aerosys
Hi, I was pulling off from my driveway and went to drive off from a still and heard two pops. After that, the truck would barely go. Seems like the more I push the peddle down, the more it bogs down and goes slower. Also, when idling, the truck vibrates pretty heavily. Check engine light is on. Any help is appreciated. I also just got it today, but I drove it 3 hours back perfectly fine. Guy even told me to "step on it" when I test drove it and it did fine. Sucked me to the seat and hauled ass. so I don't think it was "bandaged." and just sold to me. It was a "as is" bill of sale so as far as warranty, there isn't one. Any help is appreciated. Thanks. canadianVRss
Check that code and tell us what it says. I'm going to guess "random misfire"
aerosys
Yep, random misfire. People are telling me to lean towards the 02 sensor going out?
canadianVRss
Are you running cats? Could be a clogged cat, 02 sensor or plugs/wires.
aerosys
There's a small "tapping" noise underneath the truck? Any idea?
Akslowroller
Do you have to be driving to hear the noise?
aerosys
No, does it while idling.
Akslowroller
Have you crawled under the truck to try and locate the area if the truck the noise is coming from?
aerosys
Sounds like it's coming from torque converter
Blown 346
I would probably start by replacing the normal wear items as plugs, wires, fuel filter, air filter and running some sea foam thru the gas tank and the vacuum line. Cleaning the MAF and TB. I bet you the truck will run better.
aerosys
I'm just worried about the ticking? What in the world could that be? Think my torque converter just had it and maybe a flywheel bolt snapped?
Aldofashow
This sounds like the same thing my truck did it was a clogged cat check while the truck is running with a red dot temp gauge before and after the cat the one that's cold after the cat is your clogged cat time to change or hollow your cats
Blown 346
If your converter bolt came off it would cause a huge vibration issue, not performance. Ticking could be injector pulse or arcing from the plug wires. The easiest way to check arcing is to start the truck, pop the hood and grab a spray bottle. Spray the wires in a dimly lit area and watch for arcing.
Blown 346
If a cat is clogged it will most likely glow red and smell horrible. I would do one thing at a time and not think its the cat or cats. A random mis fire code can mean alot of different things. Plugs, wires, maf, TB, cats, O2's. etc. The list goes on and on. Aldofashow
Check temps before and after the cat is a pretty cheap way of checking without spending any money
