  1. One day last week the temp gauge didnt work then the next day it did. Now for 2 weeks nothing. Checked leads to temp sending unit on driver side by the 1st plug. Had power.

I read if you ground this the gauge should move. Mine didnt. Tried this on my buddys truck and his gauge went nuts. So I am assuming my gauge is bad. All other gauges work ok.

Question: do I have to buy a whole new dash cluster or can you get only a temp gauge or is there an option for a set of gauges to go on the pillar by the driver front windshield with a temp gauge.?

  2. 1quicktruck here. Just wondering about a cam for my truck. 373 gears .Tires 285/60/18 . No cats shorties ,magna flow exhaust, 5.3 liter. 160 stat. Corvette servo and shift kit . magna charger with stock pulley. Fast chips custom tune w/dyno. No stall converter. I like a nice lope but I dont pull anything other than a garden tractor on a very small trailer. in the summer only. It has 87k miles now but I dont race other than mustangs every once in a while or whatever.. Mostly a dd. I think u suggested a LEP Stage 1 224/230 and something about 116? No hurry take ur time. 2004 silverado extended cab.

  3. Due to an over popular cam spec requesting this is a new cam help guide and posting. If you want to review the cams here, feel free and ask all you'd like in this post. Want a cam recomdation or have a question on a specific cam, just post it in here. Info for cams needed is...

    Comp Cams:

XR259HR...206/212 .515/.522 112LSA. Great cam for a stock truck looking to make big low rpm torque and use a stock torque converter. Better suited to a 4.8L or very mild 5.3L. Recomended torque converter would be no more than a 3000 for a 4.8L or 5.3L and stock or 2600 for a 6.0L. Recomended valve springs would be LS6 GM springs.

XR265HR...212/218 .522/.529 114LSA. Great cam for a stock truck using stock truck exhaust manifolds and either a stock converter or low rpm stall. In a 4.8L or 5.3L I'd recomend a 2600 to 3000 stall. In a 6.0L I'd recomend a stock or 2600 stall, but the 2600 would be better suited to the job. Recomended valve springs would be GM LS6 springs.

XR269HR...216/220 .525/.532 114LSA Decent cam for a bolt on type truck running shorty headers or long tubes. Stock manifolds could be used, but headers would be a bigger gain at this point. For a 4.8L this is a fairly agressive cam and I'd recomend at least a 2800 to 3200 stall. For a 5.3L and 6.0L a 2600 to 3000 stall would do the job nicely. This cam isn't really recomended for gains with it's low lift and bigger duration. Other than great valve spring life there isn't much reason to run it. Recomended valve springs would be LS6 springs.

XR273HR...220/224 .530/.534 112LSA Decent cam for an LQ9 for someone worried about valve spring life. With this much duration and this low of lift I just wouldn't recomend it as a choice for any application.

XR277HR...224/228 .534/.537 112LSA Agressive cam for duration and LSA. Not enough lift to make it worth recomending at this duration.

XR265HR...212/218 .558/.563 115LSA Very nice cam for a truck with mild exhaust upgrades. Not a recomended cam for a 4.8L or 5.3L as this much split with the small intake valves isn't the way to go. For a 6.0L this cam makes for a nice and mild dail driver with very little lope at idle. Stock converter can be used, but a 2600 stall is recomended. This cam can also be used with a blower or nitrous with decent results. Recomended valve springs would be LS6 spring or Comp 918.

XR275HR...222/224 .566/.568 112LSA Very strong cam for a naturally asperated setup. In a 4.8L you'll need a 3000 to 3400 stall. In a 5.3L you'll need a 2600 minimum and best results at 3000 stall. With a 6.0L I'd recomend a 2600 to 3000 stall depending on how agressive you want the launch. This is a very good cam for torque in the middle rpm range. Recomended to use shorty headers or long tubes. You may also need an injector upgrade at this point. With good tuning the idle will be a bit choppy, but yet still very streetable and will make for a nice daily driver with some bite. Not recomended for nitrous or Supercharger. Recomended springs are LS6 springs or 918's.

