  1. Just did a bunch of work on the timing map and I must say that I'm very excited. I haven't spent much time down in the lower sections of the map where you cruise around in and my economy hasn't been the best. I would say I picked it up substantially judging by the instant economy display cruising at 70 on the freeway and 40 in the city. Can't wait to drive it for a few weeks and see what my average ends up at. 2nd and more importantly, I really worked on the areas of the map where it transitions from off idle to WOT at the launch up through the rest of the run. Krambos advice here has been invaluable! Thanks a million man! Now that I can actually make a run without any knock due to the meth it runs great with the additional timing in those areas. I'm actually quite rich right now (10.8 - 11.0) so hopefully some decent improvements to come there when I lean it out a little. I'm finding that the logging software is actually pretty accurate, at least when comparing improvements in time from run to run. I compared the times of multiple runs to my time slips and though the times I figured out from the software didn't always match the slips 100%, the difference from file to file did; i.e. if one run was a 12.32 and the other was a 12.39, the log files reflected that difference (.07) pretty accurately. Tonight, I went from a dead stop to the point my converter locked up in 3rd and compared those times to yesterday at the track. I dropped .4 tenths just from today's changes and that wasn't the whole run! Weather conditions were similar (92% humidity/65^/29.89 baro). I still have the e-fans to ad as well. So in "theory" I might expect to pick et in the neighborhood of .4.........seems like that never happens for whatever reason though-LOL!. I'm not going to micro analyze this but I'm hopefully optimistic of a time <12.21.........I would love to run an 11.XX!!!! Thanks for all of the help and support guys----great bunch on this site
  2. Cool, that makes a lot of sense. Thanks. I'll post up when we go out again. Planning on the last couple of open weekends prior to Lapeer closing. Crap track, but hooks fine when you're AWD --- have to love these SS's!!!!
  3. True and I wasn't expecting a big increase from it. However, I wasn't expecting to lose .5 and 5 mph from a 20 degree swing in ambient. I guess the temp with the humidity is what killed me. Just surprised because it felt so nice compared to some of that muggy 80+ weather we've had recently. On the previous line, I posted up some info about the IAT's and meth mix. Makes sense about the temp as my friends TVS 1900 combo was way off the mark too. Is there a good link about DA that I can read up on. Never really understood that subject---lol! Thanks. Also, any idea about how much timing. IIRC, you said you could run about 23^ with no detonation, but you weren't making any more power either..........So am I at the point of diminishing returns. I figured if I could suppress that detonation I was getting last year with no meth, I could substantially improve my track times by running more timing. I'm pulled 21.5 through 1st into 2nd and tapered off to 21 throughout the rest of the run.......No sign of knock anywhere.
  4. Some additional info on my setup: It's an AIS kit using a 50/50 mix (-20 Windshield Washer Fluid). He said it would make my air/fuel roughly .5 richer and he was right. I adjust my WOT table to adjust for that. I use HP Tuners. He may have me go to a higher Methanol vs Water concentration, but he wanted to see how we could do with the mix as it is more convenient for a street car and probably cheaper. Last year without the kit, my IAT's would increase in the neighborhood of 52-57^ on a pass. Weather didn't matter as to the IAT increase during a run. My first pass yesterday with twin nozzles (7's), my IAT's increased 40^. 2nd pass I swapped one of the 7's for a 14 that I had and the IAT increase 30^. 3rd and final pass, I swapped in both 7 nozzles (now drilled out with a 1/16" drill bit (per his instructions) and the IAT increased 24^. NOTE: The orifice size of the drilled out nozzle was bigger then the 14 nozzle so I increased the flow quite a bit. He said I had to be careful with the water mix and sizing because if I get to big it will lose power and tend to bog when the kit activates. He said straight methanol would require even bigger nozzles so I'm thinking he is going to have me go to even bigger nozzle sizes and potentially to a higher meth concentration.... For reference sake, my friend had a supercharged setup (TVS1900) and was off about 4 - 4.5 tenths from the May weather). On his log his IAT started at 100 and dropped to 82 by the end of the run. He uses straight Meth (Alky Controls kit).
