  1. Thanks for your input, 90ZXdriver. At 7 and 8 years of life your batteries sure don't owe you anything. Not that it's the final answer, but my battery is just one year old. I know that they can go at any age and will get the system checked asap. Thanks again for your input.
  2. Thanks for you guys responses. So far this has been a one time happening. Haven't noticed any other symptoms of any problems. Bad aSS; I hear ya about the quirks. My truck seems to have a couple gremlins too. Luckily they are pretty mild mannered in my case. Eddiess; I'll look into that ground strap. They used to be common on all cars and trucks and I am surprised to hear that these trucks don't have one as standard issue. 03Blackout; I'm glad I don't seem to have to watch mine glow for two weeks, I don't think my nerves would stand it.
  3. Got in the truck, (03 SSS), for the first time that day, and noticed that the battery warning light was glowing, (Dimly). This was before I turned the key and started the truck. Battery light stayed on at the same low level after starting. Battery spun the motor over as normal and seemed to be fully charged. Had somewhere I had to be and so fired her up and drove to town. (About a 25 minute drive. Half of it at 55+ MPH) The voltmeter gauge on the dash was rock steady at just over 14 volts for the entire drive. (No fluctuation with turn signals or when I turned the stereo on or off). About 10 minutes into the drive the warning light went out for several minutes but came back on, at the same dim level, for the rest of the drive. Parked the truck for about 1 1/2 hour. She started fine and the battery light stayed out for the drive home which included two more stops and starts. I just went to her, this morning, and the batery. warning light is acting normally, truck spins over normally and starts. Everything looks O.K. Any of y'all had these symptoms? Do you know what it is indicating? Thanks for all input. John
  4. Good guess, on the amount, Quicky. Thanks for the update and info on what caused your problem.
  5. Where's the little pink bear go? Good looking project. I look forward to hearing how the results turn out.
  6. Welcome Cody Sit and stay a while. Plenty of helpful enthusiasts round here.
  7. Prayers and best wishes to all Firemen. It's a tough, and dangerous job and it takes dedicated folks to answer the call. My Dads Dad was a chief. Lost a leg below the knee hopping a freight to get to school as a kid. Didn't stop him from running up a ladder onto a roof in turnout gear. Here's to all y'all;
  8. WOWEE, Carl, You Da MAN!! I didn't start checking this site till late last year and so had missed your project till now. Great job bringing your truck back from the brink of extinction.
  9. i had to be in salt lake city utah for a memorial service, (my buddy was KIA in afghanistan RIP SPC James Miller) Sorry to hear about your Buddy, BgRd! RIP SPC James Miller.
  10. I got my 03 SSS used with 47,000 miles on the clock. First test drive was the first time i had sat in an AWD vehicle or driven one. Noticed the same mild vibrations through the steering wheel that you mention in a quite narrow speed range of 40 to 50 MPH. Figured that it might be normal for AWD. Wrong! 5,000 miles later the vibration was unmistakable from 15 MPH up to around 65 MPH. Replace all bearings in front diff; Problem solved, $1100. My brakes squeal, a little, too. Mostly at very low speed and under light braking. I would say that, considering that disc brake pads are in constant light contact with the rotors, it is virtually impossible that there is something stuck between your pad and rotor, and that if there was you would see a very obvious groove in the rotor.
  11. I got an extremely good deal on my 03 with 47,000 on the clock. It now has 52K on it and I have replaced the bearings in the front diff. ($1100), and replaced the left front drive hub ass., ($550). The interior compass / temp. display just quit. Every time I hit a bump in the road; the doors bang and rattle like she has 100K+ on her, and the weatherstrip howls with any cross wind above 45 MPH. Every time I mash the GO pedal; I fall in love all over again. Drive defensively, Don't put the stock brakes in a panic situation. Don't give over 12 - 14K.

  17. Red and blue are O.K. , I guess, but the black ones are faster. Best luck finding your truck, and welcome to the site.

  19. Welcome, Sam. Best of luck selling the Blazer and finding your SSS. I've had my black 03 for 8 months and it still gives the "warm and fuzzy" every time I climb in her.
  20. Welcome and congrats on getting your truck. Youve got a nice start on the mods from the get-go.
  21. I can imagine spending a month, there, and wondering where the time went when it was all said and done. Thanks again for the fine pics.
  22. Glad I could be a help, Toom, and really glad to hear that you've gotten good results from the fluid change. If it was me, and your diff stay's quiet for a couple weeks or a month, I would go to Synthetic fluid, (If you didn't on this change). Anytime you can dodge an expensive repair means more bucks free'd up for mod's, EH? Edited to ask; By the way; What did your drain plug look like?
  23. Found the "How To" on front diff oil change; http://www.silveradoss.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=15972
