cwest94
Okay, I think everyone out there has heard of the Pens before. In case no one knew this, Pens owner Mario Lemieux and his parterns are fighting with the city of Pittsburgh for a new arena. After talks for the past 3 months, money hog Lemieux is going towards moving the Pens away from the city. This is such total BS, after what all this city has done for him, he turns his back on us now. You dont have to live in Pittsburgh to know the Pens go with this city. This so pisses me off that Lemieux is trying to fight by moving the team. Here is the latest in the local paper: http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/07064/767020-61.stm I'm just really pissed about this all right now. CoolBlueSS
Didn't he spend most of his career with the Penguins?
Lefty
More like all of it.
cwest94
Take it no one here is a hockey fan. Anyways, yes Lemieux spent his entire career with the Pens in this city, you would think he would be fighting to stay instead of being an ass. If the teams leaves this city, it is going to have a major impact to everyone. I guess you have to live here to understand what this all means, and I dont think there are many people in the PGH area on this board anymore other then me anymore. CoolBlueSS
I'm not a huge fan, but am a fan. I guess that would be equivalent to the Dallas Cowboys moving to another city. Jerry Jones would be facing a lynch mob if that happened.
Porno Joe
I'm from the Pittsburgh area, and I am pissed we might lose the Pens. But you do have to agree with Lemieux in a way, the Pens have the oldest and worst arena in the league, and he has been trying to get a new arena built for what like 3 or 4 years now? If i remember correctly, didn't he himself offer to buy some property next to Mellon Arena but was rejected by the city? IMO the city of Pittsburgh really dicked Lemieux over, and its only now that he is threatening to move the Pens that the city is trying to help him. Where was the city the past 3 years? Porno Joe's hit the nail on the head. Of course Lemieux doesn't want to move the team, but he also doesn't want his hockey team playing in a shit arena. I'm a Maple Leafs fan, and I can imagine how I'd feel if they wanted to move my team somewhere else. Sorry to hear about the move but maybe some people will listen to him now and he'll give the team the home they deserve Cheers!
TimB
I don,t think theres anything the city can do to please Mario he,s going to move the team no matter what and make it sound like its the citys fault. I don,t think the city shold foot the bill for the pens. They did it for the pirates and it got them nothing.
KoreySS
I'm not from Pittsburg but the pen have always been my favorite team. This really upsets me. I know what that team means to the city. Hope they stick around, if not, send them to STL!!! -K-
Bigdogx
It is not sounding good for Pitt. Mario sounds like he is really pushing that state to either approve a new arena or he is packing up and leaving. All i can say is the city must be run by some moronic politicians, if they let them walk and you will see how dead your downtown area becomes if that franchise leaves. I can only speak from experience when i watched the whalers leave for the same reason. The city of Hartford is still suffering those consequences of letting a professional team walk over money that they now have lost ten fold from lost revenue from people going to see the games.Such a shame for a city like Pitt. that perhaps has one of the most talented and gifted hockey players to come through the ranks since Mario or Wayne! I cant blame Mario one bit, most businesses don't like to operate at a loss. And continuing play in that dump pos of a arena is just not going to work for the future of that team! So go ahead Pitt. remain with that cheap attitude of we wont use tax dollars, and watch your state lose that money 20 times over in the next decade when no one gives a crap about going downtown anymore. Go call the mayor of Hartford and ask him how denying the whalers funds to seek a new arena has worked out for them. Pitt. fans if you peg any part of this on mario after all he has given that city you are idiots, you need to go and put this on the countless overpaid do nothing polliticians who are blocking this! And no im not a penguins fan im a bruins fan, "and yes i still want to see Ulf get hit by a bus then have a 747 land on top of him" but i think it would be a shame to see this team move to some obscure city like kc just because they are smart enough to know what kind of revenue comes with owning a major sports franchise!