XR281HR...228/230 .571/.573 112LSA Very strong cam for a naturally asperated setup. Not recomended for a 4.8L or 5.3L. An L33 5.3L H.O. could run this cam with it's increased compression, but would require a 3200 to 3600 stall to be happy with it's results. In a 6.0L I would only recomend this for an LQ9 with it's increased compression and it could be ran with less stall due to it's cubes and compression. In an LQ9 I'd recomend long tube headers, LS6 or Fast style intake, and larger injectors. I'd recomend a 2800 to 3400 stall behind an LQ9 with this cam. Idle even tuned in perfectly will be choppy and will make for a decent daily driver as long as you aren't in heavy traffic. Not recomended for supercharger or nitrous. Recomended springs would be 918's.

XER273HR...224/230 .581/.591 114LSA Very similar power band to the XR281HR, except with a better idle and better drivability. I would not recomend this for anything smaller than a 6.0L either. Recomended to run a shorty or long tube header. Larger injectors will be needed. I'd recomend a 2600 to 3000 stall for this cam. If it is well tuned in the idle is lopey, but not unacceptable for a daily driver. This cam will also work ok with L92 style cylinder heads. It happens to be one of the cams that Livernois has chosen for it's L92 package. Will work nicely with nitrous or a blower. MP122 or bigger for Magnacharger or D1SC for Procharger. Recomended springs would be 918's or 921's.

XER281HR...232/234 .595/.598 112LSA Pretty much a cam built for no smaller than a 6.0L. If you want to run a cam like this you'll want more than the stock compression of an LQ9. I'd say no less than 10.5:1 compression. You'll also want a car intake for this rpm range. With a 6.0L you'll want a 3200 stall or higher. This cam is better suited to bigger inch such as 6.7L and bigger. Not recomended for boost or juice. Recomended springs would be 921's or Partriot Dual Gold's.

XER287HR...238/240 .605/.609 112LSA If you want to run this with a 6.0L, shoot for 11:1 compression or higher, a stall of 3600 or higher, 1 7/8 headers, and a Fast intake. This would make for a nice agressive cam in a 6.7L or bigger that can still be daily driven. More cubes of course wouldn't require as much stall. Recomended springs would be Patriot Dual Golds.

    Still updating...

  4. I have a 5.3 with a supercharger check out my pictures. 1quicktruck. I have the 373 rearend and at 60 I am at 1800rpm. With no cats ,160 stat and a knock off straight thru muffler I only get 14 and 16 miles per gal . I had a dyno tune. Everyone on this site does not like mail order tunes. I forgot I have shorty headers .

  5. I retired from American Airlines as a systems analyst back in 2004. Have had various jobs like walmart , atwoods and lowes. Working different shifts and weekends and all the stuff you have to put up with, I quit them all. Working now with enterprise driving the cars to and from different branches. Good job and easy just no money.

When you are a senior citizen the money is just not out there. I feel sorry for anybody who works at those places I mentioned. The low pay and the different hours and days off changing takes a special person to put up with all that.

  6. I ordered a set of hid from ddm in Nov and got them in about a week. Three days after the first order I ordered an extra set of bulbs which were lost by FedEx. A lot of phone calls and emails all thru Dec and then I went to pay pal and in Jan I got my bulbs. If FedEx loses your shipment , it will take 14 days for a trace and I hope that in the event my life time warranty has a failed part that I dont ever have to wait this long again.

I hope I dont get heat on this but this is a true statement and I have all the emails and dates that pay pal hit my account and dates that the part was shipped. Nov29 to Jan10 is a long time to wait. I hope this is an isolated incident. They did not charge me for the second shipment as Fedex had lost them in the first place. A second shipment was shipped but fell into a black hole somewhere. Could not trace the second shipment at all then after paypal got involved Jan 7 it was shipped again.

Maybe they will last a life time at this rate.(pun)

  7. A woman went to the doctor, beaten black and blue.

    Doctor: "What happened?"

