015 by EXGM (see edit history)
dieseltech320
yea just unsure of what plug goes to what under the seat?? its been over a year since I looked into diagnosing it, so its not fresh on my mind. I just remember it got confusing under the seat trying to figure out what was what
EXGM
Yeah I hear ya. One of these days I will break down and buy the service manual. I always get them for what I have. The set for the c/k trucks is EXPENSIVE!

eberhama
The heated elements have green plugs, pretty easy to spot. The bottom seat bun comes off fairly easy, even when the seat is bolted in the truck. Its likewise pretty easy to throw in a lower element. The upper is kind of a bastard(especially if you haven't messed with seats before). Don't replace that one unless you have too. The under seat plugs are pretty easy to figure out, but the plugs for the front/back up/down motors are the same and can be swapped. So if you get it back together, and the adjustment switches do something totally different than what they're supposed to, that's what went wrong.
