  1. If you have Drive-By-Wire (electronic throttle), I would guess that the controll module on the throttle body is on it's way out. If it's Drive-By-Cable, my guess would be your return spring is going (same result happened in my camaro and that was the problem), or your IAC is freaking out...

Good luck though, let us know what it turns out to be!

  2. Where do I start?

First thing I owned was a 1989 Chevy K1500, had nice swampers on her, good bumps, good lift, and she ran 14.2 all day long on the stock 350 (with some nasty toys helping it along...) Sold it to buy my Camaro

Then, I had a 1975 Chevy K20 Suburban, my winter plow rig. Was built up like a living room on the inside (swivel seats, couch, chairs, tv, xbox, microwave, fridge, and then some) Sold it to buy my Camaro

Then, I have (yep, still), a 1982 Indy Pace Car Camaro with a 377 stroker and a close-geared 5 speed. Great in the summer. It's a nasty toy, I have a full corvette drive-train to go in it (ls2, t-56, posi-rear end), and then I'm doing a frame off on it, new interior, suspension, everything. It's going to be nasty.....

For the winter, I had a 1987 Chevy V30 Crew-Cab dually. brand new 454, plow cam, tuned TBI, 4.10 gears behind a 3 speed automatic, full stereo system, twin batteries, plow mount, 2" leveling lift. She's still for sale, can't afford 12mpg and insurance with this new SSS...

Also had a 1995 honda civic 5speed for a while... ( I know, it's like wtf after reading that list), but if you screw with those little things... 52mpg isn't too bad... it was just a fun little beater. It fit down our bike paths no problem. I actually hit a tree at 40mph in it, and it didn't even faze it; just put it in reverse, pulled it off the tree, kept driving around...

My new summer toy is a 1961 VW dune buggy. Bought it off this guy at a yard sale, it was in pieces and totally rusted out, so it's on my resto list for this summer... should have it done by july, I can't wait. 56hp is freaking awesome in those things!!!

^^^not bad for being 19? I think I spend waaay too much money, I could've bought a house with all the money that's in that list...

  3. Being that what you're looking to do is VERY custom ... your best bet would be to find the dimensions of the bezel you're talking about, and then match those up to the dimensions of the LCD panel you want to use. When I did mine, I measured everything before I bought my panel. I didn't want to buy something to find out later it wouldn't fit. Depth is probably going to be the most important dimension in the region that I think you're referring to. In our SS's, the trucks w/ the BOSE system have that subwoofer that's in the console ... and it might get in the way of what you want to do.

When I started brainstorming my project, I was going to replace my 6disc head with the GM NAV head, and just add the 6disc changer in the console ... similar to what you're talking about ... but I decided against that concept in lieu of placing the panel in that open area below the HVAC head.

I don't know the PN off hand, but I'm sure a dealer parts guy would be able to help you ...

I'm going to use a Double-DIN sized DVD player from kenwood, and complete it with some nice GPS and try to find a way to wire it all to the factory HU, or replace that as well (don't know for sure yet). But from the few pictures i've seen on this site of members with LCDs mounted down in that panel, it looks like my only option is to make a custom fiberglass panel or to get another panel and cut it to fit (which is what it looks like pimp_ss did)... Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated though...

  4. I was thinking about doing this mod, but I was going to start off with the panel that they used for the six-dish changers that weren't part of the head unit, they went down where pimp_ss's monitor is. I want to start with that panel and cut it out to fit the monitor. Anyone know if that will work?

If it does, somebody shoot me the PN please...

  5. Congrats on the new truck :chevy: Sounds like it was love at first sight!

    Mr. P. :)

That's part of the reason I paid so much for it, the salesman saw my smile and knew I'd pay anything to have it... And I would have paid more if they wanted it. How many chances do you get with something like that?

Honestly, an SS was my second choice right after a nice Diesel quad-cab (I use my trucks for towing my boat and for transportation up to maine for snowboarding and such), so I needed to find an AWD one. I never thought I'd find one still hanging out on a lot though...

  6. Well..it certainly was a unique oppurtunity. Welcome to the board.

I paid $23k for my one owner 2003 SS one year ago with 15k miles. I would have paid maybe $30k for a brand new one. To each their own and all that matters is if you are happy. I cant believe they hung onto it for that long. Do they not have to pay inventory taxes on it? They probably had a pool going or something that whoever sold it got some big prize like a vacation or check or something.

Actually, there's only one salesman there. He's a pretty chill guy too, published his own magazine for 23 years, drove a top-fuel dragster, and then he retired and to keep busy he sells cars. It's a really skeezy dealership, but their tech dept is unbelievable...

  7. Hey everyone. I've been reading this site for about a month now (ever since I got my SS), looking for all the new toys and such I could get for it. Everything on this site has been really helpfull, and has changed my priorities around pretty drastically.

    Anywho, read it and weep:

'03 AWD SSS, never before owned / titled, less than 300 miles on it. I'm not even at 2k miles yet.

All my money is going in to the engine bay, I don't really care much for cosmestics yet. What's the general consensus on what I should do first? (I've got the Radix in mind, but I don't want to shred my warranty....)

  8. Look in your owners manual. It should have all the weights and capacities in there. Also, if you can't find what you're looking for locally and decide to order it, I personally recommend Royal Purple. It's expensive, but it's great stuff imo.

  9. Heh, my SS is just a child compared to you guys. I bought her off the lot with 291 miles less than a month ago. I'm not even past 2k yet!! At least I'm the first owner.

And it's an '03... unreal huh?
