  1. I don't think you're going to get headers and a cam within your budget, UNLESS you're doing the labor yourself. Long tube headers (go ahead and go with 1 7/8"), electric fans, and a tune. Make sure all is sound mechanically before you start the mods. I had to do a front diff at 98K miles! Welcome to the money pit! LOL!

  3. Sorry to say it, but I think you toasted your trans...... Rebuild again or replace. Every shop out there will jump on this because its "gravy" for them (lots of cheap parts, easy for them to fix, most any repair will last the warranty period). Now getting good, upgraded repair (better parts and assembly) is a whole different story. I have a few trans guys, locally, that will shot straight with me. In Atlanta, I'd call Rob Walden at Lamar Walden Automotive, (770) 449-0315. He's an mainly a performance engine guy, but may tackle the job or refer you to a pro that will do the job right. Let me know. May have a couple of more contacts in the area.

  5. After a lot of research, I've found the adjusting tabs break and the bearing clearances get all wacky. Rebuild with all new races, bearings, seals will usually fix them (ring/pinions are usually reusable). I found a low mile one out of a Sierra Denali and swapped it out on the floor of my garage (about 1 hours work). I have the noisy one one and a $110.00 rebuild set ready to go on the table. I'll probably have a big truck hired help with preloads and crush sleeve preload, as he is set-up for high torque settings (vs just impacting till its "close"!). I still have to procure new locking tabs and checking out "tips" for the tabs not breaking/backing-off. Look at some videos, doesn't look that difficult.
  6. Really low miles! A little high on price. I would have to inspect for rust, being that far north. All the "accessories" can be easily "de-accessorized"! Yes, it's a bit gaudy. If it doesn't have rust, this is a real find.
  7. We have about 20 GM full size trucks in the work fleet. VERY few problems out of them. Most go to 300K mi. with no issues (that's usually when we start thinking about trading). I've put 337K on the last one '07 2500HD Classic Dmax, and 458K on the 04.5 before it. One water pump on each, a set of u-joints, one injector wiring pigtail, some suspension pieces after 250K. No other issues. They're a great piece of equipment. I've been in Dodge Diesels the last 22 years, now I'm rockin' an SSS. Not as fast as my diesels, or nearly as good on fuel, but slick, quiet and comfortable. I AM getting old! :-)
  8. My '13 work truck 2500HD 6.0 has 259K mi now. Not a drop of oil between 5,000 mi. changes. It gets a lot of highway miles, as well as a bunch of HEAVY towing miles (cruise on, trans kicking down on every hill!). Engine hasn't missed a beat. One of the service 6.0's has over 300K (lots of drivers, zero pampering).
  9. You're not going to hurt the 6.0.
  10. When that many mods are done, usually a tune is done too. A reputable tuner will be able to let you know the state of your tune when they look at the parameters. May need one, may not, may just need "touching-up". If it runs good, shifts good (firm) and the converter doesn't engage and unlock all the time, it's probably been previously tuned.
  11. I wish I'd have known earlier. I want one for a "spare", just to have in case I need it. Local guy sold all 4 for $500.00 last week. They were original with repo covers, nice shape. I just couldn't see spending that much for one wheel. We could have split them up. I'll keep my eyes open.
  12. Local guy did it. He tuned the wife's Camaro SS when I installed headers a couple of years back. He's not in the business of tuning, just does it for friends. He does really good work. I'm going to drive it some more today. Feel so much better. Even with some torque management, it will still chirp all four in 2nd and 3rd!
  13. Got the SSS custom tuned today. It was my Father's Day present! Very responsive, converter stays locked, shifts firmed-up. Nice modification, even for a stone stock truck.
  14. I looked two months to find mine. The really good ones are out there, and priced accordingly. I drove 700 miles (one way) to get it. So worth it!

  16. If it's low on fuel, my vote is to drop the tank. I did my son's Suburban by myself a few months ago. Not too bad of a job.
  17. Mine are at 35 all the way around. Never had one of these trucks before, so I'm no expert on how they should act. Mine seems a little "loose" in the rear end on bumpy roads. May just be the nature of the beast.

  21. There will be more noise. The thin tubes transmit more noise than their thick-walled, iron counterparts. However, it shouldn't be loud.
