  1. Mr. P I think the small bolt I descibing is the cross bolt for the main caps. As for the other bolt I'm still unsure. The freeze plugs are they like the old style you drive in or is it threaded in.

Fireman 31 I'm 100% sure its not oil as I did the old taste test on the drip. I know for sure its not p/s fluid or the eng. oil.

I will try and go get one of those adapters to pressure test the coolant system and maybe talk to mechanic.

What about putting stop leak in the coolant system!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And I think I will put some dye in the coolant also to but for sure its coolant.

  2. Ok I know its not coming from the water pump weap hole as it is dry in that area. There is a external bolt that can be loosened by a allen wrench what passage is it blocking? Also there is a 10mm bolt directly above the oil pan that is recessed in the block alittle what does it go into? This is all on the front drivers side of the block in the area of my leak??

Normally i would have pressure tested it but i don't have the correct cap to go onto the radiator tank. I have the old style that goes onto the radiator. Thanks and keep the suggestion coming.

Oh would it hurt to put some stop leak in it. Don't bash me on this I know first it right the first time. I'm also think of putting some dye in it.

  3. I did a search and found some things but not related to mine.

The coolant is dripping off the very first front bolt on the drivers side of the side of the oil pan. Its coming down from anywhere i've wiped and cleaned and its coming out of that bolt. Does that bolt go into a coolant passage!!!!!! Its dripping down on the steering cross shaft and while driving it blowing back on the pumpkin of the front end pass. side half of the front end. It not bad haven't had to add any coolant. I thought maybe it was power steering and did the taste and its not p/s fluid.

During the search it did I checked the exhaust bolts and their is like a plug on the side of the block about mid way up and its not leaking. I'm 100% sure well 99.5% sure its coming out of that dam bolt that holds the oil pan on. I don't know enough about these motors to know for sure. So any help would be appreciated. Thanks

  4. In Jan. 07 my Alt. guite charging according the gauges. So i took it off and took it to Autozone and it showed it was charging. I decided to get the new Alt. and they told me I could bring it back if it wasn't the problem so I said OK.

Well it was the problem my old Alt., even though it check OK.

So I quess I saying even if it checks OK you might try a new Alt.

  5. Left work last night and went to turn A/C on and at the same time the radio went to squealing really load. I though something with radio station well I look down at the cluster and everything is like the truck is turn off, windows dont work, seat will not move,a/c dont work, interior lights dont work, and service air bag light is on. I thinking what the hell is going on. I stop turn truck off and everything starts to work well and soon as I give it gas everything quites. So I start to drive and have a few stop light in between and everything starts working and I notice when it gets over 1200rpm everything quites. Get close to home and low battery voltage lights comes on but when I slow down everything starts to work the volt meter is pegged at 16 volts. Well get home go to hook up battery tester I can smell acid like its frying the battery and sure enough its reading 16 volts. I replaced this Alt. in Jan 07 from Autozone. I call them and they have one. I asked them if they were liable for any damages done to the truck during this little episode and he really didn't know what to say. I told him I'll be back if there was any problems and he's like OK. Well put the new Alt. on and everything is OK think god.

Just wanted to post this so if anything like this happens to anybody else.

  7. One more story:

This didn't happen to my but to my friend in my shop. We were built demo cars and he had a buick car and the tranny was bad so he was changing it. The old trans was a universal case and he got another trans from salvage yard to put in it. Got the trans up in the car and got a couple bolt in the trans bolted up the torgue converter with 2 bolts and went to finish the other bell-housing and discover that the trans had a different bolt arrangment. He MAD rips out the trans leaving the torque conv. bolt up. 2 bolt. Fires the car up one foot on the ground one on the gas wide open. All at once I heard this load spinning hissing sound and I look out the shop door and the torque conv. is on the concrete spinning a million mph and not moving. It starts to move and just misses his foot by 6". Finally after about 5 mins. it seamed we stopped the torque conv. from spinning. After all said and done and nobody hurt it was funnier than hell. Oh he didn't make the demo derby either.

  8. When I built my 408sbc for my Nova a few years ago I was preping the block by tapping all the holes. I had just got done cleaning the head bolt threads and went to the oil holes above the cam bearing and not thinking tapped the holes pretty deep and to this day have a small leak from them because they wouldn't seat properly. Sad part is this wasn't my first motor I built. I had it apart a few time to try and fix but the leak always come back. I have oil restrictors in 2 of the ports and 1 of them you cant go in to deep because the dist. will not come out if you need to get it out. I've tried different restrictors, pipe tape, and even J-B weld around the holes. Still a little leaks and I HATE leaks. It p*sses my off every time I think about it.

  9. First story:

First day at the Dealer ship working as a Line Tech and first job is to put intake gasket on a county cop car. No big deal drain, remove, clean everything install new gaskets putting all back together top off the fluids warm the car up road test all done. The county Sheriff come for the car that afternoon. Get a call from them the next day that it blowed the bottom radiator hose off. Well could fiqure out what was going on it had built up pressure and blowed it off. Drain the coolant and service manager says take off the water neck and remove thermostat I did. Problem was I put the intake gasket block off plates on the wrong end in the front instead of the back. Lesson learned!
