  1. Every jurisdiction is different. You'd better check your local laws before doing anything. Think about standing before a judge saying "well these guys on SilveradoSS.com said I could _______________" . At the very least call the local PD and put a watch order on the house. That's where they drive past at least once a shift. Maybe you'll get lucky?
  2. I'd like to see the statute that addresses the thin blue line... 'Cause I don't think there is one. I'm pretty sure he's not allowed to toss the vehicle without owner's consent either. I would forget calling the barracks. Put a call into internal affairs instead. FYI - if you're in the clear and they ask to toss your vehicle make sure a shift commander is present while the tossing occurs. If he's going to pull you over for B.S. then other shennanigans aren't out of the question either. As someone with Florida plates who's driven I-95 between Jacksonville and Virginia, I can tell you this is how you want to do it. 50% of the time said brown round wearing individual will forget all about the search or, the supervisor will show up and put a stop to it. Now, before you tell me how much of a cop hater I am, let me tell you, I work for them and have for long enough to know. Most of 'em are great, it's just the 1% that you have to watch out for. I have talked to enough of the 1% while their guard was down to be concerned.
  3. I'm not making this up..... I clicked the link and played this trash it for five seconds and my Black Lab, Shelby, started whining and shortly thereafter began howling. She's a music critic from way back. She howls at the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Too funny....
  4. I never wanted red vehicles until I got this truck. Now I'm obsessed with Victory Red. I'd like mine short cabbed, Victory Red, with a six speed, puhlease..... I also add that a cowl induction hood would be classier than ram air. I don't care if it won't carry more than one passenger. It's not yellow with black checker stripes. I do hope someone from GM is reading this..... I could have depo$it tomorrow.....
  5. It's probably coming from your power source, not the antenna. If the static goes away with the engine off, your noise is from the engine. The signal coming in is digital, digital doesn't do static, it does audio distortion noises with signal problems. Check your grounds.
  6. I know lots of people love 'em, but I think those chrome plated chicken wire grilles suck. The wing and doors are gawd awful. When you start messing with a Corvette, you'd better hope someone else shares your vision of beauty, otherwise you're stuck with it. I had a Greenwood wing on mine, I liked it, but the next owner removed it.
  7. Check out www.newegg.com for the best prices. They actually search multiple vendors for the same item. So far, they've been pretty good to me on electronics.
  8. Thanks for the feedback so far. I guess there's no love for chrome under the hood anymore? I looked at the paint-to-match pieces and am considering that. If I can't get metalic, I'll probably go with carbon fiber. The paint to match factory pieces are nice, but that's allot of work to smooth them. Plus I'm trying to preserve the stock pieces. It looks like CF or, painted is about all there is.
  9. Does anyone know if there is a chrome engine dress up kit for the SSS? I am also considering a carbon fiber set up. Any leads or opinions would be great. Thanks!
  10. We've discussed this a few time here. Did you re-use the XM antenna for the Sirius? It does work.
  11. I forwarded that to my folks, God love 'em, they're both yuppies. To think they parked me infront of the color TV to watch that soddom and gammorah. I agree kids today are way too over protected. It's defeating natural selection. We'll regret this in a few years.....
  12. Good deal. Buying or renting? If buying, may the foce be with you at homeowner's insurance time. Moving a woman in=Twice the cleaning... This ain't your poppa's version of shacking up anymore. Know what I mean? There's nothing like sitting on the couch in your drawers sippin' a beer.....
  13. Radar detectors may be okay for highway use, but on backroads, you're probably going to get hit by laser and there's nothing you can do for that. I find being in the right lane as much as possible and hiding behind 18 wheelers when going up hill to be much more effective. I like to run the road with e-bay X band radar gun turned on and watch the brake lights...
  14. I don't mean to sound like a smart ass, but you're not happy with your brakes? I have just about the same truck as yours and one of things I rate high on the truck are the brakes. My last truck was a 99 Tahoe, which runs neck and neck with 88 K2500 for worst truck brakes ever. I may just have low expectations. I did swap out to SS lines on an 86 Corvette Roadster. Shortly afterwards, thanks to the extra pedal pressure, I replaced calipers and master cylinder. Suddenly everything leaked. You may want to upgrade your brake fluid before you do a whole lot. I found using the Motorcraft DOT 4 fluid made a noticible difference. In Corvette circles, Motorcraft brake fluid is revered enough to be sold by Eckler's.