  5. All I can say is wow! The last time I went to the track, it was mid 40's and my truck went 12.21 at 110. Today was 65 so I thought I would get some decent times. I just added a methanol injection kit to my truck and now I was getting 0 detonation and was able to run 20 degrees of timing up top where as last year I could only get about 19 to 19.5 during the 3rd gear pull! Best the truck ran today was 12.73 at 104.7 ......Pathetic..... When I got home, I looked up the weather conditions for the track and it said 98% humidity, Pressure at 30.06in. It didn't feel like 98% humidity to me, but it has been raining lately so maybe so. I just can't believe my truck is off by 1/2 second especially considering I can now make a pass with more timing and no knock retard. Still more work to do with dialing in the truck (amount of meth sprayed, timing, etc) but is this normal? Are you forced inducted guys seeing this much drop from humidity and a little higher ambient temps? Oh, and the 60's were normal (1.7's) for my truck.
  6. I was wondering the same thing. I'm not sure how they modify those baskets, but if it still has the basket, I could see it getting sucked dry at those power levels. If you cut out the bottom, then the fuel slosh becomes a big issue with that long ass tank! That is why that surge tank seems like such a good idea. I'm curious about those big time..... Going to Ubly this Saturday actually. You're more then welcome to come. Originally, there were supposed to be about a dozen cars, then they started dropping like flies---LOL! Right now, it should be a 10 second supercharged mustang, 12 second Tahoe (looks like an SS) and myself for sure. Possibly 3 or 4 other of the Tahoe's friends too with fast cars/trucks. Let me know if you're interested. I've been procrastinating all year and now I'm thrashing to get my Methanol injection kit and e-fans on before the weekend....I'm going regardless though.
  7. Cool, great info---thanks. Isn't that regearing about 1000 bucks for the parts only? As far as the fuel, would a surge tank be the best bet if you're starting fresh like I am? Thanks Zippy!
  8. Thanks Adam! That is really cool and is appreciated. Very cool that so many on here are willing to help out and basically make a better experience of modding these trucks. I have a mustang that I'm putting together that should run in the high 7's. It is a ton of work and is exciting, but honestly if it wasn't for the ridiculous amount of money I've already spent, I would probably just sell it or make it more of a street car again. While it is still street legal, it really more setup for the track (25.5 cage, etc) so the time I get to actually enjoy it is limited to say the least (and that is with it running--lol). The last time I had it out with a much milder combo, it went 9.20 at 150mph. I should have left it alone at that time........That was 07 and now at 40 years old, I'm busy with business and family and honestly have more fun with the truck. My friends bust my stones for wasting money on it instead of my race car, but I spend so much time in it and it's so much fun (spirited driver), that is why I do it. Your truck is my ideal of a best of both worlds scenario. If that truck can go 10's and still be smooth and daily driven.....it doesn't get much better then that imo! Of course, the adrenaline rush of a 1.2 60 foot is nothing to scoff at either... Nice job, can't wait to see where you end up this year.
  9. Interesting comment about the STR.......I was on the fence about that when I ended up going with the Circle D. It was between Circle D and Yank at the time. I thought PI's had problems with the hubs breaking???? I did run a PI in my mustang back in the day and I loved it......
