  1. I love this site. I took some advice from this site to remove the pulley from the V-2 and put it onto the V-1 and am back in business. A cheap $5.00 pulley puller and a small torch was all that was needed. I almost bought a $150 pulley remover! The V-1 is running better and harder than the V-2. Shifts are cleaner, etc. I thought when Chase said it was in need of a rebuild that it would remain a paperweight. Now I can ship out the V-2 and once it gets back ship the V-1 out. So good news story for this weekend. Thanks for everyones help on the threads!
  2. Thanks , I am trying to swap the pulleys right now and it is a bitch. No worries it will get fixed.
  3. Thanks, SS SILV. Its been an all around rough week. Chase, oil feed were good. It was always running a little loud. Finally, got it tuned in and it was awesome. Stayed at the Austin Airport for about a week ran great for about 35 miles and sounded like my fans went into hyperdrive and then the sounds of grinding. I still have the V1 T-Trim but never got it serviced. Are you suggesting I try it for the few days until the V2 is back? I actually never thought of that. The exchange would only take a few minutes. Thanks, I will try that.
  4. I knew that would get your attention. My truck's supercharger. I was driving back from Austin, TX after returning from my Dad's Funeral last Thursday in Indiana and I heard a godawful noise coming from the engine. A few miles later a drop in power and more grinding. Got it home and pulled the compressor and to my surprise I sheared nearly ever fin on the "impeller"- I think that's what you call it. So my Vortech V2 is off to Vortech for a fix, I hope. What would make a closed system grind apart like that? I know I was taking my chances with a used system but thought I was being careful.
  5. Dammit, I just bought mine last week and I am right up the road. Good luck with the sale.
  6. These are cute dogs...but they look like snacks for Sprayed99 dogs.
  7. I agree completely with you. With over 21 years under my Army belt it angers me greatly to see this happen, I retired in 2007 as an E-8. In 2005, in preparation for my second and last tour to Iraq we were in JRTC (FT Polk, La) and one of our old soldier (E-4 actually) came to us "after jumping into North Iraq." Had the combat jump on his jump wings to prove it, we fellow paratroopers were very jealous-even though it was a secure LZ. He wore these wings for nearly two years before he was met by an Army advisor (an E-6) that rode the same aircraft with him...all the way to the ground. He never jumped with the paratroopers. I and this SSG nearly killed him. All he got was an Article 15 (45 days extra duty, restiction and we took some pay from him...that was it!). They took away his wings as well. Freaking pitiful if you ask me. Thanks for the link. I have forwarded it to my work for inspiration. Thanks again for your service. I know you do not hear it enough.
  8. Well, I have not had many dumbass questions but one was if my 2005 SS was an imposter and I said what is it supposed to be? I was offended and asked are there many imposters here in Central Texas? Our course I was in a performance shop surrounded by mustangs and his dually chevy had SS badging??? WTF! We are good now though but it was funny.
  9. There are ignition kill switches. I had mine installed by the dealer and hardly anyone can figure it out. Oil change places, car washes, friends, etc. To include my wife shopping in 2005. As I looked at my phone and saw 11 voice messages to that effect. Humorous then but a necessity now. Sorry for your loss man.
