  1. Here's the forst time I grinded the covers. And you can see that they are rubbing still. I have grinded 2 more times since this pic. I can't grind anymore. I'm almost to the groove that the rubber seal sits in. post-25370-137981294891_thumb.jpgpost-25370-13798129611_thumb.jpg

in this pic, you can see where the rockers sit in the head driver side:

  2. Guys, I need help. My valve covers are killin me!! Ok, The pushrod side of the rocker arm is hitting the SIDE of the valve cover.. right at the bottom where the cover seats to the head on intake side. I have 7.5" pushrods and the geometry of the rocker is perfect. Sitting on the valve stem just like i need it to. I have grinded the side of the cover, or the "flange" as I believe its called, just about to the seal. Cant grind any more on the side of the cover. I refuse to grind on the rocker arm. I paid too much money for em. Seems like the front and back cylinders of each bank are the ones that are really hitting, however that makes sense. The valve covers are Mr. Gasket 2" aluminum. I had to buy them because the stock covers were no where close to fitting. The rockers are YellaTerra 1.8 Part# YT 6639. And ofcourse the heads are TrickFlow 225's. A valve cover spacer is not what i need. Im not having height issues. Any ideas? I did read that the part number of my rockers is for "LS1 style" engines. Shouldnt be any different right? This is the part number Zippy told me to get. IDK what to do. Its rubbing bad enough to actually see the cover moving on the head. I dont want to continue to drive it like this so its in the shed until i figure it out.

  3. Yea those amps are nice. Your head unit is stock?nope kenwood double din with navi, that was the first thing I put in the truck had it lil over yr n half and the navi hasn't let me down yet

Nice! Yea I like Kenwood. Especially their double din units. I worked at a few car audio places and everyone loves kenwood. I traded a junk postol for a Eclipse double din with nav, bluetooth, and backup camera a while back. Now granted I've never been a fan of Eclipse, I did it because the unit sells for $1600. Should have followed my instinct because i think Jensen makes a better unit than this Eclipse. I went to school in orlando and got certified through the mobile electronics installation certification program a while back and I have sworn by pioneers units since then, but man, pioneer is getting cheapo with the new head units.
  4. Ok on the first part, you've got a lot of time inferred with zippy, I understand that.

The second part, I have no idea who you spoke with, but they have lost there mind. A $600-700 tune? NEVER!

You might as well buy HPT and datalog. Unless you get a dyno tune.

the price I got was $480 just to do the "5 min job" of tuning my idle. I think not lol. Zippy will do it for free being as he did my tune. I'm not sure where they have an AWD dyno. I heard that nola motorsports had one but can't ever get em on the phone

  5. The only local guy I know of is Geoff in Baton Rouge. Zippy has done my tune for my build, and also tuned my truck before my build. I've spent countless hours on the phone, email, txting with him. He has been more than helpful. I'd love to go local... but I'm not paying somebody the same amount of money for a tune, as the cost of hptuners.. local or not. Ill get HPtuners, data log, and send to zippy. I won't say how much, but I was told just to tune my idle, touch nothing else, just idle, was more that hp tuners would cost me to buy. And he raved how he could fix it in 5 minutes. Yea local is great, but making appt., trailering the truck, all that bs, just to spend a butt load of money, not worth it imo.

  6. So are you happy after all your hard work?
to be honest, the most pleasure I've got out of it yet is the sound. People coming up to me at the gas station asking about it. I won't be able to tell what I have until I get converter and trans. Its honestly not much more spiffy than stock as of now. Higher rpm there's a noticeable difference, but low end, she's still the same.
  7. Found a VERY VERY SMALL vaccum leak where the fuel pressure regulator tubes to the manifold. Fixed that, didn't do much for idle for it was sooo little. I did drive it last night. Its running good, just need trans and stall now. Coming soon!

  8. Ok, so got my computer back from zippy for the 3nd time since the build. Working on idle stuff. Idles good until I put it in gear and take off, it will hold itself at 60mph on hwy. Zippy retuned it once and not quite right yet. That's what I'm working on. I've yet to drive it.

  9. Well, its all back together and running pretty good. I got another throttle body from tpis, finally one that works. I've got to send my tune back to zippy. Gotta work on my idle. Idle is iradic and tries to drive itself. And an AWD vehicle is really hard to stop when its in gear and holding itself at 3k rpm lol. It really isnt as fast as I thought it would be. Not even close. The power is late in the rpm range. It honestly doesn't have much more power in the bottom end than it did before. It is noticeably different in mid and top end but no where near what I thought it would be. Mayne ots my transmission who knows. Thays an update for now. Havent really put any miles on it. Gotta get my tune back then ill update again.
