  1. I should have done that I agree, but none the less it has calmed down a bunch.
  2. Drop in, but you want to run the caddy seriers lifter, I will end up buying those soon.
  3. I did not check the PR length or valve lash only because the motor was running fine prior to me tearing it down. I have just never heard it run until now. I did buy it from a guy who had it built by Gomer and that man knows how to build LS engines. Just curious about all the noise.
  4. I got my 408 put back together and while it is much better as far as valve train noise with the new LS7 lifters.............its still loud. The whole motor just makes more noise then I would think. So my question is, compared to stock 6.0 how much valve train and just engine noise period should this thing be making. I have patriot stg 2 heads with the dual springs, bigger push rods, stock rockers, new LS7 lifters. I went over everything and it is all done perfect. BTW with new lifters does it take some time for them to pump up and quit down? WHen I first started it things did not sound good at all, but after about 3-4 minutes it calmed down.
  5. well I should have a new lifter kit waiting for me at the dealer today, not bad $105. All the ls lifters have been superceeded by the ls7 style lifter..or thats what I was told be SCD. I will replace that oring tonight, Im running out of things to replace
  6. The motor is all forged and it is used but guys I know that the guy that I bought it from and the builder would not sell me anything less then perfect. My hope right now are a bad o-ring. This noise I speak of at start up is bad and sounds very valve train bad but hey its all looking good.
  7. all the push rods were tight but not too tight, none had bends, all springs look good, the only thing that I have found so far is the one tight lifter. I was using the stock lifters. I will have to give it a good look over one more time before I tear the oil pan off.
  8. I have had a very bad valve train noise at start up and then it goes away after 3-5 seconds, but even then I get some pretty heavy valve train noise. I took the heads off and one of the lifters did not comeout with the tray, as I went to take it out it was stuck in the lifter bore, I had to use pliers to pull it out. Could that thing have been stuck in there and only when it finally pumps up it will move? What do you guys think?
  9. HMMM where have I seen those pic's before
  10. I think they are damn nice. But then again I just bought an 07.

    F**K

Well I guess we both felt the Vortech/stock bottem blues. Your are still trucking with the T-trim, thats good. I just went bigger and spray. Get us some pics those are always good for the guys not running any tunning software to see.
  12. Are you serious when you say that bolting up a set of long tubes is a PITA???? I guess people see things in different light. I think its cake, these trucks have tons of room to work with.
  13. Another thing that would help is posting it where it should be posted.
  14. Im installing a PIONEER AVIC-D1 in my new 07 Trailblazer SS. Can you guys let me know what I need to install this. I have the Bose, onstar and XM. I know there are some adapters or something to keep all my other features. Thanks guys
  15. Maybe just maybe I put in my push rods out of my old motor, and all the while Tony had longer push rods in the motor due to the decking of the block and the cam he has in it. So this would mean the push rods I am running are a tad too short and cause so much noise under normal conditions and really loud at start up. Ok so whats the best way to see if my push rods are too short. I guess I could pull one of them and grab one thats laying on my work bench.
  16. Well I want to say first, thanks so much for the help guys. One thing to note about this motor. This motor is Tony's (2bseen) old motor, which was a long block, that I bought from him when he put in the 427. I know that Tony and Scott would not send me a crap motor, so Im not about to question that. What I did do was take the heads and the oil pan off of the motor before I installed it into my truck. I wanted to check everything out before I installed. I cleaned the heads up and the tops of the pistons. I then installed new ARP head bolts and reinstalled the valve train. Everything was torqued to the specs in the book except for the head bolts. This called for a one time torque, instead of that torque to yeld crap, or atleast thats what ARP box said. So when I first fired the motor up it would only run for about 15 seconds due to the codes I was getting with the TB and it would starve it self of fuel and sound really bad as it tried to idle at 300rpm. I finally drove it (baby steps) and when I went to start it back up thats when the really bad start up noise came about. If Mr.P is telling me not to worry about the bottem end then I will just pull those damn heads. I know that the bottom is solid, its all forged and proven, but me reinstalling the top end may have caused something to go wrong.
  17. My 408 is cursed!!!!!! HELP! -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ok so I dropped in the 408, and as you guys know I had electrical problems for over a month, thats done now. Here is the problem. LOUD vlave train now. On start up from a cold motor it is making a really bad sound and it does not sound good at all. After about 3 seconds and a little gas it goes away. But then even when the engine is warm Im getting a noisy valve train. Im running nothing crazy Patriot stage 2 LS6 heads with dual springs, stock lifters and stock length push rods, stock rockers. Here is what Im thinking, bad oil pick up tube O-ring??? Or dead lifter? The O-ring was the only gasket that I had to re-use on the entire motor and Im worried about it. I get 38-40psi oil press. at idle and a slow increase of 55-60 with a stab at the pedal. Im going to take the heads back off this weekend and also drop the front dif. and oil pan. Where would you guys start. BTW if this thing was running I would sell it so fast, Im sick of it!
  18. guess you got some cash laying around burning a whole in your pocket!
  19. You need the starter off so you can wedge something in there for the monster torque on that bolt later. You will see what I mean, it needs to be off trust the source. If you throw that damn clutch fan as far as you can and buy yourself some e/fans. If you have not done so get some pen magnets for your lifters now before its too late.
  20. I think Im going to pull the heads back off and maybe the pan also. I wanted to wait and talk with gomer (the man who built the motor) after the new year. This is such a HUGE bummer for me, this truck has been down for 9 months now. BTW I have 40psi at idle and 60 during small revs, good fuel press, the only thing that needs changed is the plug gap TR55 at .35 need to be re-gapped to 55
  21. Hey Kevin Merry Christmas back at ya, what a nice day here in Pa considering. Thanks for the input on the idle AFR. My real concern is the noise the motor is making under cold start up, Im starting to wonder if I have a pinched oil pick o-ring? It is really bad at start up and then its just flat out noisy during the rest of the time. I really wish someone with more knowledge then myself could listen to it. Put it this way I don't feel good starting it!
  22. I need a moderator to contact me about this posting!
  23. Chase I just noticed something, your damn posting whore!!!!! I can not believe the amount of posts that you have............. just had to bring that crap up
  24. Well I drove it home tow night ago now. It has been sitting at my other house in NJ for almost eight months. You want to talk about scary knowing that its lean and making a hour long drive on a new motor, oh well. It was showing 15.1 at idle and it stayed between 14.7 to 16.5 on the drive home. However when I go tinto it just a little coming onto the freeway I would say about 5K rpm it must have gone into to PE cause it dipped way down to 10.8 The entire tune is very rough right now until Gomer can get in touch with me. BTW I just scaled the entire VE up by 17 to get it as rich as it was. My only real concern with the motor right now is the noise it is producing, I hope its all valve train and maybe just needs some lifter preload or a small amount of slop. Im so used to hearing a blower whine that now I can hear all the small stuff!!!
  25. Funny this many people on this site and nobody can offer a little help. Its not like Im a FNG with a ton of posts about useless shit, check the join date. Come on guys a little help.