  10. Sorry that I have not gotten on here earlier. I am one of the SSS at Fort Hood. I think there are about 6-7 of us. However, as some may remember I am a retired Army 1SG but more importantly I am a criminal intelligence analyst for CID now. I have worked nearly everyday since the massacre. All with the help of the FBI and Texas Rangers whom have interviewed hundreds and hundreds of witnesses and persons of interest. This is what happens when you shake trees. Having logged nearly 80 hours of overtime my task was to find out all I could on the shooter. I was personally involved in debunking the misconception of multiple shooters, that the shooter was dead, and that the female cop had been killed or was the only cop to bring this guy down. What an ordeal and the drama involved. I watch the memorial service from my office across the street when the President was welcomed as if he were a Rock Star. Since then we have been looking into the shooters background, shaking trees and waiting for shit to fall out. We have also had to deal with people (officer) that was there and felt his duty to be the first to explain (with a fair amount of embellishment) the activities of that afternoon in blazing detail-while it was an active crime scene-freaking idiot that will get away with it because he is an officer. Most may get his email thread titled "what happened." Or the photographers that decided to rush "into battle" to record the story when they could have honored the fallen and grieviously wounded by picking up a litter, field dressing or assisting the wounded like hundreds of soldiers did. No, these assholes (one retired Marine in particular) decided to defy local law enforcement and get his ass thrown into the back of a cop car. Further providing fire for mass media to believe he was a secondary shooter. He was shooting alright! His freaking camera and his big mouth. Can you imagine an injured person who saved a handful of soldiers finally succumbing to her wounds trying to maintain some sense of dignity in the face of a camera and that camera man having the audacity to scream "Who the F**k are you to order me around?" Soon there after an uninjured SGT decked him...Good for him! I have regained my hatred of media personnel. This whole time I have been analyzing statements from victims, witnesses and spectators. It is a horrible task to read into the minds of soldiers watching helplessly as their friends, leaders, and fellow soldiers are slaughtered by a member in uniform. However, ever statement no matter how vague or vivid tells a story. His patterns and methods dance in my head continuously. You will notice I will not say his name, nor that he was ever one of us. It enrages me that he was babied by his leaders and teachers, whether because of his religion or our lack of manpower, who knows. We are piecing together what happened based on 100s of statement. This takes far longer than a mere CSI show, and is far more exhausting. Thanks for allowing me to share.
  11. Thought I would jump back in here and give you all an update. I finally had Sunshine Performance do a tune on my truck and he talked me into a HP TUNE (which he placed into my 7193) got it back a few hours later and it was all better. He gave me a "street tune" and invited me back a few weeks later to do some WOT tuning. So he told me to keep it under WOT until then. Well in the last week I missed that appointment and because of the weather have noticed a rough idle at low rpm. It also shifts bone jarringly firm at 3000-4000 rpms. The spark advance normally around 30-39 drops to around 6-19, this in turn makes the truck unpredicatably rough and from time to time dies. While in the 2000-3000 rpm it is fine but still feels a surge/or miss from time to time. I have purchased the LC1 and XD16 but have not installed it yet. Am scheduled to see him this week. What are some of the questions I should ask him, the obvious ones that come to mind are: 1) why the rough idle at low rpm-is it normal 2) why am I throwing a MAF code, with a clean/oiled filter, tight fittings and no vacuum/pcv leaks? 3) and when will I be about to see the huge gains I thought I would. I can feel the torque and speed but am a little hesitant to get on it. Any help from you guys would be awesome. Lastly, what do you all in cold weather areas use to keep your icebox/heat exchanger from freezing in the lines.
  12. I agree with you Chase. However, there are many SSS's here that have posted mucho mods and awesome track times that are heavy ass SSS's. At what point does the SS (that could weigh 100's of lbs less) stop being seen as a local driver, heavy hauler, etc. Is a prostock modded and lightened drag truck SS any different than the thousands of street modded ones? Of course, the real question will be when this guy posts times that could beat yours does that make your SS accomplishments less significant of a feat? There I go playing devil's advocate again. LOL.
  13. Welcome to the site. I, too, got my SS about a month before my 2005-06 tour to Iraq. There was nothing better than seeing that truck a year later and it was still really new. Stay safe. I was a MiTT 1SG trainer while there so understand what you may be going through with those Police types. I hope things stay stable for you guys.
