Chris Dubya
I would guess there is nothing there ... just your fishing line is getting tore up on the edges or just not heavy duty enough. If they were to put posts to hold the emblem on it would not be dead center ... they would be at the outter edges or two posts about 1/3 of the way from the center out ( one on each side ). You might try using a hair dryer to get the 3m tape to loosen up and make it easier to cut/pull. But let us know how it turns out for you ... I'm sure many people are awaiting your discoveries. I still think it's like the rear emblem on my buddy's NBS Tahoe and held on with little nipples. He had the same problem with his fishing line. Two holes about 'O' that big. See my post above. bfisher3
Update on an earlier post, yes you can remove that big old badge from the back of your new Silverado! I ordered a new replacement (after damaging the original trying to remove it) and it is all tape on the back, no alignment pegs! So, I attempted to finish removing the old one, this time heating it up and using triple strand fishing line, and she finally came off. Took a while to clean it up, most of the tape stuck to the paint. I discovered that rolling it off with your thumb is more effective and quicker than soaking it with Goo gone. Makes the thumb kinda sore, but works like a charm! It looks great without the bowtie, so I'm going to put the new badge away and reinstall it when I sell the truck. huero626
On my V-Max I took out the GM emblem and the Silverado rear decal, I only left V-Max so people know what engine I got and I left LTZ so people know it's loaded. Big O
Even if you take them off and there are holes, just get a new emblem and stick it back on ... it's not that big of a deal.
