Thanks. Yeah the 77 is a lot of fun, and it brings back a lot of memories driving her. Its in pretty good shape and it only has 31k original miles. But since it has been driven so rarely and it sat for years, literally everything leaks. The Freon on the AC lines have completely leaked out, every gasket on the engine, transmission, transfer cases, etc... are leaking. So it will take a little while to replace everything that needs it. The interior is also faded and craked, but the truck has very little rust. Its mostly surface rust and no major rust on frame or the body, other than the typical rust that nearly every square body gets at the wheel wells on the bottom rear quarter panel.

Yeah as much fun as I thought the 69 project would be a lot of fun I realized it was going to take a lot more time and money than I thought. We spent quite a bit already on all the replacement panels, body and paint work, and I know there is no way we could sell it for everything we put into it. But we knew going into that that it might cost us $25k plus to completely finish her, yet it would only be worth like $15k. So I have no idea what I would let it go for. I would have to discuss with my dad and see what he thinks.

The carbon fiber trim looks great. I remember years ago on the forum everyone wanted the carbon fiber trim, but it was already impossible to come by even back in 07 and 08. Back in 2012 when I still had my SS I wanted to do all the carbon fiber trim but could not find anything but the center console (which is still available from GM). So I went with some of that aftermarket stuff that you stick on, but I was not a huge fan of it. I think Im definitely going to have to get the center console trim and finish everything off.

I waited more years than I wish I had to buy a second truck as a daily in order to keep miles off of the SSS. I tried a Toyota Corolla for a while, and it's a great 250,000 + mile beater, (Ya can't kill them), but I am a truck guy.

Now I am realizing how I really have to think about driving the SSS to keep problems like you talk about with your Grandads 77 from happening.

I can sympathize with you an the money you've got in the 69 versus what you could expect to get out of it. The announcers for the Barrett Jackson auctions frequently make the comment that it's common for vehicles not to bring the money that it took to build them. (Just like you can't expect to get your money out of mods at resale time.

I remember one of those rounds of excitement about the CF trim. Shoulda looked for some back then I guess.

  2. Oh the SS sedan is unbelievable. It's an absolute race car when you want it to be, but has enough comfort and bells and whistles to keep you satisfied. Mine is a manual trans, so it makes it even more fun to haul the mail!

I'm sure that the standard trans makes a great car even better. I always wished that they had offered the SS as a coupe. (Like the NASCAR cars :jester: )

  3. I brightened this pic up a little to show some detail. This was early Monday 08-28-2017, right at 2AM. Water is about a foot deep in the street and flowing like a river; I was freaking out because it rose up to there pretty quickly and I figured if it was flowing like that, a lot more was coming. It's a couple feet away from the back tire of my Intimidator.

I kept going outside and checking...at 3AM I could see the center of the street again. That 2AM pic is the highest the water got here; completely amazing...lucky as hell.

Glad to hear you dodged the bullet on the flooding.

It's a mighty bad feeling watching flood waters creep up on your house and stuff.

  4. LoneSStar wouldn't happen to have a part number for you stainless line kit would you? Surely there isn't any difference from 03 to 07...

    Thanks

I got my kit from Fine Lines and am happy with the set.

They had some trouble getting the right kit for my 03 AWD SS but worked at it till they got it right.

If you want to check them out contact Josh Stamper on their contact page. He is the one who got me the right kit.

  5. My 03 has done the same thing once or twice. Just about the time that I started thinking that I had a problem, it cleared up on it's own.

If I remember right that was before I got a tune from Zippy. (The tune might well have programed out a border line problem with fuel air mix)

I don't remember hearing about it being a frequent problem.

I also have a 2000 Silverado and it has done this several times. (There again; it sorts itself out pretty quickly.) Apples to oranges comparison, I guess, although they are both brain controlled motors.

  6. Super lucky over here on NW side of town. Had water up the driveway a little bit but didn't actually reach vehicles. Areas really close by are underwater, and at least one, possibly two tornadoes hit nearby too.

Good to hear that you and your family have dodged the bullet Richard. Sure hope the worst is over for the Houston area.

  7. Glad to hear your doing OK. Sorry to hear about your Grandparents. It's hard to concieve of the number of homes destroyed around Houston. We haven't even begun to hear those numbers yet.

I've been watching the news and thinking that living there has to be an absolute nightmare right now.

I'm on the east coast and we get hurricanes regularly but none have been anything like Harvey.
