  1. Thanks for the tip but won't need to worry about that right now because the engine is torn down to the block. No heads, cam, intake, radiator fan etc... I will post pics with in a day or two of the tear down....
  2. UPDATED NEW PICS I just decided to let every one know that I finally let my father have the reigns on my truck and do an engine build. My father has over 30 years experience in the auto and racing industry and is working with the guys at GM to build the best possible custom ground cam, springs, pushrods, rockers, set up to include ported polished heads milled at .010./ new plugs/wires/thermostat/higher fuel pressure regulator/cats cutoff/ported and polished throttle body/ and several other things to include a custome tune of course. I will have pictures to show during the build to show you the guts of the truck. Before, during, and after pics comming soon. Thanks for looking and please leave comments if you like. Here is before and during engine work. after still in process
  3. I was wondering if anyone was running a whipple twin screw non intercooled supercharger with there truck. I was thinking of buying this one for the 2003 ss silverado. Will it work? The original Whipple box has "2000 Suburban" written on it and the instructions are for "1999 Vortec 4.8, 5.3, 6.0" The kit may fit other years make sure you know if it will fit your application before bidding.
  4. So I am assuming that the truck manifold should be fine.. and since it is a truck manifold it probably flows a bit better then an ls1 that is in the car because of the more torque the truck has.
  5. I was wondering what intake manifold the 2003 ss silverado has. Is it ls1? Would it be worth getting a ls2 or any other manifold than stock? I am getting my heads ported and milled and going with a different cam.
  6. Nice engine dress up. Where did you get the silverado fuel rail covers? I would like them in black and white letters. nice turbo setup.
  7. Ihe only numbers I could find were '99 323-L 10/99 which was on the mounting bracket of the charger and 323-S which I found on the back bottom near what looks like a vacuum port because of a hose that connects to it.
  8. I was wondering if this whipple will fit on the ss.
  9. a $125 is not all that expensive, check this website http://www.big3performance.com/Store/store...p;CategoryID=24 I would use my exsisting cold air intake so i would not have that ugly tumor looking thing dangling and restricting flow. lol
  10. It has to work better than with out. coooler air pulled in from the open road is always going to be better than a intake under the hood soaking up all the engine heat with no where to pull cool outside air... on a cool cloudy day it might not matter but on a hot sunny summer day all the air flow you can get would be good.
  11. Ok, here's the scoop on the scoop. I love browsing the depths of the Internet for new parts for the truck and i came across this ram air unit for the ss. It looks functioning and could and will help introduce cooler air to the cai. Take a look and tell me what you think. It is finally time to use the pretty intake scoops at the bottom of our front bumber. It looks a bit cheap but you won't be able to see it anyway. http://www.big3performance.com/Store/store...p;CategoryID=24 oops this was not a good find sorry for wasteing posting space . Well here is a website if you don't have one its only $125. I will keep browsing.
  12. Looks real nice, almost identical to my 77 series k&N except my filter is red and a little bigger.
  13. Thanks for all the good input. Its my dad's shop so I can bring it any at any time for tweaking. We are going to pull it in to his shop and start tearing down and looking everything over. I also have another option if i want to lose all my bells and whistles on the truck. We have a LS6 big block 454 that has a nice solid block and good pistons and no scarring in the cylinder walls. you can still see the cross hatches. Think about it. a Big block 454 naturally aspirated engine making 600-750 hp (when he rebuilds it). and your right about the .10 it would be .01 or .005 a 10 percent cut would be drastic and probably get piston slap. my options are out there
  14. Ok, first my father has been a engine mechanic for over 30 years and he has rebuilt hundreds of motors from muscle cars of the 60's and 70's to newer more computorised vehicles. We are going to do a drastic change to the ole 2003 SS and I have a question. We are going to take the heads off port and polish it and mill them down .05-.10 then I am going to put in a decent cam above stock with new springs and push rods and finally a wheatly tune. The question i am asking about is. Are intake manifolds look composite is this true. because to get a shaved head down to .10 I will have to mill the intake as well. i think this will be hard if not impossible with a composite rather than aluminum. thanks James P.s. I only drive this vehicle in the summer and maybe put on 1000-1500miles a year so when we are done pump gas will be barely usable with the truck.
  15. Thanks appreciate it. I am having a cam shaft with springs and rods, my heads milled shaved and ported. I just wanted to see what launch i could get.
  16. What is the stock gear ratio of the 2003 SS silverado
  17. I was just wondering what brand hood is that and what did it run you?
  18. Is it necessary to stall out high? What if I get a cam with a good lift and duration above stock that has a power curve at 1200-5800 rpm or less like 1000-4500.
  19. I was wondering if the M90 by magna charger will fit the ss. I am looking for a good supercharger new or used.
  20. I see, where could I find a good enough TC. plus a 3000 stall is a bit high for me I have ridden in trucks with that high of a stall you can't even go city speed limits with out it slipping in and out. 3000 is about half of the rpms the truck can go with a 5500-6000 red line. well thanks for info any cam suggestions for my applications.
  21. I will be running stock heads, stock or maybe a trail blazer torque converter. and only mods would be intake and full exhaust and i will tune it after the installation. I will be changing springs and pushrods
  22. Abosolutly agree. But two extra cylinders is a improvement you can not just drill out on the ls1 block. The point I am trying to prove if you take the blocks as they are ford v8, ss v8, srt-10 v10 engines as a whole lightnings have no place. To me it is kinda like having the "lightning" an import fast and the furious turbo blow off vs a naturally aspirated muscle car. no hard feelings I am not trying to get in to a pissing contest. plus I love the cadillac drive and comfort of the ole' SS
