  1. I would prefer the plug in the bottom also, but I didn't even know it had a plug, so I'll take it. Might not even use it, never needed to use one before, but it's there.
  2. The pan has a sump(deep spot, like a bowl) in the front that holds about an extra quart and keeps fluid flowing better on hard launches, cornering, and off road. It accomplishes this because the filter inside has a slightly longer suction tube that reaches down into the sump, always sucking pure deep fluid. No matter what the situation, I prefer my transmission flowing as well as possible, and without air bubbles. Especially the 1-2 shift at the track for example, if that's your thing. Or towing through hills, with hard shifts on an incline. It keeps the fluid from all sloshing to the back or sides, causing the filter to intermittently suck air. The C5 Corvette takes the same transmission pan as the Silverado with 4L60E, only in the C5 it is UPGRADED with this pan and filter, servos, etc... so why not? I'm replacing the pan anyway while I have it off, the cost over oem is minimal. At $76 it is a fraction of the cost of the deeper aftermarket pans which just hold more fluid, but do nothing to always contain the fluid directly under the transmission filter suction tube. Also this is a way to get a cheap pan that holds an extra quart of fluid, even if your exhaust Y or X pipe is up too close in the back for a full width, deep pan. Along with the other benefits, even if you deem those questionable. And as I stated myself days ago in another thread... I'm sure it's overkill for my daily driver, but this is America and I want one.
  3. My vette pan and filter came in last night to swap for the stock transmission pan on the SSS. I got under the truck with it, and it's a direct fit. The exhaust Y pipe is well behind and below the added sump area. The tube on the new trans filter dips down into the sump, where there's about an extra quart of fluid that is always in place. It's a little longer than the oem filters for Silverados. Pics of the pan. It also has a drain plug added that I didn't notice when I ordered it. Didn't think to get a pic of the filter yet. It's going on tonight if all goes well.
  4. Merrrica! Haha... The fit is supposed to be the exact same, except the sump up front, away from the exhaust. Also I'm in Ohio, so the original pan has taken some weather and salt abuse under there (rusty edges). I might as well upgrade instead of just swapping it this week, since the vette pan is the same price as an oem replacement. I got it for about $70. I think our trucks would do pretty good on the curves of the autobahn compared to a Corvette, so why not. Also, the black plasti dip and B&M stickers I'll be putting on the new pan should keep the trans temps down at least 25 degrees.
  5. The pan has a sump in the front that holds an extra quart and keeps fluid flowing better on hard launches, cornering, and off road(hehe). It keeps the fluid from all sloshing to the back or sides. I'm sure it's overkill for my daily driver, but this is America and I want one. It couldn't hurt for towing through steep hills too.
  6. I ordered a filter and the Corvette C5 transmission pan with the sump, to swap in when I change the fluid and filter. Looks like a nice cheap upgrade.
  7. I got 4 new chrome oem ones on ebay 4 months ago for under a hundred bucks total.
  8. Thanks. It is a bus, but still rides like a Caddy, haha! Somewhat.. I love these model years from GM. They treat me good.
  9. Thanks for the info and opinions guys. It looks like a no brainer now, especially with 80k miles on the truck. The last 2 posts especially back up my concerns about a high mileage flush. I'll be dropping and cleaning the pan, changing filter, and then topping off with dex6 this week. I'm sure it needs it, and I just got my tune in also.
  10. I'll definitely change the filter and clean up the pan too, I'm just wondering how vital it is to exchange the other half of the old fluid that doesn't just drain. There's no problems with the fluid or the transmission, just planning for how I wanna do this. Thanks for the quick replies too!
  11. Came yesterday for the SSS. Installed it and had to do the security relearn but not the crank, so that was cool. It's running verrry strong and quick, and the Corsa has an added growl now too! I really didn't think it could sound better than it already did... but it does.
  12. Cleaned up the family bus last night, and I'm pretty proud of the shape she's in and everybody likes pics!! 03 Yukon XL SLT w/ air ride, 5.3, about 118,000 miles and runs like a champ.
  13. How important do you guys think it is to do a full transmission flush instead of just dropping the pan and changing the filter? I'd prefer to exchange all my fluid, but I don't trust any shops in the area to do a flush correctly to clear out the tc and everything. (I wouldn't trust a shop in my area to air up a tire properly) Maybe I'll do a couple pan drops over a few weeks time and keep diluting with new fluid until it's replaced the old? :-) I'd like to go to Dexron 6 anyway. What do you guys do?
  14. I read the whole story and then searched for info on the srt viper to compare the looks of the two a little, and I almost threw up in my mouth a little when I saw the first pic of the viper, after staring at that gorgeous stingray for half an hour, haha. No comparison. Only $50k new! You see you can choose the tune you run with a knob? He said the exhaust got louder when he switched to "sport"!
  15. A Transgo hd2 shift kit will beef up your new tranny some. I'd install that while you're at it, along with switching to Sonnax metal accumulator pistons for sure. And then watch your temps closely, maybe with a more accurate aftermarket gauge and cooler like Blown346 mentioned... Also, I see the point of your first sentence here. Build the transmission now based on future upgrades to the engine, etc., so that you only need to spend the time and money to upgrade the transmission this once, and hopefully that lasts you. That's how I read it, not as a boast that a tranny can be built to last forever. If someone wants to claim that, I'd like to place a large wager with them and take their truck for a test drive... when they have to come pick me up they better have the money! Haha
  16. Your new truck is sweet. The 2014s are really nice too.
  17. Yea, I'm definitely interested in how they do, I want new brakes soon.
  18. 4 High, 2nd and 3rd gear. I'd definitely do 3rd if you don't want to shift during your first pull (I wouldn't, and you might never want to). You'll get a feel for it and maybe tweak your strategy later, but that's what I'd do. Drop the air pressure in your front tires as much as you can beforehand, and get the sled rolling FAST off the rip!
  19. That's probably just the Chevy clunk. You'll get used to it. You can upgrade your rear u-joint to get rid of a little of it maybe.
