  1. I set out to drive it easy, but it seems like I end up flailing it for some reason or the other at least once in the ride. With 93 octane costing what it does, it adds a sting to any enjoyment I get. The darn thing is pretty fuel efficient at or under 2k RPM but it's so hard to do...
  2. The dealer probably won't give you a rotor. They'll probably turn the one you have. My truck is under the 3/36 bumper to bumper warranty and pads weren't covered or rotor machining. I'll be curious to see how your transaction goes.
  3. By any chance, do you know if your radio is XM ready? If so Sirius (but not XM) sells a box that plugs right into the factory radio. I think it has to be a Bose radio. It hides in the dash and can be controlled by the radio. It's a much cleaner install.
  4. Do a search on E-Bay for "silverado ss" there's a stock system in Alabama for sale.
  5. Greetings fellow Miamian. Welcome aboard.
  6. My insurance agent told me my premiums had dropped because my credit rating was going up. I also get a multi line discount. Ask your auto insurance agent if they offer a multi line discount. I got $20 a month knocked off my State Farm bill because I bought a $7 a month "hospital income" policy. I have no idea what the heck a hospital income policy is, but it's netting me $13 a month discount. Moral of the story, if you can get the multi line discount, buy the cheapest thing you can to get it.
  7. 'Scuse me while I hijack this thread..... What are the SS emblems made out of? Metal, Plastic?
  8. They screwed the pooch. The hood isn't long enough. The car looks short and wide. The front and rear valance/bumper is awful. The dashboard is more monochromatic dark plastic. Since they have all that wasted space in the front cap, they should have recessed the grille further back. I was hoping for more in the styling department, but I guess not. Oh well, at least the Camaro is still a possibility....
  9. The XM antenna is just for XM. You also have a standard AM/FM mast on your vehicle. Your factory XM reciever is a separate unit behind the glove box. The XM antenna goes there, while the AM/FM mast goes to the back of the radio. You may or may not need a GM antenna plug adaptor.
  10. Get the GM-Sirius adapter, chuck the XM and get the Sirius lifetime for $400.00. You can move it three times, if you change radios. Sirius is way better than XM anyhow.
  11. If you're going to get Torque-D's, you gotta go old school on the tires too. I hear Good Year is making the Eagle GT II's in 20" and 22" now. I think when I eat the current tires off, that's what I'll get.
  12. Now just wait a minute... It's not easy add cables to side post batteries in an effective manner. You can buy the spacer and the long bolt, but in the long run, the spacer is going to compress and things will slip and get loose. You can get aftermarket terminals, but that means hacking up your OEM battery cables, which are far superior to anything out there in the aftermarket. If you hack up the OEM cables, you're asking for water intrusion. Going to the that block you do have a nice bolt you can slip a ring over. Not to mention, the extra inches of wire you save, which is less resistance. If you're really paranoid about it, run a slightly larger gauge of wire. Or get an Optima battery and run your stereo stuff to the unused top post. Hopefully, you're running an equal sized ground wire to the same point where battery negative cable is attached to the vehicle. People never think about grounds and often this is the real cause of "voltage drops".
  13. At least Dodge didn't follow every other truck lately and shorten the hood, while stuffing the engine under the dashboard. It's always a hoot to change the back plugs on those types of vehicles or, even do a head gasket. The bedside tool boxes are a good idea, but they're symptoms of a problem I've been howling about on the new trucks. The bed rails on new trucks are shoulder height on me (I'm 5'11"). There is no way in heck to reach over the sides and get something off the bed floor. I can do it with my '05 SSS, but I don't think that works on the new GMT9K trucks. One of the nice things about having a pick up truck is being able to reach over the side for cargo. I think they're making the trucks narrower and shorter, while preserving the cubic foot capacity of the beds by raising the bedsides. As for styling, it's not bad. I like the raked grille. I think GM styling is lagging but better than Ford or the Tokyo boys, but not as distinctive as Walter P.'s designers. Truth be told I think 2003-06 Chevy trucks were ugly, the look worked on the SSS, but that's about it. The best looking GM trucks were the '84-'87. The '88-'98s being a close second. Dodge finally did the interior some justice. What's the deal with the Mercedes shifter? Would it be too much to ask for a Red or, Blue interior? I'm getting tired of Gray, Black or, Tan. I would love to get another Black truck with Red interior.