  10. Why didn't you give Circle D another chance? Was that they tightest they could make it or? My truck (I'm pretty sure) is still flashing over 3000 on the launch (I'll know for sure next weekend) and that is with a wuzzy 155,000 6.0 and radix! When I cruise around at low rpms/low speeds, it wants to rev up around 2000 rpm if you give it moderate gas (not heavy), but decent accel at lower cruise conditions. Hope that makes sense---lol! I'd love to see a video of yours cruising around and then standing on it :-)
  11. Awesome work you guys have done on this combo. What is the deal with Circle D? They couldn't get it tight enough or why did you switch to the Vigilante? I had the same problem with them with my radix. First converter was wayyyyy over 4000. They ended up having to go to a bigger converter housing (they took care of me though), but it still was too loose. Wanted 2800 and got 3200-3300. I just had them tighten it 400 rpm and it still feels too loose. I'm going to the track next weekend so I'll know what it does then but a little unhappy. I told him I really wanted it to stall around 2600 - 2800 max. I'm really worried now because I'm going to be doing a big inch motor and bigger blower probably starting this fall....So you want them that loose (3400) for a combo like his? Or would it do better down in the 2800 range? What 60's were these 11.4X runs? What is the issue with the fuel pressure that is causing the 60's to be off? 3.2 pulley? What boost is that making and how does it compare to Supersub's setup? What do the IAT's get to? Can this setup benefit from that larger intercooler (under blower) that is made by??? I appreciate what you guys are doing. I love the way my truck drives and I daily drive it 365 days a year (30,000+ miles a year). I can hardly imagine what it would feel like with the big cubes and bigger blower!!! Best setup for a SSS indeed! Ok, maybe I'm smoking crack, but could I get something like this setup to work with a 4L65e.........It has billet input and output shafts from RPM transmission along with all of the other mods........Thanks Zippy/Adam!!!!
  12. I couldn't find this. Do you have a link, I must be blind---lol! I kind of like this option more and more for a street vehicle. I haven't heard of this option before. I'm assuming from what I read that it is one pump and will support around 750-800hp. Is that right? I'd like to do a setup like supersub. Since he is at 700 at the wheels, I'm thinking this pump won't be enough.....too bad because it looks like a nice OEM style option (quiet/reliable)...... Chase, have you had any experience with surge tanks? Seems like a pretty good option for a high powered street vehicle. For your setup, it makes sense what you are doing, but I won't be making anywhere near that kind of power. I'm hoping to put together a similar combo to supersub. Thanks.
  13. Nice, very nice. What does the converter flash to? I love your truck man!
  14. [Awesome!!!! Is that leaning on the tune at all or soft? What was the temperature? quote name=stroked out ss' timestamp='1316228495' post='803970] Just a little update with mine. At the track right now and the fastest time so far was 11.482 at 117.85 MPH. This was done on only fuel and the full weight of the truck including interior, bed cover, sound system and dyno matted interior. Ill post one of the vids up as well as the time slip when i get home. Late guys
  15. That would be awesome having another cool option, but I just checked and I can't find anything. Click on the "fuel hat" link for the Silverado. It says no products in this category. Also, if the picture is right, I wouldn't want it anyways. I would want that bucket design so that I'm not uncovering the pickup when I have less then a 1/4 tank (corners, stopping, etc). Was there a different link or something. http://www.livernoismotorsports.com/categories/GM%7B47%7DChevrolet/2003%252d07-Silverado-SS/2003%252d07-Silverado-SS-Fuel-Delivery/
  16. I would like to put together a big inch/TVS 2300 blower combo in the near future. I stumbled across this link today. Anyone try something like this vs. the traditional dual pump setup and did it support good power? Thanks. http://www.leftcoast...uel-system.aspx
  17. Yes, I would rotate tires every 6,000 miles. To be fair, I do drive "somewhat" aggressive but I did with the Kuhmos too. Interesting comment about the shoulder wear. I too experienced premature shoulder wear and thought it was too low of pressure so I upped the pressure from 32 where it was another 5psi IIRC. I wonder if hard cornering can wear out the edges faster? I don't do a lot of cornering other then one off ramp on the way home....... All in all, not a bad tire. Looking at my old post, it may appear like that. I just was expecting more from them. Basically, I'm on track to get 2 years out of them and was probably expecting 3 years based on my current driving..... I'm sure you'll probably be happy with them.
  18. I know this blower (Maggie) is the red headed step child so to speak compared to the TVS series, but any word on the spacer mod for these blowers? Does it help performance at all in a 9psi application (6.0)? Thanks.
  19. It'll LOVE IT!!!! Put the blower on and let r Eat! My truck had 70,000 on it when I bought it and it now has 154,000 miles! Just went 12.20 last fall and hoping to break into the 11's in the next couple of months. As long as your engine is in good mechanical condition now, I wouldn't hesitate to put the blower on. That's just me though----good luck.
