  1. Hello all, it has been a long time since last I had the time to get on these boards. My wife, whom returned from Iraq in 2006, has since returned but went back to Iraq with a bang. As a semi finalist in "Teleflora's America's Favorite Mom" sponsored by NBC, Redbook, and USAA. Of the 15,000 online entrants, my wife CPT Rosanna V. Brown was select in the top 15, and one of three military moms. She was one of two whom are currently deployed to OIF. The other was in Kuwait, Rosanna is in Baghdad...AGAIN. For those interested access these links, you will see my wife, my daughter [who may have a career in movies] and me [and the reason I will not]. Especially look at the nominee videos they are pretty good and justly timed for mother's day. Did anyone know that it is Mother's Day's 100th birthday. I didn't before this. www.americasfavoritemom.com www.kwtx.com/forthood She is a great officer, medical provider and mothers. She is incredible and I should have shared this with brother and sister SS owners. Voting is over and we are waiting for word if she goes to Los Angeles for the final. Actually she would be doing this live via satellite in Baghdad and we will be going if all goes well. Support your local Soldiers, Marines, Airmen, and Sailors. Mark 1SG®
  2. Bluess24, Sorry, for not posting earlier, just getting settled in. We closed on a nice house in Skipcha Mountain (HH,TX). I have seen a few SSS here but no Silver Birch 05s. We will definitely have to hook up some weekend. I notice there are alot of GTG for other car clubs (Pansy-ass imports).
  3. I know there are more military retirees besides me, right? I spent almost 22 years in the Army, although a tactical Mil Intelligence guy, I spent my entire career in Tactical divisions: Two combat tours to Iraq, one to Kuwait (babysitting the Iraqi border before/during the Tower Attacks), one combat tour to Panama, three tours to Korea, and one nice assignment to Germany (babysitting the East German border with Scouts-during the Cold War). I have served with the 101st Air Assault, 82d Airborne (there is a difference), 7th ID (light), 4th ID (Mech), 3rd ID, 2nd ID, 2 AD, and the 3rd ACR (yes, I have definitely been around). My wife is an Active duty LT (P) about to be a CPT (Physician Assistant) we are now here in Central Texas; she has 12 years in. Her brother is a SFC, flight medic with 14 years in, and her other brother is a CPT in Ordnance. What a family of military service members all having served in Iraq or Afghanistan. I am still getting used to retirement, currently finishing my Ph.D in Organization Management-Leadership. To be able to have an input in future leaders of our Great Country. I salute all whom still serve. I have served and always will. Air Assault!!
  4. Mr. P, I have been enjoying this dialogue and have a few points about lasers. Someone else said that lasers can be false, technically this would be impossible because a laser/radar detectors has a monitor window that is triggered by a laser-which is high freq light spectrum emissions (and not the pocket lasers ITer love-LOL). I have been hit by Lasers three times in the last 9 months (once in GA and twice in TN) and saw the instigator each time. I may be wrong. The last time I got hit, I was passing a metro bus and the copper hit me just before turning off at the TKD place my little girl went to. I was able to fight it because he wrote that I was going 69 miles an hour, within 50 meters of my turn into the parking lot. Impossible for me to be going that speed and making the turn. So yes, Lasers work but I do not know the accuracy vis. speed.
  5. The cleansweep saga conclusion. After about six weeks of trying to install my JL Audio speakers and Cleansweep (see sig). I took the truck to Audio Specialists of Hopkinsville, Kentucky for a complete reinstall. They liked the fact that I modified the rear seat to drop and attached the 300/4 to the rear wall. The installed the Cleansweep on the hump between the Stealthbox and 500/1. The trick that I could not figure out was getting a Sub feed out of the four channels going into the Cleansweep. Their fix as to "Y cable" the rear channel so full range goes to rear speakers through the 300/4 and LP goes to 500/1. Can you say fricking awesome? I attempted everything from preamping the 500/1 through the 300/4, no deal. Also after installing the panasonic DVD player it was hooked through the Cleansweep aux input (same as you would with an IPOD) and DVDs sound awesome inside the truck (when I want to listen to them). However, my little girl has the control of the remote currently and I can only listen to Cat in the Hat, Step UP, High School Musical, or a hundred other kiddie DVDsfor limited periods of time. I can press the master volume and listen to my own music while she listens through the IR headsets. The install charges were rather steep but worth it. Time effort aside, I should have done this months ago. Hope this helps anyone interested in the Cleansweep. It does sound awesome. Mark
