  1. Keep looking. When the right dog comes along, it'll all come together. My black lab, Shelby, was the second black lab puppy I encountered in one week in July of 2003. The first one, a runaway found in the neighborhood, had his folks show up, so off he went. A friend in a vet's office called a few days later to tell us about a "leftover" lab one of their clients (a breeder) had. So for the princely sum of $100.00 (papers were extra) I picked up my leftover lab and have laughed at least once a day ever since. Your story choked me up, until Shelby came up and nudged the laptop with her snout...
  2. I've got the time off, it's early enough in Hurricane season for me to go. If the better half can go, I plan to do it. I think the SSS will make an awesome touring truck.
  3. You ought to try being a Dolfan... I have come to expect a certain level of inteptitude from the Dolphin organization, but this year is just inexcusable. Let's draft a punt returner, even though we have an awesome one already, pass on the talented young QB and, pick up an old fart QB who suffered a concussion. Because we didn't learn with the whole Culpepper thing, but, maybe that was our fault anyway. I could go on, for hours, but what's the point? WANTED: One football team owner with a clue.
  4. Make up a flyer, call your Snap On dealer and see if he'll post it on the truck, as a consignment situation, you might have to slide him a comission, but it'd fetch a little more on the truck.
  5. I happen to like a little chrome tastefully added. I have a billet grill, shopman SS bowtie and, the GM chrome door handles. I got my door handles from gmpartsdirect.com. They're color matched, with just the actual handle chromed. They fit like a dream and came with excellent instructions. I agree the chrome fuel door is stupid. If the thing actually worked like it looks, it'd be another story, but not the way they're done. I am probably done adding shiny stuff to my truck's outside. I have the chrome wheels, I think the satin SS logos don't make a whole lot of sense with polished wheels, if someone knew a good source for polished SS logos, I'd be grateful. If I had a black SS, I might be singing another tune, but with Victory Red the chrome, in moderation, is sharp.
  6. My desk looks like everyone else's. The cool stuff is classified, so I ain't taking pictures. I will post a photo of my work truck.
  7. You could upgrade to an Optima Battery, which would give you top posts too. Let the truck utilize the side terminals and then put your extras on the top post.
  8. Too bad you're not in Florida, I'd buy that thing off of you. That's exactly the hood I want and the right color too.
  9. I think the new F-Superduty is uggggllleeeee. The high end ones aren't so bad, but the baseline models with all the black plastic in the grille and lights is awful looking. The nice thing, if you pop the hood, the front bumper has a nice place to stand. There's no upper radiator support so if you get into a front ender, the radiator, trans cooler and ac condenser are gone. The inside is a la Tonka. There's nowhere to stuff a mobile two way radio under the dash (not that this is a big factor for many people). The upside is the integrated brake controller and built in accessory switches on the dashboard for your add on electrical goodies. Ford like everyone else nowadays is sticking the back three quarters of the engine under the dashboard. Which I guess makes for a shorter hood, but longer dash. I'm not sure why automakers are going this route. It's harder to work on the engine and, the truck doesn't get any shorter.
  10. I'll pick it up. For anyone else interested in buying it the best price I found was amazon.com or, Borders it's $12 there. Autozone wants $19.
  11. LED's draw less amperage, don't get as hot and, last longer. They are typically brighter.
  12. You are not mistaken. It was one of three roles he played in that film.
  13. Nein, it is a picture of Dr. Strangelove. One of my all time favorite movies.
  14. I just got my copy of Hot Rod this month. They're doing a series on how to get more out of the LQ9 engine. It's a good read, if you're new to this. So far they've done bolt on stuff and gotten decent gains. They've tried different things that worked and some things that didn't work. It's nice to see someone try this stuff out and be able to run it on the dyno and get hard numbers instead of the "seat of the pants" estimates. Anyhow, it's a good read.
  15. I like my big red sled... I think red is pretty rare? The only other SSS in Miami, I have seen, have been black so far. It's sharp with chrome wheels too! Ohh and it matches my Snap On tool box too!
  16. Seems like without fail every diesel dummy around here wants to kick the big red dawg. Power Strokes, Cummins and even Duramaxes. They all want a piece of my red truck. What gives? Of course I whack 'em across the snout. I know it's a matter of time before I hit the big one that won't drop.
  17. Ya know, I thought about that. That's why I didn't pitch the XM rxcvr in case they decomission the Sirius network someday. The thing is I had an account with Sirius, which I hadn't used for a month since I got the truck. I used to have XM, but it sucked. I'd feel more confident about the so called merger if I went to either of the corporate websites and saw something more about it. I think it could be longer than the end of the year. I'm just impatient, I guess? Either way, I don't think I lost out on anything by doing it, except for the money on the Sirius rxcvr. To get the better programing until the "merger" takes place is worth it to me.
  18. John Q. Law will write you a nice little ticket for that one. Blue lights are for cops only. They're very protective about that.
  19. I did a search here and read up on the Sirius/XM conversion. There was quite a bit of good information here. I picked up the GM compatible tuner from Best Buy and put it in. It's an easy job and if you're of the mind to do it, don't hesitate. I even got one month free out of the deal. The posts here were spot on, with one exception. Everyone thought the radio display would still indicate "XM" instead of "Sirius". This has changed. My Bose unit now says "SR" when selecting up the Sat. radio. I also used my XM antenna that came with the truck, also gathered from this forum. Don't bother sticking the mag mount on and running the cable. So far the XM antenna is working well. XM has two satelittes versus Sirius' three (or more), not to mention your rxcvr is a passive device so no harm will come from using another antenna.
  20. Kellyperformance: What does the General's warranty people think of having the limiter disabled? Andromeda: Isn't the Castle Doctrine wonderful? Mr. Glock likes to ride in the SSS. Gotta love SoFla....
  21. I realize this is way early, but, mark you calendars for January 13th 2008. The event is the Ed Morse Chevrolet 2nd Annual Car & Truck Show. It'd be cool if we could get some SS's out there, maybe do a mini-meet? http://www.cruisinsouthflorida.com/Events.htm See you there...
  22. I just got the Extang Trifecta. It'a three way folding deal. No holes, two clamps with wingnuts to hold it near the front of the bed (6.5' bed). It's got two sping loaded clamps near the tailgate. The unit folds at three joints and has a strap to tie it off in when folded. It wasn't cheap, but I like it. It seems to keep the water out too. Best of all, there's no snaps to break or vinyl to wrestle with. If I want to take it off, fold it in thirds, two wingnuts and it's gone.
  23. Please pardon what may sound like a stupid question, but.... If you don't have a front plate, as we don't in Florida, is there still some sort of license plate modification. The reason I ask is even though I don't have the bracket, I would think there is somewhere for it to mount on the truck. If so, is that what is modded or, is it the plate bracket itself. Thanks!
  24. I've had Corvettes. They're great. The newer the 'Vette the more expensive it is to operate. I just bought my Silverado SS, I'm enjoying it much more than the 'Vettes. I don't ride around with that constant fear of something expensive breaking anymore. To make matters worse I do my own work, so not only was I forking out, I was also swinging the wrench. One thing you'll learn is a good Corvette mechanic is a rarity. If you do find a good Corvette mechanic you'll be paying. If you do the work yourself, you'll come to know why good Corvette mechanics are few and far between. I still have Corvette stupidity and will do it again, someday. I will say this; nobody, and I mean nobody, parties like Corvette people party. If someone wants to trade you Corvette for your SS, they're getting the better deal, if you ask me.
