misterp
Assuming a N/A SS w/ rockers, CAI, headers, cat-back, tune, and shift-kit: would a 3000-rpm convertor be too much stall? or would 2800 be a smarter choice?? Mr. P.
zippy
i don't think so. with a stock cam i think 3k is the limit, but certainly acceptable.

Thanks Zip, your advice is really appreciated; the SS is my first slushbox so I'm kind of out of my element on that... Mr. P.
styleandspeed
I just got a trailblazer stall, and I don't think that 3,000 stall would be too much. With the TB stall drivability barely changed, and I don't think that a 3k would be much worse.
SuperSport
I think you may be pushing it with a 3k stall with a stock cam. the stock cam is very small for a 6.0L. If you are gonna do the stall, you might as well do a cam to take full advantage of that stall.

zippy
the number 3 truck on our N/A list has a 3k stall with a stock cam.
tawss04
3k is too much stall for street use. cruising rpm around town and slower highway drive is usually under 3k. the converter will not lock correctly when the pcm comands it. The tranny will work harder at lower speeds plug gas mileage will suck. We put one in my friends 99 vette awesome luanches at the track pain in the ass around town. evandostert
I think 3k is perfect. I want a 3200 when i install my cam. You can barely feel a 2600-2800 converter at all. I disagree with the gas milage thing too. I havn't seen any change.
2bseen
I am running a 3400 stall and drives just fine. My wife doesn't even know it there. The day I got my truck I changed the cam, stall and headers.
misterp
evandostert and 2bseen - thanks for the good word. What kind of changes did you see in your mileage and trans temp? Mr. P.
marc_w
I thought the ideal stall speed is something like 500 rpm under your peak torque number... So assuming 3,600 is the peak torque on a stock LQ9 - the 3000 might be as good as it gets.
