Blazerdave2000
Long story short the rear exhaust header bolt snapped off and now it's leaking. It's the driver side and there's absolutely no room to get a 90 degree drill in there and drill it out and tap it. So I'm going to have to remove the head just to drill this damn hole out and tap it. I'm confident I can do this my only concern is how do you adjust non adjustable rocker arms? Do I just take all the rocker arms off and put them back in the exact same spot and torgue them down? I did find a search that said are head bolts are non reusable? So I'm going to order a new head gasket and new header bolts now. Any help on how to do this gasket replacement would be great. Thanks
shawnss
its pretty easy. just remove all the rock bolts and factory heap bolts. you can get a single head gasket at you local GM dealership. you can get a single box of fel-pro head bolts at your local napa. thats where I found them the cheapest here in my town. as for the rock bolts you just torque them to 22 foot pounds. the crappiest part is the head bolts are torque to yield. or also called stretch to fit. you need a special gauge to torque them down. you could also do ARP head bolts or studs. if you do it that way you can just torque the ARPs done and not have to worry about the torque to yield crap. its not that bad but more of a hassle than just torquing down the ARPs. Blazerdave2000
That's ok the messages just overlapped. Thanks for all your help I think that should do it. I appreciate the picture on the intake
GI.SS
That list needs to be stickied!!! Ohh btw the same thing happened to my truck, same bolt. Only my header bolts kept walking out so a little bit of blue lock tight and 30 ft lbs and its been a week so far with no leaking or walking. I never did anything to the broken bolt just left it alone. Wasn't worth the hassle if I could get it to not leak. Someone might bash me for the lock tight but iV used it on hundreds of jetski and street bike motors with zero issues
lilaaron233333
remember to change the oil. any time you open up the motor you should do this to make sure you get any moisture that got into the motor while it was open... Cramer
Also make sure the bolt holes for the head bolts are totally cleaned out and no fluids are in them before putting the bolts in! Anyway thanks to all you guys for all the info regarding this process. Thanks again guys!
AKSSS
Arp header stud kit! Very cool and they work with the stock manifolds also. And they are super strong to hold on a turbo manifold.