  14. I was trying to stick to basics. You are right, you gave me alot of extras. I still have the Crank dampener to install, and the air intake with the Max Airflow regulator, etc. You are right about the vacuum pump, I removed it and attempted to install where instructed but the fuse box gets in the way. That said the 180 pipe binds on the brake lines so I had to get real creative with the airway. under the SC is the PCM computer further restrict clear access in that direction. I will try the air intake pipe. I noticed in one of your photos that you have a breather attached and not attached to the 180 degree pipe. Can I run this the same way? Also should I use the silver idler wheel you had? The black plastic one makes a funny ticking noise. Everything else is GTG. Other than that I have SES lights and every now and then my battery warning light and "Service Charging System" warning come on. It might be where I have the negative lead from the truck grounded about 20 feet from the battery that is in the back of the truck. Soon to be moved into that tray area. Another thought, I think it has something to do with the way I wired the heat exchanger and the water pump. I ran a switch inside the truck and every time I flip it on I see a sizable dive on the voltage meter. Thanks again for everything.
  15. Well here is a picture of the engine. Dreary day will get her cleaned up later. Thanks again for the help.
  16. Take McMahan up on the offer..He will have to drive about 1900 miles to get at you??? ha ha ha. Welcome back brother.
  17. Thanks for the PM reference changing the oil. I noticed the engine was running way hot. I checked the oil and it "sheeted" off the dipstick and smell like...you guessed it gasoline. I freaked, went to get some Mobil one and changed the oil. I put 5 qts of royal purple in and got about 6 qts of a gasoline/oil mixture that looked like 2:1 ratio black water. Fortunately I only ran the engine that way for a few miles so I do not think I damaged anything. It never leaked out of the gaskets nor did it leak into the coolant. Beforehand I was hearing engine parts and the supercharger, afterward silence (okay maybe a little idler noise). I have not had it in boost. We have a Diablo CMR local here in Killeen, TX so I will seek him out this afternoon. Only funny thing that has happened since is my AC now blows cold air on the passenger side and scolding hot air on the driver side. Thanks again.
  18. IT IS ALIVE, ALIVE, ALIVE (BROOOHAAAHHAAA)!!!!!. Everyones advice throughout this site was right on the money....I just had to ask the right questions. I think I will produce a lessons learned for those interested in putting an older Vortech into the 05 AWD (not recommended for the novice). I know I am one. Some modifications were necessary. Last night the battery died trying to start it on the old tune. So I went and got a Yellow Top Optima this morning from Autozone. That and the new calculations and I was up. I can now relocate the "relocated" battery from the truck bed to the HD tray, my other battery would not fit. The old tune was currently set for -2% injector slope and I was only able to take it to the tuner max of 100%. I thought I needed around 150% but actually with some research I needed (60-28)/28*100= 114%. This is different from last night. This 114% is much closer to what is actually running in the vehicle. Found a lose vacuum line as well so I went pass. valve cover to air intake directly over the manifold. It sounds much better, its quiet until you get on it. I am excited. My wife is relieved and wants to jump on my excitement bus and drive it.... Thanks again everyone. You all ROCK.
  19. Okay, so after an hour's more research I figured out my stock injectors were 25.7 so we will say 26. However, I have seen 24's on some threads. So if the math is correct that is (65-26)/26*100 or a slope* 150 increase. That is definitely way off what was programmed into it. Thanks again. I will check this thread first thing in the morning before I go out to rescue her. I have not played with the DiabloSport Predator at all...wanted to get the truck rolling first. Thanks, again.
  20. Wow, and I thought this beast was going to be plug and play. LOL. I am using the OEM MAF still. The only difference is I am using the IAT wires from the MAF for the IAT on the Intake tube before the TB. Everything you and CHASE wrote was right on. Your description of the injector flow rate makes perfect sense. I was able to drive it about a 1/4 mile before it died. Luckily it is at a buddies house. I will give Justin a call Monday. Thanks again for your help. I am also using Granitelli spark plug wires and Bosch Platinum +4 plugs and thought that might be the problem. Were you the Mr. P from Stephenville, TX I met on here a few years back? I graduated from Tarleton State down here in Killeen, TX in 2001 a few years before I retired. If so thanks again for your help. Thanks Chase. That and Mr. P's post are making better sense.
