  1. I'm installing a Pioneer 8100nex and the only wire I haven't connected is the Vehicle Speed Sensor wire. I can't, for the life of me, seem to find it. Does anyone know where it is? I've been told it's on the radio harness but I have yet to locate it. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
  2. I'm having the same problem with my truck, 2006 Silverado SS. I have an aftermarket alarm (Viper7900), Pioneer AvicZ130BT, JL Audio 1000/v2, JL Audio 300/4, 2 JL Audio 10", and 6 separates, with 2 tweeters by the windshield. Whatever was causing it, was draining my batteries to the point of no return..even my yellow top D78 series. I have circuit breakers that shut off my amps, one each, so I shut them down and now I can go days without having to use a jumper pack to start my truck. I haven't tracked it down yet, just haven't had time. However.... I do have a little experience in electronics so I took my truck to have it load tested....alternator and battery are fine. (even with amps on) So my next step, when I get to it, is to use my multimeter to do a parasitic drain check. You need a decent multimeter that measures amperage. Set your multimeter up as directed by the manufacturer of your multimeter (usually means moving one lead to amps ...20A and leaving the other one on ...common) Basically, with the engine off, you take the negative battery cable off, touch one probe of your multimeter to the cable and the other to the negative battery post. Look at your meter and, if my memory is correct, it shouldn't be too much more or less than 500 mAmps (miliamps). If it is, you have a parasitic component sucking the juice from your battery when the engine is off. Pull a fuse and check the meter, if it drops to within the 500 mAmps range, you have found your problem. If not, put that fuse back and pull another one until you find the fuse that brings you into the right range. Once you find the fuse, you will at least know which circuit to troubleshoot to find the problem. If you have aftermarket components in your truck, I would start with the stereo, alarm, lighting circuits first and go from there. I'm not on here very often so I thought I'd post something to try and help out. The reason I logged on today was to research adding a second battery and upgrading my alternator to one with more output, like a DC Power 370 amp. Currently, from the factory, our alternator puts out about 145. Again, hope this information helps.
  3. I have a JL Audio 1000 Watt amp with a 1yr warranty from JL for $550, if anyone is interested. Ocy 323-839-3976 [email protected]
  4. I live in Los Angeles, too. About 2 miles from Culver City. I knew our trucks were head turners but didn't realize how much they are in demand to car/truck thiefs. I have a viper 7900 with remote paging, proximity sensors, glass breaking sensors, interior cab ultrasonic sensors and I'm thinking I need to add some kill switches, maybe turn on my onstar, and some sort of fuel cutoff device. After reading what happened to your truck, I think I better beef up my security. I'm just glad they found your truck and I hope whoever took it gets locked up quicker than the time it took to take your truck....a**holes!!

  6. Great...I'll try that this week or definitely by the weekend. Thanks for the suggestion, I'll let you guys know how it goes.
  7. I hear ya...but I don't think that was it. I let my girl's cousin use it to go back and forth to work. Doing something stupid would only put him on the bus so I'm sure he was careful with it. He just failed to mention the clicking sound to me the day before. He said it didn't sound that bad so he didn't think much of it. (in his defense, he knows absolutely nothing about cars/trucks)
  8. I'll have to look into how to check the front diff. Any direction on how to do that would be appreciated greatly...
  9. It bogs down like it is trying to go but something is holding it back. Feels like I could force it, but common sense tells me not to, of course.
  10. I'll try that tomorrow..thanks for your input.
  11. No, no movement in any of the gears including reverse so maybe broken parts is the problem. I'll look into that. Thanks for replying, though, I appreciate it.
  12. Oh wow....that sucks. The dealer said 3000 for that. But thanks for ringing in.
  13. A friend of mine was driving my 05 SS AWD (completely stock except K&N CAI) when the truck just locked up. It would not go forward nor backwards. You can go through all the gears seemingly fine but in drive and reverse it will not budge, not even a foot in either direction. (Great!!) He says he heard a clicking sound the day before. He described it as similar to when we were kids and we'd tape a poker card to our bikes by the spokes to hear that click or tap from the spokes hitting the card....only this was a heavier metal sound. For whatever reason, he didn't think it was anything major. (Wrong!!) So my question is...does anyone have any idea why the truck would start up, seem to go through the gears just fine with my foot on the brake, but when trying to go forward or back up, the truck won't budge. Any help from you guys would be greatly appreciated as I have no clue where to even start with this one.....Thanks in advance. A post here is fine but, just in case, my email is [email protected] if someone would rather email me.