  6. Yes, my wife is being reassigned to FT Hood, Texas, where my little girl was born. For at least two years. I think I spoke to you ions ago. I graduated from Tarleton State (Central Texas) before going to FT Campbell and two tours to Iraq. Since than I finished my MBA-CIS and am working on my Ph.D in Organization Management-Leadership (the convenience of online schooling). So I have been very busy. Looking forward to the GTGs. If I cannot help expand our household count (we only have one child and have been married 8 years-some say we were married to the Army) than Rosanna will be redeploying to Iraq with the 4th ID for 15 months. This would suck. I will keep in touch. Mark Mr. Mom, fulltime student,
  7. What would the odds be that I would be leaving FT Campbell, KY on 24 July 07 enroute to Central Texas? Within an hour of Austin?? Maybe my wife, an Army officer, would allow me (a retired Army First Sergeant) to RECON a few days earlier? I will see to it. I had a blast at Vette city and met many great guys! Does anyone have any specifics other than what I have seen online? Mark
  8. Hello Jim, unfortunately I will not be able to attend. Once I retired from the Army in March 2007, I started my Ph.D in Organization Management-Leadership, when my wife returned from Iraq in NOV 06 (and highly publicized for Thanksgiving) I have been pretty swamped with family stuff and college since then. She is being relocated to FT Hood, Texas (Central Texas) and we will be leaving in the next couple of weeks. Last years meet was my first and it was great. Wished I could have tested the stock truck (albeit, Volant CAI and Corsa exhaust) on the track. We might be able to go up their for the weekend, before we leave so you could meet the wife and child (remember the one that had thought your oldest (8 yr old) was cute?) She to this day has never lived it down-I love it! PM me. She would like to meet some of my SS buddies, yes nearly a year later. Mark
  9. While on active duty in the Army for 21 years, I attained an AAS in Law Enforcement (Central Texas College); BS in Criminal Justice-Magna Cum Laude (Tarleton State University-TXA&M school system); MBA-Computer Information Systems (Baker College-Center for Graduate Studies, FLint Michigan) this was an entirely online experience which is the only way most soldiers can get this done. After I retired I started my PhD in Organization Management with a specialization in Leadership at Capella University (another fully online accredited school)-current completing my second quarter with six to go before Comps and Dissertation phase. The online school programs are gaining interest for full time working professionals. I was able to complete two classes towards my MBA while deployed to Iraq during the "Invasion Tour 2003." Congratulations on your successes and others who posted their accomplishments. But do you have Bronze Stars (???), just kidding . Mark
  10. That was really funny. My wife sent me another one just this week: "A 2006 study found that the average Americans walk about 900 miles per year. Another study found that Americans drink an average of 22 gallons of beer per year. That means, on average, Americans get approximately 41 miles per gallon. That's better than your SS, honey." Having just retired from the United States Army this past Mar 2007, your joke gave me time to reflect. My retirement pay after 21 years, ending as a E-8, First Sergeant comes to $2100 . Meaning I work all my adult life for $12 an hour. Not to shabby I guess. Good thing about retiring from the Army (or military for that matter) is the ability to start new careers at a relatively young age. I dont feel retired and as long as I drive my SS I dont look retired either. Mark
  11. There is a black 03 and a red 04 at Saturn of Clarksville dealership in Clarksville, Tennessee. I have an 05 Silverbirch with 20,000 miles-sorry no for sale. Good luck. http://www.saturnofclarksville.com/en_
  12. Your advise is something I was going to do. Sometimes we have to hear it from someone else, first. I have hundreds of these huge ass zipties, being in the military and all (oh yeah, for one more week). I will let you know. Trim the scoop was also a good idea. I will use your idea first. Thanks.
  13. Did you have any issues installing the scoop? Mine rubs against my right tire when turning right? Any help would be great.
