  1. Thanks guys. If I were to do the 1900, maybe 2600 - the 2300, maybe 2800 then? I have to be honest here after getting some numbers together... Preliminary pricing from Jake's - 3k for stage 3 4L80, 850 for billet stall, he's telling me 250 for transf. case parts & work, $150 to have the main shaft cut down, I'm guessing 2 or 300 for a new, longer front shaft (does anyone know if another Chevy 4wd shaft will work here?) - then I have shipping which will probably be around 200 or more if I have him do the transf. case mods. THEN there's the install since my garage won't allow me to get the truck high enough to remove the tranny and replace it....maybe another $500? ...that's already $5150 just for the tranny swap! THEN add on another $6500 for the 2300 Maggie and I'm already @ $11650. THEN a lot of you are telling me to upgrade my fuel system - does anyone have suggestions on manufacturers and exactly what I'd need for that? I think what I'm getting at is, 15k isn't going as far as I originally expected and don't think I'll have enough for the cam and head work. + I'm thinking that brakes are a little more important after adding the Maggie anyway.
  2. OK, so I've been emailing Jake about the 4L80 tranny and he recommends the stage 3 with a billet cover, single disc converter. My question is... how much stall should I go with considering the Maggie's instant torque and me wanting a streetable ride?
  3. Thanks, I appreciate your opinion very much. This is exactly why I started this discussion - so I can get different opinions, do research and make an informed decision, so thanks again to everyone!
  4. You kiddin me, this is great research right here! And I HAVE decided to do the build myself except for the install of the tranny & driveshafts which is waaaay outta my league. I'm still a little torn between the Pro and Maggie but think I'll go Maggie for three reasons - # 1 More low end torque = less stall = more streetable and my goal is a very streetable ride with lots of power. + I like smoking douchbags in Fords or Hemi's off the line incognito - hence the license plate # 2 Easier to install for a NB like me # 3 Awesome sound! btw, sweet Camaro setup Johnny!
  5. Thanks for that, I agree! the L92's were recommended, so I didn't even think of that. Anyone else want to chime in on those heads?
  6. As advertised, I AM a total novice/newbie BUT I do have above average common sense. My common sense tells me to do the build on my truck right and in my opinion, the head swap is the right thing to do over machining the stock ones - especially since there are already clearance issues with the LQ9''s flat pistons. All I'M saying is if I do the cam swap, I understand I should replace the springs at a minimum, so why not just replace the heads for an additional 25 hp while I have the engine apart and beef everything up to handle the extra hp.
  7. Actually, the L92 lung change will yield more like 15lbs of torque and 25hp over stock and can purchased from Summit Racing for $920.00 for the pair. SO, if you do the math @ a dollar per hp comparison to the maggie (which yields about 120hp for $5,700.00 or $47.50 per 1 hp), the L92 upgrade would actually be more cost effective @ only $36.80 per 1 hp gained.
  8. So they would give me the proper manifold to mate with the L92 heads and install the 2300 impellers and housing with the upgrade?
  9. If I just did that, I may have enough left in my budget to stop properly! ...with all that extra power added, it may be a wise choice huh?
  10. Hell, it would be cheaper to just slap a maggie, cam and 4L80 in it...the heads seem like a LOT of work anyway.
  11. I realize that, but I was mainly talking about the head swap. If I swapped to L92's with the rectangular ports, I would have to use the entire tvs 2300 so they would mate up...wouldn't I?. The 2300 has the pulley system on the left side and ours is in the front with the intake on the left. I don't think it would work unless I'm missing something. From what I understood from previous posts, just the larger impellers and housing would be used off the 2300. As far as the warranty is concerned, who really cares at this point, right? They way it is worded, they won't stand behind it unless EVERYTHING is bone stock...including the tranny. The other solution would be the L92's, fast intake and ProCharger. I bet that setup would make more power anyway.
  12. ...or would I run into problems with the maggie if I change to the L92's? I know the Magnuson website says it will void the warranty unless it's a stock motor.
  13. Why do you say that? If I'm going to go through all the trouble of tearing down the engine, why not just replace them to get these results: http://www.hotrod.com/techarticles/engine/hrdp_0711_6l_hop_up_pt_2/viewall.html ...with the L92's, cam and current mods, I'd be looking at around 510 hp. Then add the maggie onto that and i'm getting close to 700
  14. Ok, so now I'm really thinking about this. I would have to know what cam to use with my blower and L92 heads...do I upgrade the 41lb injectors that come with the blower bc of the L92 heads and cam? I would need a lot of help lol!
  15. Thanks for the boost of confidence! You may be right too. My BIGGEST concern is if I were to let a shop do the build that they would half @ss something or everything. I've been in construction for almost 30 years and am very meticulous with everything I do. I know how to use the tools, just never did any engine work and am kind of fearful of not doing something right, forgetting to do something or not being able to put everything back together once I get it all apart. Although I suppose I could set up my video cam as I'm taking everything apart!
  16. ...or maybe leave the blower off until they do the engine work first.
  17. Good info. Thanks. My game plan is to order the Maggie the first week of Jan. from a distributor in Cali. that the Maggie rep turned me onto. He's saving me about $400.00 off msrp. Then I'm going to install it myself to save some $ as they're telling me I should be able to handle it. Then order the tranny from Jake's as you suggested, take it all up to MC Racing and let them do the heads, cam, tune, tranny install, mods to the driveshafts etc. I'm hoping MC can do all of that for the 5 or 6k I'll have left. Do any of you guys have an idea how much the engine work I'm wanting to have done SHOULD cost me with MC Racing?
  18. FYI - The rep. from Magnuson and the distributor advised against running the 2300 on our engine. The Rep. told me everyone she knew who worked there ran the 1900 on our motor. The distributor I'm buying mine from ($5,700.00 delivered to my door) told me the gain would not be that significant and it would actually take longer to spool up than the 1900 off the line. Although he would have sold me the 2300, he said it just wasn't worth the extra $600.00 in his opinion.
  19. Also, I'll keep everyone posted on what I decide. I'll upload some pics once I get the hood and gate AND of all the mods. The hood should be arriving the 30th. If any of you guys haven't seen them yet, you'll have to check it out...they're f***ing awesome! Thanks again!
  20. Thanks very much for that info. I actually live right down the street from ProCharger...132 & Blackbob. I actually already stopped in to MC Racing right after I got my truck home about a month and a half ago. I spoke to a guy about a ProCharger and he sent me an email quote for around $6,800.00 for the install and tune but I wasn't sure if they were a reputable shop and wanted to check them out first. So thanks for that too. Glad you could enlighten me about the 4L80 overkill. I just got on FLT's website and saw that was the beefiest one they made and thought that would be the way to go. I'll check out Jake's website and see what he recommends. I really do appreciate your help and everyone else who has responded. Thanks very, very much!
  21. ...one other question though. I went on their website and entered my truck's info and it says the MP1900. the 2300 is for the 6.2 liter new camaro motor is says. will the 2300 work on our motors too?
  22. lol, ok, I think that sold me on the Maggie! Thanks guys!
  23. Thanks, but why do you like the Maggie instead of the Pro?
