  1. I don't see why it wouldn't work. I just wanted to ask & see if anyone here had done it. Insulate the fuel lines with some hi-temp wrap. Anyone got an opinion?? Thanks.
  2. Has anyone routed the drivers side exhaust pipe on the drivers side of the trans on a 2wd SS. I saw an old picture on here awhile back of one that was done like this but can't find it again. I was thinking about doing this & mounting my Doug's cutouts between the trans crossmember & the torsion bar crossmember, so there is more room & then crossing the drivers side pipe over after the torsion bar crossmember to the muffler (dual in dual out) then out in front of the passenger side tire. Are there any precautions that need to be taken when routing the drivers side exhaust pipe on the drivers side of the trans? Like insulating the fuel lines or O2 sensor wiring harness or rerouting the O2 sensor wiring harness? I thought doing it this way would make mounting the cutouts easier. I'm using 2 1/2" pipe. Thanks for the input guys.
  3. I talked to Dynatech & they are going to replace the drivers side header that is leaking. It was a .020 gap at the top of the flange on #5 cyl. The other header is fine. So the OEM type gaskets should be ok, but I think I'm still going to use the Fel Pro header gaskets.
  4. I decided I'm going to keep them now. I talked to Dynatech & they are going to replace the drivers side header that is leaking. It was a .020 gap at the top of the flange on #5 cyl. The other header is fine. I'm going to go ahead & modify the pipes after the cats so I can do the custom exhaust I want. I can reuse the pipes that are on the cats, just reconfigure & reweld them.
  5. I didn't find the pics. I did find an old post of yours. You were talking about how the driver side collector was angled towards the frame? How close is the end of the collector from the frame? What about the passenger side, does it do the same or does it run even with the frame? How far is the end of the collector from the trans crossmember? That's the main area I would like to see a picture of, the collector area. Thanks.
  6. I personally say to heck with the OEM style or GM gaskets for headers. They are made for manifolds that are machined true & won't flex/warp. I'm going to swap them out for a set of #1438 Fel Pro Header gaskets & see if that fixes them.
  7. The only place that leaks is the number 5 cyl. The gaskets that came with the headers are OEM style for stock manifolds (not very good for headers), I'm going to try a set of Fel Pro header gaskets & see if it stops. The flanges could be machined true if needed. I'm thinking about doing different aftermarket headers & doing a total custom exhaust system. Not cut up the Dynatech pipes, I can't do what I want to do without cutting them up. I can do $1200. for them plus shipping & I'll put a set of new Fel Pro header gaskets with them. They have 20 miles on them. Let me know what you think. Thanks.
  8. Any chance I could get a picture or two of your exhaust setup? I'm trying to ge some ideas. Did you run the pipes on each side of the transmission over the crossmember, instead of both on the passenger side like stock? Thanks.
  9. I used the gaskets that came with the headers. They are OEM style gaskets. How was the straightness of the header flanges on yours?
  10. I'm thinking about selling my Dynatech LT headers with hi-flow cat system. They are the new style headers. They are uncoated raw stainless. Anyone interested??
  11. I just put my Dynatech header kit on yesterday. What a job! Sounds great even on the stock exhaust system. The only problem is that flange is leaking on the number 5 cyl all the others are fine. I wasn't to impressed with the straightness of the flanges to start with (even though they are not off much), but I figured it would straighten after it got hot & I retorqued the bolts & it would stop, but it didn't. I'm going to try a set of Fel Pro header gaskets & see if it stops. Anyone else having a problem?
  12. Which header did you use? My truck is a 2wd SSS. Are you running cats on your truck? Thanks.
  13. Has anyone thought about or has installed a set of #6500 or #6501 Kooks longtube headers for LS1 Camero/Firebird on their SSS? Would they fit? Then doing a custom built exhaust from the collectors back. Was wondering this since Kooks doesn't list a set of LT's for the SS. Also what about the LT's they make for the TBSS & SSR? I thought since these were for applications that were tighter in the engine compartment than the SSS that they might work? Thanks for the input guys.
  14. I'm thinking about changing all oils, engine, tranny, & rearend over to Royal Purple. Any one here use it? How do you like it? I'm also going to treat it all the way with Z-Max. Let me hear some opinions. Thanks Guys.
  15. I am having a hard time deciding about to get the Dynatech LT Headers kit with or without cats. Are there any real performance gains by not having cats? What is the biggest reason for not having them? Thanks for the input guys.
  16. Does anyone know what the thick block of foam under the intake, between the intake & valley cover is for? I just noticed it today. Is it for sound deading or heat insulation? Thanks.
  17. I have heard talk about doing a Throttle Body Coolant Bypass. How are you guys doing this? Is there a kit or do you do it by caping off the fitting coming from the drivers side & the one on the radiator or do you have to run a hose from those to fittings? What kind of hose or caps do you use? Thanks.
  18. Is there more than one style of stock SS tailgate caps? This is the one I have. My question in earlier posts was, will I have to take it off & replace it with a smooth cap without the small lip in the middle (or will there be no holes along the top on the tailgate) to install a Gaylord's Speedsturr tonneau cover? I'm wanting the tonneau that has the made on tailgate cap. Thanks.
  19. Brad, Were you having them made?? If there isn't a copyright on the name for the decal or something I can get them made in any color you want. I could even make them any size you want. I'm thinking about getting some done in "brushed chrome" to kinda match the finish on the SS emblems on the truck. I may put the two I got from you on my toolboxes. Let me know. I can get them done quick.
  20. Has anyone tried a VaraRam VR-3 Throttle Body Velocity Stack? Do they work or are they about like using a TB Spacer? They say they smooth the air flow & act like a ported & polished throttle body? It's an insert for the TB. What do you guys think? Thanks.
  21. ccc 23, I just received my Gibson Super Truck Exhaust system. I got the #65614 stainless steel kit. I decided to go with a custom built cat-back system using a Super 40 Flowmaster, since Flowmaster doesn't make a bolt-on kit. If you are interested in my Gibson system I will sell it for exactly what I payed for it plus what it would cost to ship it to you. It's brand new just opened the box to look at it. It will save me having to ship it back & possibly paying a re-stocking fee. PM me or email me at [email protected] if you are interested. Let me know. Talk to you later.
  22. Hazmat, Do you have a part number for your Gaylord's Speedsturr tonneau cover? Yours is exactly like what I want, it looks great! I want to keep the stock SS tailgate cover. I have the one that stands out not the smooth cap, which one do you have? Is it the X2000 series? Did you get a carpeted headliner? Thanks.
  23. I was told the tailgate cap had to be taken off for the Speedsturr wing opition, but not if you don't get the wing. I think it should look like this without the cap.
  24. I'm wanting to put a Gaylord's Speedsturr Wing Tonneau Cover on my SS. I know I will have to take the stock tailgate cap off. My question is will the tailgate have the holes along the top for the bolt-on stock caps like the other trucks do? Can anyone post a pic or two of one they have done on their SS? Thanks.
  25. Brad, What mufflers are you running on your SS? I always liked the dual in dual out mufflers because they act like a H or X-pipe by equalizing the pressure & eliminating the drone.
