Silvania Silverstars

Recommended Posts

Alex,

Are you making sure to not touch the actual bulb part with your hands?  I've heard touch the bulb with your hands will cause the bulb to have a shorter life...I've had a pair last over 2 years on my last silverado (2002)...

i have problems with my daytime driving lights always burning out quickly...Seems like my passenger side always go out every 6 months.

Ya, I never touch the actual bulb when I install it. I've had my amber DRL's probably as long as I've had the Silverstars and have yet to change those. :dunno: Maybe it's just the bulbs I'm getting, but like I said, I'm done with those. I should be picking up my HID's tomorrow.

Is you truck lowered by chance?

Silverstars seem to have a real problem with vibration. My wife's

2004 Grand Prix CompG was eating them every 4 months. The

particular spring package on this model created a lot of headlight

bounce. GM finally figured out how to add braces to better support

the headlight housings. This solved the problem.

The truck had one burn out after only a few months. Since then I've

been on the same set for 2+ years.

The one that burned out had the glass bulge on the side of the bulb.

I'm wondering if the glass had something on it out of the package.

I was very careful not to touch the bulbs when installing. Since then

I always wipe the bulb down with acetone before installing them.

You got to be really carefull with those lights, i had the same issue when I foud out thaat if you get the less little bit of crap on them, they will burn out. The beam is great, but you have to be carefull putting them in.

:nono: no oily fingures.

i posted on another thread about this issue a while back. im sure you all have this issue figured out by now, but i had mine burn out in short time and when i went to buy replacments it looked like they had beefed up their design and have had no problems with the new once since.
