  1. Maintenance at a Fabcon plant. Fabcon makes precast walls for Wall-Mart, Lowes, Builder's Square, Menard's, Gander Mountain, etc. I've worked at Magnetech, a body shop between jobs, and at an electric company where I made the prototype motors for Delphi for G.M.'s first electric cars and I repaired the bay door motor for the Space Shuttle after it failed to open in space. I commute two hours a day on my Harley or in my Neon. My truck never goes to work. My wife and I care for two guys in our home with cognitive disabilities. I'm lucky to be working and half expect to be laid off soon. I take care of the plant electrical, fab eqipment, repair our Mac trucks, and p.m. equipment. I have been really lucky. I do my fair share of volunteer work. My truck is the only thing that is for me and it will be the first thing to go if my luck runs out.

  2. I haven't read the whole thread but I just wanted to comment at the risk of sounding dumb. Last year in '07 I saw a new bodied SS with grey bumpers, bumper scoops, and SS badging by the Indianapolis airport. Now the dumb part. I've been looking for this truck at chevy.com and everywhere else and heard the sad news that chevy quit making them.

  3. Love my SS. Got a lot of comps. at Indy 500 yesterday. Couldn't have taken the family in a Lightning. It still empresses me every time I take it out. I have drooled over other fast looking vehicles only to be let down once I got behind the wheel. The SSS is the whole package. Glad to have it.

  4. Mine was repainted courtesy of burnout king's insurance company. They sanded, shot the nicks with GM Victory Red, and re-cleared. Looks factory. Also has a diamond clear coat paint protection on it from Ziebart and shines like a diamond. Will upload pics when I become computer literate.

  5. hey welcome to the site..... wat year Cobra did u build? N/A or FI? also wat way r u trying togo with the truck? turbo, S/C, cubes and N2O? also wat type of engine r u running in the truck now 5.3 or the 6.0? wat type of budget r u gonna be working with? we're gonna made more details on how ur tryin to achieve ur goals, it's gonna take some work to make a truck faster than a cobra.

also a little advice, if were affraid to really open the Cobra ur gonna have a harder time doing it in a heavy truck... hope to see some progress on this project.

Rob, I had a sharp 78 Cobra with a junk 302. This was 15 years ago. I rebuilt a 351w from a 72 Galaxi. The heads were redone to 4v as they had the same casting. The crank was cross drilled. I assembled it with [excuse the spelling] a Lunati cam, hypertecnic pistons (no NOS), full headers, the 302 pan and Cobra covers. It already had a Hurst tremac. It had ladder bars and the biggest tires that would fit. It would lift the front end with the 8.8 and I would loose my line of sight. The 9 inch from the Galaxi would bolt in and it got sold with the car. I miss it as only a few of you may understand. I never realized its limit and for this reason it is probably more missed. Oh, it was n/a.

As for the truck, it's a 6L AWD. I hear maggies are good on these. It will have to have headers to breath. I'm not looking to put a forged bottom end in it. I don't want destructive boost or a tune guaranteed to tear up my transmission or NOS. I'm looking for maximum speed at minimum destruction and will probably do a converter to make it fun. I'm still pricing it out. And I get offers. This guy has a muffler shop and I can get headers cheap. That guy has a converter from an SSTrailblaizer. I hear about this tuning guru in my area but he's busted a couple trannies and I'm not going to risk it. I plan on getting it all done in one shot and leave it to the professionals. Some big name shops do this but their prices are unreasonable. But it will get done.

  6. I've had my truck for a year. It's an '03 with low miles and not so low a price. I just got on the site today. My goal is to make my truck faster than the Cobra I rebuilt from the ground up. I built a hipo 351 for the Cobra and never had it all out. I feared the car and sold it to my boss. Now I'm hungry again. I'm more of a salt flats guy than a drag racer. Speed is my thing. I'm in unfamiliar territory. I've traded the carborator for a p.c.m. I've been knocked down at my 30,000 mile service but will rise again. Soon, I will have headers and a maggie and a yank and a tune and I will feast. This is my mission.
