  1. Hey guys, So my Black Bear tuned PCM arrived today. Install of the PCM was easy enough. That security relearn is a PITA though. Anyway I took it for a spin and I'm impressed. Its not quite the night and day description I've been hearing but its good enough. If nothing else theres a very noticeable difference in shift firmness. I'll see what happens at the track in a week or so.

  2. Why do you need single's? You can run a di/do, and I believe the mangnaflows have a built in X incase you don't have a crosspipe.

Thats just the set up it has now. Two very small flomaster super 10's. So yeah i guess your right. Now, would having both pipes into one muffler make any more BP than individual mufflers?

  3. Yes but its my own fault for the most part. Its mounted under the cab with side exit before the rear wheel.

I had a Magnaflow for a few years. Loved the way it sounded with the stock tail pipe but the packing blew out in less than a year. Then dumped it and it was obnoxious

Well, mine dual exits to the bed so I would like to think drone would be an issue, especially since I already have a resonator. Ive heard about MF blowing the packing out before, is there an issue with this on MF mufflers? Has anyone else had that happen? Thanks for the reply sinr98

  4. Dual in out magnaflow here hands down better than Flowcrappers. Dumped sounds great get compliments prob 5 days a week.

I agree, I've had Magnaflow on almost all my vehicles. Whoever had the SS before me must of liked it stupid loud. I had some resonators installed last week and that did quiet it up a little. It's just not quiet enough for me to enjoy highway driving. That and if I can gain a little hp while making it quieter why-not.

  5. Hey guys,

I'm starting to get tired of the Flowmaster Super 10's drone on the highway so I wanted to know what you all are running. Weirdly enough while researching mufflers I came across several forums that showed guys gaining a little power switching from a flowmaster muffler to a magnaflow. Would anyone else agree with that? I know that magnaflows are strait flow through mufflers vs the baffled flowmasters but I don't know if that would make enough of a difference. Thoughts?

  6. You need to connect the autocal to your truck, then the pc, start the software, the connect the software to the truck... Then go to validate pids. The software will communicate with the onboard modules and validate the pids that are available. If after doing that they still don't show up, then they never where supported on the ls1 pcm

Thank you. I was able to get it to work today though there were 2 pids that said they weren't valid. I emailed to BB. I hope I got everything they needed. :uhoh:

  7. Hi, as of today i cant seem to make any posts or threads. I attempted to make a thread for my BB question and got an internal server error. Then i adding to one of my previous posts and after i click on "post" in the lower right corner it just states "saving post". But it never completes. Is there an issue with the forum today?

    Thanks

How i just made this one i do not know..

  8. Using tow/haul mode can be beneficial at the track if you have the shift points bumped up in that part of the table.

I don't just yet. but i am getting tuned by BB (whenever they get me the scan cable). Im curious if they'll program that in?

I've used tailgate down or off. Not a significant difference IMO.

None? Not in 1/4 time or speed? I kind of figured that over 75mph there would start to be some serious drag with the gate up.

  9. The re-tune issue is a good question to have, but that is about 20% of what you need to do. Check with people who have had that person tune their truck and ask how they like the tuning. Not only ask them though, see how well their car runs for yourself. I've watched people at car shows brag about their tuner all the while their cars stall, surge, have a hard time starting, and run much slower than expected at the track. As for re-tune policy that is another big issue at hand. Many of the tuners claim to have free re-tunes and then suddenly you can't get them to return your calls or have the dyno charge issue. I had a shop I worked for that said you get free re-tunes, but his way of making them free was that the tuning was free, but you paid for dyno time for the re-tune. Not exactly free. Paying for a re-tune is something you should expect to do. Experience in the field is a big deal, but once again not that big. I frequently fix people's tuning for shops that have been around for 15-20 years. My recommendation on mail order or dyno. For mail order check around to see who's car/truck runs a good number for it's mods to start with. You also want to ask the customer themselves if they are happy with the tune completely and not just a cover up because they like that person. For dyno tuning ask around town and check out their work at car shows, drag strip, their own shop, etc. If they are really good you'll even get other shops that will simply say that tuner xxx is really good even if they don't work with them. Look into that tuners more custom work even if you don't have it or need it. The tuners who say I can do bolt on cars or xxx and xxx, but not xxx, or xxx aren't tuners. If you find a tuner who can't do 1 bar sd, 2 bar sd, 3 bar sd, big cam, small cam, virtual v.e., etc then you are a novice tuner and not a real tuner. I've personally tuned using 28 different software types over the years including Honda, Nissan, Toyota, Dodge, Ford, GM, etc, etc, etc. I'm not trying to sell you on me by any means. Just giving people out there info to go on when looking for your tuner whether local or not. There are a small number of good tuners out there and thousands of hacks. The re-tune thing alone is something that has gained me alot of business though I will say. I charge for re-tunes and tell that to my customers up front. There are a good number of tuners who tell you it's free and then suddenly they won't answer your calls or e-mails because free doesn't pay the bills.

Thank you for the information Zippy. All that research is great but it would take me awhile to try to find the people this guys tuned and work all that out. Ive heard nothing but good things from Black Bear and after thinking it through I'm going to have them do my tune. I hope when its all said and done I can be one of those guys saying " Night and Day difference" :pepsicheer:

  10. When I talked with them on the phone and told him I just needed a tune done he told me the price. I asked when he could do it and he wouldn't give me a straight answer other than not any of the days I asked about. Said it was best to call and schedule it. Umm thats what I was trying to do thats why I called.

:wtf: When you talked with who??
