  1. So I have a QS SD which runs a D60 in the rear. I upgraded from the Traclok to a Detroit True Trac. It was definetly a nice piece weighed twice what the stocker did. Lots of metal! It is a good diff. Was it worth the 800 dollar upgrade (bearings and all) I am not completely convinced. They say queit operation, but upon start up when it is could you can hear the helicals faintly rattling around. Once it is warm this goes away. On long sweeping corners there can be some slight vibrations. I figure when it is on the verge of lock up this happens. On tight turn (QS Turns) it was giving a faint chirp, but that seems to have subsidded. Control in the snow in rain is a little better and noticeable, but not 800 dollars better. Mind you my truck is Supercharged so it is getting a work out and traction counts. I never really had any traction or control problems to start with though. It is known amoung many SD QS owners that the rear ends can be noisy. I unfortunatel had one of these trucks for about 90K before I switched to the Truc Trac. Only reason I decided to do it was because I had a tune on the transmission that ended up roasting the pinion bearing and seal. It looks like a couple other bearing wer on ther way also. I am not sure GM set it up the greatest.

As for the front, there are not any options I know of for the 8.25. I have heard of some limited slips available from Yukon for the 9.25 that came in 3/4 ton trucks

  2. You cannot switch the fron diff off on the AWD. It will burn up the viscuous coupling in the diff. The transfer case needs to be loaded front and back evenly.

If you mark the pinion in relationship to the case and then do the same with one of the hubs, you can rotate the pinion until the hub makes one complete revolution. Count the number of revolutions the pinion makes in reference to your mark and that will tell you the gear ratio of the diff you have.

  3. Yea I thought I would pipe up. I put my Radix on a while back, and the best week of owning my truck ended with a goofy shifting trans. After teardown, inspection showed a cracked planetary shell, roasted clutches and steels, and some nasty fluid. 2800 dollars later and one very not happy wife I was back on the road, but that was quite an investment to make after buying a supercharger.

I think a beefed up trans should last a while, as long as you don't give too many "check this out" rides to your friends. :D

  4. You all have many more posts then I do so I won't pretend I know more than the rest of the world, and will assume you have some experience with pumping up these trucks.

I just wanted to throw out there that you should keep some money in the pot for transmission work. I do not think I have seen a good Blower install not merit a transmission at somepoint in time. You may be able to stave of a trans rebuild for a while with a good quality servo.

  5. these are 40 amp relays and with being under the dash, no need to be sealed. if an install for a remote start took you 8 hours, then you aint chargin enough. as for the no heat shrink connectors, its all in the crimp tool. mine are the ratcheting type that dont let go till the terminal is crimped properly.

I definetly did not charge enough! It was for free. He is my Brother in Law after all. I have ssen some of your stuff around the site, from what I have seen it looks like you do outstanding work. I am getting old and slow in my old age. I aslo had to trace things out on his truck since I have not tapped into a 2000 yet, and do not have a schematic. Grabbed a couple pin outs of the net, that got me from point a to point b. I have been engineering electrical systems for 15 years, I have not been so hands on as of the last couple years due to a kid an laziness.

That is going to be a slick ride. With the money your putting into that, you may wanna look into the new system Littlefuse is offering, to control the electrical system.

This is what I put in, and I am EXTREMELY happy. It sounds awsome, it integrated with my truck 100%, and now my phone is handsfree. I can even stream the music from my phone over the bluetooth connection. I do this when the wife steals the Ipod. I maybe have 450 wrapped up in the whole thing. I am suprised at how well the Bose speakers work when not hampered by the OEM equalization.

  7. I just put a Valet 561T in my BIWs truck this past weekend. I thought I had a bunch of wiring. You got me beat!

Just a tip. I scavanged the relay bank out of an old Bonneville in the junkyard. They have 12 sealed highpowered relay on the firewall. It took me 8 hours. He couldn't believe how long I was taking. He asked me how long it took to build harnesses for my cars and I said a while. I let him do the neutral bypass switch. He used the blue no heat shrinkable butt splices. His splices did not even survive routing the harness back up under the dash. When I am done my harnesses can double for rock climbing rope:-) It just takes a while.
