  1. Well I picked up a slightly used yank ss 3600. I was wondering what you guys think about installing it before my cam swap. I won't be doing my cam swap for a while. What mods need to be done to the transmission before install besides a big cooler? I'd like to get this out of the way first since I don't want to tackle two big jobs at once.

    It'll be fine.

  2. Tuning the trans tc parameters will help you a lot on top end. Shift points as we'll.

Update had the tuned truck ran a 14.1@93 with 20s

Then I put 17 inch wheels with 225/55r17 tire are 27 inches tall and 9 inch wide truck ran a 13.9@ 97

It was kind of hot and humid out I think there's a .1-.2 in there

Not bad for a SSS with

    Arh long tubes,Corsa sport,k&n cai,3200 stall,tune, and 17 inch tires

Before 14.6@93 with k&n cai, ARH longtubes , and the corsa sport

After the circle d 3200 stall ran 14.4 @91 I was expecting more then that the truck feels like it struggles in 3rd gear

I'm hoping it's a tuning issue it's still never been tuned at all before or after

What do u guys think ?

    Awesome man.

  3. I just don't understand why you wouldn't tune for such a mod. Our transmissions are rather delicate as is. I understand the whole across the country thing. But some of us travel across the country to chill with our tuners. Basically, if the PCM is throwing codes at you, something needs to be fixed/modified (retuned).

Most tuners just turn that code off, PCM doesn't conduct test to determine if a fault exist btw. So it's really not "fixed". This is why I get upset with many on this board. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying tuning isn't crucial! But if you don't know anything about tuning for a particular mod, then plz.......

  4. prolly a tune on the ragged edge. its really hard to say with how certain people tune. a dyno is a tuning tool. you cant pay attention to gaining this or gaining that. Especially when it comes to headers. I ran the 3/4 and the 7/8 on my truck. if they match with your entire setup, i like to refer to it as "use-able" power, then you will benefit across the board by making your setup more efficient. if you run a small converter, small cam, stock heads, then they are clearly not beneficial for you as your usuable power will be lost while you might have marginal gains on the big end. But you toss the bigger primaries on a motor shoving much more air into it, you will see more gains. Also as well as the guys with bigger stalls, and bigger cams, as your usable power is going to be in the upper rpm range, so it doesnt matter if you lose some low end because your not relying on this as your motor is built to be more efficient up top. ill have a set of 7/8" off here in a week if anyone is looking to upgrade.

They were 1-3/4. And the difference between 1-3/4 vs 1-7/8 at low rpm is so small, less than 5hp, besides that's what a stall is for. This gets hashed out every other day it seems.

As for the for the ragged edge comment, I doubt it. I didn't see the tune but it's hard to put a LT only motor on the "ragged edge". Calculate (airflow)VE, set AFR, and see how much timing she holds. That's the formula for horsepower.

  5. Mine went 3 months before I retuned it. Never hunted for idle, only shifted a little too early at part throttle and threw the 0757 code every now and then. Sometimes it would lock and unlock at 45mph. All in all not hard to fix if know anything about tuning these trucks.

Not directing this towards you in particular, but I get tired of reading posts for guys talking about tuning, when they have NO IDEA what they are talking about. I mean if some dude across the country does your tune, then plz don't tell people what needs tuning and what doesn't. I actually had a guy on here, tell me that my truck would run worse after a header install with no retune, on a stock truck, I mean WTF. You get a cel, but I assure you, even with the stock tune, you will make more power with LTs.

  6. There was an article in some mag a few years ago where the dyno tested a brand new LQ9 from GM. It had dynatech longtubes I believe. Any ways the engine stock, need 355hp at the fly wheel. They then added dynatech longtubes and a tune, the power output jumped to over 400hp at the fly wheel.

  7. Just curious, since you have these great programs for heads, can I check out your business website. You must have winning cars going down the track or cars running on the street with your equipment. Also do you compete in engine masters that has the best engine builders in the country. Unless you work for bischoff or kasse I doubt you can beat us. Not sure why you can't pm with your number and tell me this over the phone and not trash this thread. How about you and the other guy quit talking about it and have a challange on ls heads.

We don't do cylinder head work.....

I make turbines, complex valves for aerospace, and rock bits for drilling rigs just to name a few. The little HAAS machines you use, wouldn't even machine the material I work with on a daily basis.

  8. Guys, anybody that says " they learned cnc mills and lathes in one month" is full of shit. Guys I'm in the cnc business. Been programming and setting up multi axis machines for 10 years. We've been in business for over 60. Guys that come in sounding like this ALWAYS end up not knowing Shit. We have equipment and cad/cam packages that SAM could only dream of, the best of the best and I've been programming for 10 years...... I can still crash the heck out of a machine. Btw anybody worth their salt won't work for free.....

    Just food for thought guys
