L92inTexas
Hey guys. I have a 2007 NBS GMC Sierra Denali 2WD. Getting any performance info is like pullin friggin teeth! My end game is something like 500-550 hp at the wheels ALL motor??? My thoughts anyways. Don't know if it's possible...all motor is a must though, 500 hp or not, and I'd like to maintain reliability. What is VVT and what does that mean for me and my cam selection? 6L80 is my transmission. Where do you find performance parts? Better yet, will a 6L80 handle 500-550 at the wheels with a VERY aggressive driver? And I'm not sure on the rear end. I'm pretty sure it has 3.53 gears. Don't know if it's a 10 bolt or a 12 or something else???? Some dude said it was a 9.5 inch? I appreciate the help guys. It's hard as sh*t to find anyone who knows anything about these trucks. I brought it up to my local "truck" shop.......they looked at it like it was from Mars, and then tried to sell me some crappy Superchips kit that was for a 5.3, and a bug deflector. VVT is variable valve timimng... some offer VVT cams now but the performance is minimal. If you choose a non VVT cam you will need to replace the lifters, lifter trays and the valley cover. Which mean the heads need to come off. If you go that route then have the heads worked on Richard at proheads.com has a nice CNC program for the L92 heads. There has not been enough people going nuts on the new platform yet to answer all of your questions. the rear end is probably a 9.5" 14 bolt with 3.73 gears. you can call a dealer with the last 8 of your vin and they can tell you the gear ratio. Jaymz
80s can take quit a bit of abuse.. depending on your term "very agressive".. with minimal mods
L92inTexas
Thanks for the help guys. I think where I'm at is deciding if I wanna stay out of the motor and go with simple bolt ons, or get all in it. What is involved in a 408 stroker? Let's just say CNC'ed heads, 408 stroker, headers, tune.......what's the damage? How much did it cost you guys to 408 stroker the 6.0s? I mean, a 408 stroker powered Denali sounds pretty sick......lemme know what you guys think. I'm not afraid to spend a little cash, but I don't wanna spend 10k for 100 hp..... You need to just keep the 6.2L and do a killer H/C setup and she will run good.

I talked to a guy at Texas Speed and he told me it would be arounf 4k to put a cam in. Sounded a bit on the heavy side to me, but I don't know much about costs or motor building. I want to gain 100 hp at least. And I wouldn't mind a very, very heavy cam lope. I appreciate the help. It's really hard to find knowledge on these trucks. Bear
Please check out: http://www.mastmotorsports.com/ There are plenty of go-fast parts for your ride; you just need to get in the right circle. Circle D builds billet converters for the 6L80, American Racing builds a nice set of headers and West Coast Cylinder Heads have superb heads. Mast & Comp both have variable timing cams available and like was mentioned you can run a regular non-variable timing cam, but it will a different timing gear set, a LS2 timing cover, unplugging and disabling the VVT in the tuning. AFM equipped trucks “which the 6.2L in the Denali doesn’t have” are the ones that require replacement of the lifters and as such requires pulling the heads and replacing the valley cover with a non-DOD cover. Also your Denali has the 9.5” 14 bolt with 3.42’s. Good luck finding your go fast parts and enjoy a great truck!

And will it be cost effective to eliminate it VS running a VVT cam? Would a nice set of springs/valves, an angle job, P&P, and a big cam give me about 50-60 rwhp?