  15. Actually, it's Haggerty's. They're a real pain in the ass to deal with. They quoted me dirt cheap insurance for my 1930 Model A, but the conditions were killer. I couldn't drive it to anything but an antique car event and it had to be in a locked garage. I went with my usual carrier for agreed on value and only spent a little more each month. Now I can go out and putter around in the Model A at will. I looked at them for a loan for the 1962 Corvette and they wanted an appraisal. I'm going to get a car appraised, so the owner can see what it's really worth? Nah, don't think so. Haggerty's is a well off company because they assume zero risk.
  16. I have Eastern Financial Credit Union. I recently called to inquire about getting a loan on a 62 Vette and they didn't bat an eyelash.
  17. Well, if nothing else, ya got the Dolphins/Eagles right....
  18. I don't know about Palm Beach, but Miami-Dade Police are in a consant hiring binge. The FHP is also hiring, but you could get assigned anywhere in Florida. Being out of state probably won't be a problem. Obviously you're not certified in Florida. You're going to need to take the TABE exam and probably the FBAT no matter where you apply in Florida. You can take these exams on your own. I know Miami-Dade College North Campus routinely offers both exams. Often in the same day. Be prepared for up to six months between applying and going to the academy. I'm a "civilian" police employee and it took them 90 days to do my background investigation. You might want to seek temporary employment in the meantime.
  19. About the GM Rep, I'll quote Sherriff Buford T. Justice: "Boy, when I get home I'm gonna slap your Momma, 'cause there's no way you're the fruit of my loins" Ain't no way a BMW customer is going to stoop past a Caddy to a Pontiac. It's a much shorter putt for them to sell muscle cars. Anyone remember that old slogan "We Build Excitement"? If someone from the General is snooping here, no kidding, I'll slap down a deposit on the 2011 T/A this second. "I'm going to need a fast car.... Faster than that....."
  20. I paid $27.5 for my 05 back in July. It had 22k miles on it. It's under warranty. I bought it from Kendall Chevrolet here in Miami. I probably got whacked, but, in all fairness, they did give me $5k for my 99 2 door 2wd Tahoe with over 100k miles on it. Mine has every concievable option. I went in for an AC blower switch for the Tahoe and left with the Silverado SS. That was probably not the smartest thing to do. My point is, weigh the condition and the options and for God's sake don't go by the parts counter first! If you search my profile, I recently posted a photo (of the truck). There's alot to be said for an unmolested vehicle, so you can molest it your way.
  21. If you want to go drag racing, Moroso is pretty much it. Our 1/8 mile here is on again off again. The deal at the Festival is in Pompano, which I guess is close to Coconut Creek. It's December 2nd. You'll want to pre-register. http://www.cruisinsouthflorida.com/2007/1E...02.Festival.htm We missed Super Chevy Weekend two weeks ago. That white stuff that comes out of the sky, if you're north of Jax, is going to be coming down soon. It's not out of the question to attract some Silverado SS Snowbirds. January/February would proabably be best. Too much stuff going on in December. January and February are still wide open on the Moroso calendar. Keep in touch. Provided it doesn't conflict with a Corvette or Antique Car Show, I'll be there.
  22. There's a show this weekend at the Mardi Gras Racetrack and Casino (Pebroke Rd. & US-1). It's open to all years, etc. I will be there with my Red 05 SSS. There's also the Renegade Corvette Club Car Show at Ed Morse Sawgrass in January. There's another one coming up at the Festival Flea Market. Frankly, I think we should all get together one Saturday and terrorize Alabama Jack's on Card Sound Road. http://www.cruisinsouthflorida.com/
  23. I did mine with Mother's California Gold Carnuba. We had the first cool snap this weekend, so I waxed down the truck. It's a pain in the butt to put on, but it's worth it. Later on when I get home, I'll post some photos of the truck afterwards. The Carnuba is beautiful for a month. It protects longer, but after a month, you'll want to do it again. The finish looks great and feels amazing. I think my truck is faster afterwards. The better half did her Corvette with that new Ice stuff. I thought it came out pretty good. It's hard to compare a white vehicle with older paint to two year old red. The only downside is I can really see that legendary GM orangepeel now. Consider using a claybar. Whatever you do, buff by hand. Don't let anyone touch your ride with a machine buffer. Period!
  24. I know this may sound sacreligous, but, I'm getting the Challenger, assuming it ever comes out. I like Challenger's styling better than Camaro's. I think MoPar did a better job with the back end and the nose too. I don't think the Camaro is long enough. It might be dimesionally long, but visually, it looks stubby to me. If Challenger doesn't come to fruition, the Camaro would be second. Before I dropped $30k on a new Camaro, I'd be looking at C3 big blocks instead. I still have a GM majority at home though. -86 K-5 Blazer (CUCV) -77 Corvette -30 Model A Tudor (Ford)