Woman: "Doctor, I don't know what to do. Every time my husband comes home drunk he beats me to a pulp."

Doctor: "I have a real good medicine for that. When your husband comes home drunk, just take a glass of sweet tea and start swishing it in your mouth. Just swish and swish but don't swallow until he goes to bed and is asleep."

Two weeks later the woman comes back to the doctor looking fresh and reborn.

Woman: "Doctor, that was a brilliant idea! Every time my husband came home drunk, I swished with sweet tea. I swished and swished and he didn't touch me!"

Doctor: "You see how much keeping your mouth shut helps?"

    Darn good one. Keepem comin

  8. I thought about the same and I agree they will steal your truck and hose you again on the new. They buy wholesale and sell retail plus. You can bargain better with no trade. I found and old fixer upper. 1985 dodge 600 4 door sedan. 68,000 thousand miles. Clean inside and out. Three different old ladies owned it.

No rust and 3 door dings, thats all. Now for the rest of the story. Headliner has fell down and they changed oil and tires and thats about all. I bought it for 500 dollars and now have 2700 in it but it leaks oil(4cycl auto) no air or cruise but 23 to 28 miles a gallon and 65 dollars for a new tire. Regular gas and every other tank prem. Use 100% gas Truck has 86k and now sits in the garage . Take it out once a week and thats about it.

  9. Merry Christmas from Oklahoma. This is the best site on the web. I have learned so much from all of you. Lets keep up the good work and lovin our chevy trucks. I think bowtie is sic but I like him anyway. I have withdrawl pains if I cant read his jokes.

  10. I checked out your gallery. whats your setup? I see its blown....

Shortie,no cats , magnaflow 2 into one and dyno tuned. Had fast chips in tulsa. Here are some numbers after 86k miles. On a rainy day , he said numbers would be low 348,8 and torque 426. This is at the wheels on 5.3 . He said the formula was 1.2 x 348.8 to get crankshaft hp. He said I should have more on a dry day maybe 10 or so.. I saw somewhere that it is true that on a clear day and no rain you will get a higher reading but I was curious as I see that shorties are only good for 8 hp where long tubes are good for 23 hp.

Just wonder if the cats were deleted on shorties if they would post better numbers ?

  11. how do you like the 55w's? Also are you running a relay with them?

No, just what came in the mail with the kit. They are super bright. They have just a slight touch of blue but just unreal bright. The problem is the automatic on feature. Even though you can flip the switch to the left to kill you drl and the auto feature it still tries to fire the ballast which is hard on it and will shorten the life so I just turn on the brights and turn the switch to kill the drl feature and the auto then if I need lights I turn them on manually and go to the low beams.

I didnt do high and lows. Only lows, they are so bright I dont think you need anything else. I have silver star ultras in the high beams and so far no problems. The only problem is mounting the ballast. I found a slot in the metal that goes from side to side which your radiator is bolted to just behind the headlights and stuff them in there with rtv and tie raps.

I just have to remember to put the high beams on to start the truck each time.

  12. Ordered a set of 55watts and 8k bulbs from DDMtuning a couple of days ago. I installed them today and nothing. Double checked everything and both lights fail to come on. Went back to originals and no problems. I tried searching the forum for HID but could find nothing about trouble shooting. I wired in the ballast and pluged in all connections and still not even a flicker of light from either side.

I do have daytime running lights and auto on headlights. I switched to manual on and still they failed to light. This is on a 04 silverado.

  13. Yea, it is a simple drain and fill. I know you can get the oil from Magna however, a little birdy told me 75/90 synthetic gear oil is just fine. :wink2:

Good to know . Hope your right. Also which is drain and which is fill. Is the bottom torx or hex drain and top fill ? Do you how much oil it takes ?

Sorry for all the questions I just dont want to fry my magna .

  14. Very good write up. I also had the rattle in the door and window down. The 04 Silverado I have had a plastic bolt/nail mid way in the front of the panel and had torx bolt with a plastic button to hide the apperance of the bolt mid way at the back of the door panel.