  14. I have a Viper 7900 on both my SSs. It has tilt, glass breaking, ultrasonic sensor (for movement inside the cab) and proximity sensor (stand next to the truck for more than 10 seconds, alarm chirps off a warning..keep standing there, alarm goes off). It comes with remote start and 2 waypaging, which is nice. Unfortunately it's now discontinued. You can find it on ebay brand new and have it installed. I haven't had any problems at all with the alarm on my truck. Viper recently released a new alarm with paging, etc., called the HD and the LC3. From what I know, the HD isn't out yet. Apparently it's something Viper has hyped up but yet to produce. The LC3 is readily availalbe and I've heard good things about it as well. One of my friends who is an installer says they have had to return visits due to the LC3 being installed. You might want to check into those two and see which you like, if any. Hope this helps.
  15. I'm all in. I can't find SS clothing, hats, t-shirt, or anything else anywhere so I'm getting at least 3 (maybe more) depending on the cost. Any approximation on the cost of the shirts?
  16. The same kinda thing happened to me not too long ago. I was driving southbound coming through an intersection. I was in the lane closest to the curb. The other two lanes stopped for this guy driving a buick skylark or whatever. Well when the two lanes stopped for him, he floored it....right into the side of my 03 SS where the two doors meet. An argument started as he tried to tell me I shouldn't have been in that lane. I told him, no matter what lane I'm in I have the right of way if I am driving straight and YOU are making the turn....unless it's an arrow YOU have to yield. Long story short, he called his insurance company and told them I ran into him. The adjuster from HIS insurance took one look and said, how in the hell did you hit the front of his car with the side of your truck....your wheels can't turn that way. I'm still waiting for the insurance to go through to fix my truck but I know I'll get it. It's just unfortunate how people try and turn things around instead of admitting their fault. Good think I have an 06 SS that's untouched.
  17. I was looking around ebay this morning when I came across this wrecked SS, It's for about 8000.00 which would probably be about the same as what you'd pay for all the replacement parts for your truck. When you're doine, you could probably recover some of the money by selling what's left of the parted out SS. Just a thought, here is the link. Hope it helps. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Chevrolet-S...bayphotohosting
  18. That sucks. Good thing they were just some kids passing through or some crack heads. Someone who knew their cars/trucks would have had a field day with your SS. Happy to hear that it didn't result in too much of a loss. I installed a viper 7900 on my SS. The proximity sensor goes off throughout the day but I'd rather it beep every now and then than to have someone break into it, damage it, or worse. Anyway, just glad your truck is ok....well, minus the ashtray.
  19. I was really looking forward to going out to Ontario today but I've got some plastering to do today before building nad safety comes out on Monday. Kinda bummed about not being able to go. I told everyone I was going at the last meet and I didn't want to just not show up. I had a good time at Speedzone racing and meeting everyooe. You'll definitely see me around again soon. Hope you all have a good time today out in Ontario. Later.
  20. I'm not extremely knowlegeable when it comes to arc audio but I can tell you this. I had purchased JL Audio for my ss. Turns out the woofers were too big for the box so this one shop suggested arc audio woofers. I blew the first pair 30 minutes after leaving the shop (an hour drive). They replaced them two days later with a new set. After the blowout I did some research. Supposedly, Arc Audio components are not intended for earthshaking volume of sound but more for quality of sound. My 1000 watt amp welded..yes welded, the speaker to it's self. It was just too much for it to handle. Arc Audio does make some higher end components that may handle the wattage, I'm not sure. But in my opinion and my experience...Arc Audio is for an audiophile, while other brands are for those who like to cruise, look good, and show off. Needless to say, I now have ALL JL Audio components in my truck. Hope this tidbit of info helps.
  21. So for sure it's on the 6th at go cart world at noon, right? Do we need to bring anything? I'll be there for sure regardless. Just trying to get final info.
  22. I'm still a noobie on this site but my heart still goes out to you. I'm sure you will bounce back and be able to get another one when time and finances allow. I feel your pain, trust me. Before the SS I had a z71 that I had to turn in. I was literally sick for days.
  23. I think the package at the go kart place would be fun and 30.00 is not that bad. The idea about the airsoft/paintball sounds like fun, too, but can be pricey for those who have to rent equipment. I'm up for whatever. If we vote, I'd vote for the go kart idea, but even if my vote is in the minorty, I'm still all IN.
  24. What's up everyone? I don't put up nearly enough posts and I don't really have time to do this one. LOL HOWEVER, I will definitely be there no doubt about it. I was looking forward to my first get together with the sss. I just got mine a few months ago and I'm sure I could learn tons from you guys. Anywhere, anytime, I'm IN!!
  25. Did this topic just die out? Is the may 10th GTG still on?