  20. I bought a set for my truck in December of 2009. I did a bunch of research and everyone raved about these. Based off those reviews, I bought them. I'm not that happy with them to be honest. They have almost 29,000 on them and are at @25% tread left. I won't run any tire past the wear indicators because even at that depth they are dangerous in heavy water conditions (hydroplane). These will be getting changed out in the spring if not sooner. I will say that the traction (dry and wet) seemed pretty good and they are quiet. Overall picture though, I would rather have the cheap Kuhmos that it had that went 55,000 miles. They may have been a little louder and not as good traction, but they held up well and were dirt cheap at the time. My next tire is going to be a Michelin. They are more expensive, but you get what you pay for it would seem. I've always got a nice ride, acceptable handling and excellent mileage from the Michelins. Hope this helps.
  21. A few things you can do: - tune tailored towards fuel economy. Most people tailor their tunes to improve WOT performance using 93 octane. From what you're saying, it sounds like you will want to run 87 octane. I wouldn't expect much of an improvement in WOT performance with a tune (87 octane) and probably marginal gains in part throttle power/fuel economy. If a tuner spends the time on the dyno and focuses on fuel economy they can literally (cell by cell) optimize the torque the engine makes in a given part of the map by adding or removing a degree or two of timing (if the engine needs it) and improve economy. Absolutely can! Problem is, that takes a ton of time and the tune is going to vary with different engine/truck combinations (gearing, tire size, engine size, mods, etc). In other words, a tune that is optimized for you might have some knock on another person's truck even though that persons truck is pretty close in comparison to yours. For that "little bit" of power or efficiency no one is going to do it. It doesn't pay. Point is that you can improve your economy with a tune that is optimized. There are also other things a tuner can do like a "lean cruise" strategy where during an extended cruise condition, the vehicle will go into open loop and the computer will lean out the air/fuel (typically up into the mid 15:1 range instead of 14.7:1). For the average tune you will buy, I'm sure you can expect maybe a mpg improvement, maybe a little more. Every little bit helps I guess. Torque is going to get that heavy truck moving. The easier you can do that, the less you have to push down on the gas and the better economy you will get. Gearing, engine size, efficiency of combo (bolts like headers, cai, electric fans to reduce drag, etc) and obviously tune will affect this. I had a 2000 silverado ext cab 2wd with the 16" aluminum wheels, stock size tires, 3.73 gear and 5.3 engine. If I drove it easy (no jack rabbit starts mainly) I would get 17 mpg in the city! That was light stop and go traffic with speeds averaging around 40 mph. If it was heavy stop and go, I would drop down into the 15.5 - 16 mpg range. On the hwy, I would see 20mpg driving 70-80mph. I had drove it a little slower (60-75mph) and averaged 20.9mpg. I'm sure it could get 21-22 if I drove 50-55mph. Another reference my buddy with the same basic truck except it had a 3.42 gear got 22-23 driving 55-60mph. Note this is driving in light traffic conditions (out in country). If you're constantly speeding up or slowing down because of the traffic that number would drop a bit. For you, probably a tune, a lighter tire/wheel combo, tune up, and all of your bolts ons. A "beater" might be right up your alley if fuel is killing you that bad. Just saying...A 4.8 will (in theory) use less fuel then other engine combos, but if it takes more gas pedal to get it moving at the rate you desire then you might end up using more fuel then say a 5.3 or a truck with a steeper gear. Maybe you should do a blower like a TVS1900 mod. If you can drive it easy, you will usually see that it takes less pedal to get the truck moving now (plus the blower can increase the engine efficiency) and you will save fuel. Problem is, only about .002% of the population can drive it that way Good luck and sorry for the novel

Zippy, When are you coming to MI? Also, how is the new 408 combo running for you? Be nice to get together with some of the board guys and do something. I have 153,000 on my truck now and I want to start putting together an engine before I'm left stranded when this one breaks---lol! I think I'm going to go with what you recommended (408/TVS 2300). I bet that will rip!
