  1. I hear you there. I had posted about this very kit, noticing the part about not working for the SS (due to the brackets I guess), and the reflash of the BCM. Others have said you don't need to get the BCM reflashed ... so. The second link is for the switch I think, but if you look at the pic of the kit it has the switch. Right below the light on the left. Of course the pic might not be the actual kit as shipped.... who knows. Still on my list of things to do.
  2. Thought it was Modern Marvels but like I said it was a couple of months ago so you may be right.
  3. Not exactly sure as I don't work for NASA or their contractors (I work for the Navy, we just happen to be based at a NASA facility.) But I think the engines are assembled at the Michoud facility in Chalmette, LA then transported by a special barge ship to Stennis Space Center (where I work.) The engines are then mounted to this huge platform that has all the stuff needed to power them up, monitor them, fuel them, ect. Then they light them off to test them out. I do know that at the Michoud facility they work with the solid rocket boosters also. Prepping them and applying the insulation too the outside of the booster. This is the stuff that came off and damaged the tiles to more than one of the Shuttles. The boosters are then sent to Kennedy via the same special barge where they are mated with the rest of the Shuttle for launch. At Stennis they also are testing the next generation of engines. I also saw the History channel show on the Shuttle, but it was a couple of months ago. Modern Marvels I think it was.
  4. Doubt it. It used to be open access as long as you were on base, but now they have a seperate gate with guards at the entrance to the test platform area. However if they are doing one of the larger tests they sometimes open it up to the public.
  5. The base where I work does all the testing of the engines. The test platform is about 3 miles from my building and when they do even a 30 sec test burn it rattles the whole building. There is a 10 mile buffer zone around the base just in case of a mis-hap. There is a special canal built, complete with a set of locks, so they can transport the engines to and from the test platform. Yea 44 million HP. Now you are talking power!
  6. Is that the one that comes in the wooden box? I think I've seen it but not tried it. checked the price on it and it was like $250. That was about 2 yrs ago. Chit for the longest time we couldn't even get Patron here in MS, had to go to 'Nawlins and pay $100 for Silver. The reason was there wasn't a distributor. Guess they got one 'cos we can get it now even at the MiniMart on base. Silver runs around $50 best part .... no tax (on base anyway.)
  7. Not that one, never seen it before. Pretty nice, it looks like an updated version of the one I use from Palmer Performance.
  8. Used to go all the time when I lived in SC. Now haven't been to a race since moving down here. KissmySilvSS pretty much named all the places I can think of. If you get the chance to take a tour of some of the Cup shops definately go. Penske South is amazing, you can eat off the engine shop floors. I'm sure the others are just the same. One word of caution if you are driving to/from the track that weekend ... watch your speed. The Popo will be out hot and heavy, and they don't give much leeway. Some of the best times I've had have been at the trackside campgrounds/parking lots. What a party ... bunch of really good people. Have a good one!
  9. Just did a quick search and came up with this. https://www.tonnocover.com/productline/1070...bed_covers.html The Bakflip is actually better than mine. Mine is mounted on top of the bed rails, and the center two sections fold up then stack on top of the one closest to the cab. Thats the way its stowed, it doesn't fold up to "protect" the rear window. Its got snaps that keep it from unfolding while driving.
  10. Don't hav ean inside mount. Mine came with a factory hard tonneau, maybe dealer installed, but its on the RPO code list. Its very similar to the FlipBak models. Its got three hinges and folds into four pieces. Pretty neat I think. I get questioned about it all the time. I'll see if I've got a picture of it around.
  11. Roger that! Thanks. Its for an '03 without cladding. Just have to get it painted, its silver, needs to be Victory Red.
  12. Yea that's what I thought too.
  13. A friend says he found a steel ram air cowl hood (similar to a Goodmark) for an Avalanche for $200. Just wondering if this is the same as a Silverado hood. I know the trucks are very similar but would hate to get it and it not fit. I'm currently in the middle of the Pacific so I can't check it out myself. Does anyone know? Thanks
  14. CAI- Vararam Exhaust- Gibson cat back Tune- Not yet The Vararam is the only mod I've done. The exhaust was on it when I bought it. Plan on doing the tune myself. I've got Tunercat that I've used for years. The only reason I stayed with it is its one of the only programs to tune my '96 Vette with and I'm familiar with it. The thing is with all the different variables I'm not sure where to start. Things seem a little different than what everyone talks about with HP tuner or EFI live. I guess I'll just have to play with it some.
  15. Didn't know that part. Guess it makes sense though, them being a non-profit org. part anyway. If they are non-profit how the heck can they be making a profit? They would have to sell at their cost. Something fishy there. Not doubting you, just their practices/policies.
  16. Yea the NEX buys their fuel in bulk, that's why the prices don't jump around as much. Plus they average them from across the US. I did see on MSN the lowest price in the US was in Adell, GA ... $2.01 >>> this was Monday!
  17. Chit two weeks ago in Guam regular 87 was $4.01, on base it was $3.38! Glad I don't have my SS here. Wondering how you guys like those 91 octane tunes now? Mines still stock and I have no problems running 87, still the 15 mpg sux. I would drive the Vette, it gets around 20-25mpg (depending how heavy my foot is) but it pings like all get out if I think about putting 89 in it.
  18. Yea I've always heard get as big a cooler as you can afford. Not to mention even the largest I've seen is relatively cheap price wise. I think I had a 15,000 lb GVW in my old Vette with the auto tranny. I'll most likely go with one of the R/V type coolers.
  19. What about towing with the Yank? I occasionally tow a car hauler, with either my Vette or the GF's 350Z (around 4500-5500 lbs with the trailer) to the mountains in NC. The stocker seems to do ok, but I do get some downshifts when pulling up the mountains. I was thinking that a TT3000 would help me out a quite a bit. Right now I'm pretty much stock, but plan on doing a cam/headers down the road.
  20. I haven't dealt with them personally but Thunder Racing is pretty well known on most of the LS1 sites. They are located in Baton Rouge, LA. Thunder Racing
  21. Welcome to the site! I am currently in West Ashley, visiting the folks for the holidays.
  22. I checked on those splash guards. They are made by "Powerflow" ... Model 5 ... they fit pretty good ... but not the way I would have mounted them, now that I see them. I got some pics, but need better ones.
  23. Mine doesn't have XM, or Onstar. It does have Sirius though, the antenna is just above the windshield on the drivers side.
  24. Jeeez guys I didn't even realize that the truck didn't come with those splash guards. I couldn't tell ya who made them they were on the truck when I bought it. They fit pretty well, like I said I didn't know they weren't stock. I don't think the bug guard will interfere with the Vararam, its screwed into the underside of the hood ... right along the lip. One thing ya'll didn't catch is the double sided tape along the drivers door. The previous owner had those aero vents, but they were removed when I bought it. Still need to take some mineral spirits to those and get the residue off. Thanks for the comments, my buddy says I'm pretty lucky ... a good truck is hard to find, and he's impressed with this one. He said he was thinking about getting a blue one (he's from KY but I don't hold that against him LOL) when they first came out.
