I have a hitch plug that was gold, surrounded by chrome. I used some fine steel wool to rough up the gold part, masked the chrome, and sprayed the gold portion with black paint. Came out nice, I think.

CAREFUL!!!! My buddy took his off his '07 Tahoe, and it WAS attached by more than just adhesive. He has two little holes that are offset that would have to be filled or covered by something else. He and I are both Longhorn fans, and the little chrome longhorn emblems won't cover the holes. On his the holes looked like this (see below)

Check w/ a dealer first or look into covering your decal with something. I just did my front emblem with a carbon fiber stick on and it looks great. 8$ from webextremes.com

Sorry, the holes didn't stay put. They are about that far apart vertically, but 3 inches or so apart horizontally. So if you were looking at a 3" clock, the holes would be at 10 and 4.

He was talking about the NBS tailgate bowtie, not the grille bowtie.

I should have clarified. My buddy removed his bowtie emblem fromt the BACK of his NBS tahoe. I'm not sure if it's the same on the p/u trucks, but his DID leave two holes. I mentioned the overlay emblem (on my truck) as an alternative.

I took off the F150 badges on my work truck and there were holes for a emblem attachment as well. It was 3 little holes. If its there just get some 3m tape and put the emblem back on. No biggie really.

Where do U reside in TX "VHONXS"? My father has a black GMC VHO, urs kind of reminds me of it ALOT.

I'm north of Austin. When I had dealers looking for the B4V option, they found a black GMC VHO on the showroom floor somewhere in Louisiana, leather, the works, but as this is a company truck, I didn't want to push my luck and took the chevy.

Been reading with great interest how to remove that huge bowtie on the back of my 07 nbs. After reading all the posts, I went out with my gloves and fishing line and proceeded to cut through the tape. I gave up at the center, when the line kept breaking like there was indeed, something more than 3M tape holding it on. :shakehead: Tried it from the other side as well, again it broke at the same point. With both sides lifted, I tried to remove it by force......yep, you know the rest. :banghead: I'll be heading out in the morning to my local dealer and ordering another. Going to wait til I get the replacement and see exactly what's behind there before I finish removing the old, crinkled one. :sigh:

Will keep you posted.

I would guess there is nothing there ... just your fishing line is getting tore up on the edges or just not heavy duty enough. If they were to put posts to hold the emblem on it would not be dead center ... they would be at the outter edges or two posts about 1/3 of the way from the center out ( one on each side ).

You might try using a hair dryer to get the 3m tape to loosen up and make it easier to cut/pull. But let us know how it turns out for you ... I'm sure many people are awaiting your discoveries.
