SS PCM tuning

It would be nice, as our ownership numbers grow, to have a specific area for PCM tuning. It would be where we could discuss tuning specifc to the SS and how to use it to take advantage of any mods we have. Not to infringe upon LS1 Edit's domain, couldn't we do that here and have a specific area to do so?

Is this a bad idea, as per my usual, or is all the stuff being discussed over on LS1edit.com generic enough for application on this truck?

If you have a laptop, LS1 edit rocks. Well, since there is still a slight problem with tuning in the truck and you have to take the PCM out, you don't necessarily need a laptop. But with autotap or EFI live, you'll want to use it to read your performance so you can make informed adjustments with LS1 edit.

--------------------------------------

LS1 Edit is the "do it yourselfers" tuning. Very powerful, poor instruction manual, trial and error for most modifications. The best option for the hardcore truck / car guy. Near unlimited control of all PCM related functions. Use caution, and you'll probably be just fine.

Hypertech and Superchips are "tuning in a can". Very limited options, some choices, but most changes are on or off with no fine tuning detail. Convenient handheld device. Results aren't that great for the power gains, but shifts and other options are almost with the price. Not a very good all around option. The superchips has a benefit in that it can have a custom tune loaded for you from the manufacturer.

Westers Garage or Ed Wright is the "send it off" proessional tune. Many times this is hit or miss with a good tune. After time, most tuners get a feel for what works well, and get a pretty close tune the first time, but there is no way they can get a perfect tune without seeing your truck in person, running it, testing it, and making informed adjustments to the tune. These tunes are good but not perfect as there are too many variables involved.

Diablo is the attempt at a cross between handheld tuning device like the microtuner with more detailed features like a pro tune or LS1 edit. It does give you more control over options, but the control is pretty broad with limited tweaking ability. Has the drawback of being PCM locked after use, so once you load it, it will only work for that one truck.

Any others?

Richard