  21. Thought I would put this one out to the masses. In short, I recently installed a Vortech SC that is a few years old. In the process of this d-i-y (see my build thread for the drama) I was able to get it started and at higher rpm, black smoke clears out of the pipes but at idle nearly dies. Thought if I took it around the corner it would run better. When at running temp (hot) it dies and now will not start. I was having EVAP and Misfire codes; every now and then I would get a charging system warning. Could the truck run at higher rpms with an incorrectly wired 255 lph fuel pump? the 60 lb injectors were wired correctly (about the easiest thing I did). I think I am pouring fuel into the cylinders because I just went through about 10 gallons in about 30 minutes of test fires. Everything seems to be wired right but the truck doesn't seem to want to relearn idle. I have tried every tune on the Diablo tuner. Are there any ideas out there. My wife has jokingly threatened to haul the truck off and buy me the Camaro that I wanted..but I feel there is still life in that truck. Please help... Also anyone around the Killeen, TX (Fort Hood) area that knows a great HP mechanic. Sunshine performance continually has a backlog of two weeks. Thanks in advance.
  22. Among my many issues right now with the newly installed Vortech: wont idle, runs extremely rough with WOT, runs rich, with black/gray smoke rolling out the pipes I think you answered one of my questions. Chase04 informed me where to put the open element IAT sensor (actually there is a hole in the intake for it that I missed). In relation to this topic, I purchased a PCV that would fit, but did not actually know if it was the right one. Do I just go to Autozone and ask for a 2000 Silverado PCV for a 6.0 or does it not matter? This site is great for all the knowledge you all so willingly pass on. TIA.
  23. Thanks, Chase. I was just finishing some research and saw another post where you mentioned the IAT location. As for the EVAP, I will look into it. It was just weird that it ran fine but rough when I was testing the engine when the Air intake was hooked up in its original configuration. However, with the ice box in the way it was kind of snorkled above it just to see if it would run. Then I would modify. It ran choppy but now it is crazy and it wont even idle. I have seen plenty of threads on this site tonight where it might be a wiring issue when I relocated the MAF. idle relearn, etc. If memory serves most of the wires were 18 gauge except for two they were 14 and 12 (power and ground respectively). I wanted to keep the extension in different colors. Could that have also confused the PCM?
  24. I recently purchased a Vortech from a legitimate member of this site. I will tell you I like the system but should have done my homework. Fuel Pump, injectors, special tools, all ran me well over $700 more. I still got a good deal but the time it took for me to install (four weekends and counting) also has money attached to it. SO do your homework. Someone on this site nows the guy selling and should vouch for him, just ask around. The person I bought from was well known and respected...that goes a long way in sales on this site. Buy from who you know...Good luck.
  25. Okay guys, thanks for the advice and encouragement...now I need help. When I tested the engine before I put the oil drain line in it ran rough, but it ran for about 3-4 minutes. I did not have the MAF routed to the drivers side yet, I did not have the PCV inplace, I did not have the IAT sensor in place but it still started, ran but was real choppy like I had an air way problem. Flashforward two weeks, everything is in place, except the IAT sensor (trying to figure out where it goes). However, today with the new PCV in place all the airway intact, oil line in, everything done. The engine almost did not start, black/dark gray smoke came blowing out of the pipes, and it runs more rough now (when it runs), and only when I have the throttle on. I tried to reprogram it but to no avail. Only trouble code is the EVAP code but I am sure I plugged the EVAP module on top of the tank...I must have because it ran better during the test run a few weeks ago. I think I am running very rich, I smell fuel everywhere (as do my neighbors) but I have no leaks Questions one could I have the wrong PCV? would this do it? Is the lack of an open element IAT sensor the culprit? My MAF is running fine, I guess. Any help would be great. TIA, Mark