  14. Hey that was a bad ass ride. A compassionate assassin?? Did I hear you correctly? In the words of Mortal Combat.."FINISH HIM!!!" It was great meeting you all. ONE WEEK TO RETIREMENT!!! Mark
  15. Thanks for posting the link. I am still a cherry on this site. We did find a few other sites that have information about the weekend. it follows below. We eventually had Channel 2 and 5 out of Nashville into our home the morning of Thanksgiving. These clips aired about 11:00 pm. Some of the family members including myself do not remember much of that night due to the Crown, Coronas and other adult beverages served after dinner . It was a good time. The next day her parents received a Freedom Salute Certificate of Achievement. We made the deal a little bigger than most would. However, any Soldier, can order these for spouses, veterans, parents or Active/Reserve/National Guard soldiers. I am not sure if my other Brothers in Arms have the same program. I would not be surprised if they did not. http://www.freedomteamsalute.com/ftspublic/ Enjoy and honor an active duty soldier, veteran, reserve, National Guard or parent or spouse of one. Mark
  16. Hello all, I would first like to say I hope everyone has a very nice and safe Thanksgiving. Mine will be especially important because my wife just returned from a year deployment to Iraq. Prior to the deplaning ceremony Network TV and various local and national papers got a hold of the fact that My wife( a physician's assistant), her brother (a flight medic), and I were deployed for a year together, yet not so close. Her other brother a CPT in the Reserve deployed to Afghanistan during my first deployment to Iraq in 03. So among the newspaper reporters were AP, Christian Science Monitor, Clarksville Leaf Chronicle, LA Times (my wife and her family are from Gardena), CBS and FOX were there. So as you can tell when my wife was expecting a couple of quiet days with family has been anything but. This morning we were shown on ABC's Good Morning America. For anyone interested, all the articles and video can be located on the net. Just Google Vasquez reunion. So a few days of fame to get the word out that families also deploy and can survive and reunite until the next call to duty. I for one will be clearing the military within the next few days and retiring after 21 years, 7 months, on my 40th birthday...SWEET!. I will work as a consultant, contractor or other federal government style job. I hope everyone stays safe this weekend. Air Assault! Mark
  17. thanks that made me feel good. lol o well ill just have to swap enines from my moms escalade into this one day.. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Be careful if you decide to buy the SS Scoop that attaches to the bottom opening, if it is not installed exactly right your right tire will rub on the wheel well casing, or the tube itself, or the clamp . I spent most of a morning moving, adjusting, screwing and unscrewing clamps to get the alignment just right. Oh another thing the scoop intake looks like it will fit perfectly behind the right lower vent---but doesn't. Just some words of wisdom. On the bright side, I immediately noticed nice gains with the scoop, kind of freaks me out in wet weather, because the truck sounds better in colder, wetter weather which we have had our fair share of here in Fort Campbell, KY . Mark
  18. Zippy I am ready for a tune. Many of the SSS in the Vette City Get together use you. Since you were highly recommended I am asking for your support. I will PM you for specifics. Mark
  19. DirectV does the same thing. I figured that out when they came in to install my new dish and I found the HDMI cable I bought for the system hidden in one of my back shelves. Sneaky bastard. So I took my Monster Cable HDMI cable back to Best buy and got $149 back. I will never go back from HD. Top
  20. that is also the reason I got the Silver-birch. the black one they had in Tucson was cloth interior and something else it did not have. Oh yeah, it had those silver rims not Chrome. Beside Silver-Birch looks great with a light coat of Texas-Georgia-Tennessee dust on it .
  21. I am with you. I just spent Saturday with four blue ones at the Vette City get together. They were all nice, I was envious. I am partial to Silver-birch for obvious reasons. It singled me out in the crowd, besides I felt like the Pied Piper all the kids wanted to ride with me??? However, the old saying goes you always like what you dont have. Or is it if you ate Filet Mignon all the time you sometimes would get a hankering for a hamburger ? Just kidding you blue guys.
  22. Jim, great job setting this up. It was a blast. I also wished I could have stayed for the track but promises to deployed wife are just that. A little someone here is still talking about your 8 y/o boy. I am giving here such a hard time- I love it now. Definitely will hate it in 10-12 years (probably sooner if I cant get her into a convent, first! ). Let me tell you about a small world. Went onto post to make an appointment for my last Physical in the Army . I am talking to the VA adminstrator and in small talked noticed he races camaroes. He was at the track and the corvette museum. He asked which one I had and said the Silver one. HE noticed it was not among the blues and blacks that raced on Sunday. So there you have it. I thought that was pretty cool. HE called you all beasts. HE runs 1/8 mile and the trucks were doing 1/4s. He noticed and exceptionally nice run by a black one. Was that Bad2 or Puffer? When my wife gets back next week from Iraq, we could do the track thing later down the road with a bunch of you KY/TN types and we dont have to call it anything. We could call it my retirement party . Thanks again. 101st Air Assault. Top
  23. Your shirt will be with J.Yates. I attempted to send this nearly an hour ago. I am staying at the Drury Inn ( a relatively expensive hotel) and it is way to expensive for me to work my way into their Network to be able to connect to the net. It should be plug and play and for the price almost every other hotel is wireless. WTF?? I am Pi$$ed . I am having a beer and calming down. I will be fine tomorrow. The Outback here is the shit, the highlight so far. Jim, did anyone know that they are having a high school band competition in this town? I did not know what was going on. The high school kids were not a problem until all these girls started running around in their bikini's and Elisa (my 6 y/o) said I dont think I want to go to high school. It was sooo cute. "AND THAN" a high school boy about a buck o' five wasn't paying attention in the elevator and ran into me. It shocked me so much that I dropped him and than helped him up. Shit, I professed PTSD (post traumatic stress disorder). Just kidding. We said he lost his balance as one of his buddies said that old man took you down. "I am not old.!!!"
  24. I hope I was good on the numbers. Going to get them now. I will bring stickers and stuff for those I miss. I will give you a call tonight when I get in the room. Later, Mark.