  14. For those that could not make it, follow the link to show pictures. Select the "Renegade Show Jan 07" tab. We had a great turn out and a fun show. http://photos.renegadecorvetteclub.com/Gal...Thumbnails.aspx
  15. This weekend, at Ed Morse Sawgrass Automall in Sunrise. Open to all vehicles. Hosted by the Renegade Corvette Club. 40 Non-Corvette prizes. http://www.renegadecorvetteclub.com/Car_Show.html
  16. I didn't know Tamron had that kind of warranty. I'll have to look into it further. I am very happy with the Cannon zoom lense. Admittedly, I don't really read too many internet blogs about camera stuff for some reason. The only regret I have is not getting a little bit more zoom, but that was more of "dollars than sense" issue at the time.
  17. I've had a Tamron, it worked okay for a little while then it crapped out for no reason. Ever since then, I've been buying nothing but Cannon lenses. It's a little more expensive, but worth it. I got a 75-300 ultrasonic from Abes of Maine. It was about twice as much as the Tamron, but if I hadn't bought the Tamron to begin with, well, you can guess... I shot a bunch of stuff at an air show with the Tamron and got almost nothing out of it.
  18. If you go to Chevrolet.com and compare the spy pictures to the concept pictures, fundamentally it's the same. The shifter is "evolved" and the bright chrome accents are missing. So are the body color accents. It is a BS dash in the light of day though. It reminds me some of the Chevettes. This begs the question though, are we seeing the base Camaro? Does this mean there will be a V6? Ack. We'll see how it stacks up against the Challenger...
  19. You can't miss with a Black Lab, period. Just remember with hounds it's a constant competition to see who's more stubborn, you or the dog. Also, chicks dig Labs. If and when you do want a Lab, look for an "English" type lab from a reputable breeder. Too many breeders churn out too tall and too big Labs. The problem is the dog is bigger but the organs don't always support more dog. They're also more prone to have skeletal issues. Read the AKC standard on Labs and you'll see what I'm talking about. Scout and Shelby are pictured below. The lone dog pictured is Shelby. We also have a Mini-Schnauzer, who despite my inital misgivings, I have come to really like.
  20. I did urethane bushings on my 86 Corvette. I was scared the car was going to ride bad. It was totally opposite. That car rode like a Caddy after that project. I'm going to be installing urethane into the 77 Corvette in the next couple of weeks. I can't speak for the SSS but I call it a major improvement in the Corvettes.
  21. I'd rather deal with the mom and pop parts place, but around here there are none and the ones there are don't have what I'm looking for. They also stock cheap parts. I want the good stuff. Even the NAPA down the street here doesn't have squat. I have to go their warehouse ten miles away if I want anything. For example U Joints for a 77 Corvette. The local NAPA didn't have it, barely knew what a U Joint was. Once I got to the NAPA warehouse, I still had go through the book and read off the number for the "Parts Robot" to pull. I don't buy anything from behind the counter at the big box auto parts places. Frankly, if I can put it off, I prefer to order from Rock Auto. Less driving around for me, better selection. Not only do they have the ball joint, but you can have a TRW, Moog or, Cheapo one. Not to mention, I don't have to teach the Parts Robot what a ball joint is. Or tell the Parts Robot that the 77 Corvette only came with a 350/5.7 engine. Dealer part counters are a little better, but oh my are they mighty proud of their parts.
  22. NAPA and others sell an antenna that mounts inside the vehicle and works pretty well. Keep it near the windshield. If you do that, then you can totally eliminate the cowl antenna set up.
  23. Now that you have them, what do you think? I've been eyeing them myself. Obviously, he's none to quick in the shipping department. Do they at least look nice?
