  2. Thank you for the quick reply TXARKITEKT

Shouldn't be no problem. I've had my share of dealings with door panels.

    ~*UPDATE*~

After picking up my truck and getting home and looking into the matter.

The door panel did not have to be removed....

I simply took a 1/8" x 4" flat scredriver, located the 1 of 2 tabs (Top) actually holding the light in. Applied some down and outward pressure and the unit popped right out in my hand. Unplugged the old and plugged in the new and popped right back into place.

With the lens already missing, this gave access to the tabs.

Job took about 3 mins

  3. Hi

    I have a simple question.

The truck I just purchased was missing the lens on the passenger door marker light. So the salesman got me a new part. I thought it would be just a lens but it's a complete assembly.

Do I need to remove the door panel to make this replacement or does this just pop out?

I don't have the part in my hand or it might be pretty obvious. The dealer called and said my truck was ready for me to pick up and that he had the new light. (Sounded like he got it for me but isn't installing it LOL) It was brought up after the sale was made so yea, we missed it before the haggling began.

    Thanks for your time.

  4. Any knowledgeable GM dealer should have one,i believe the '"retainer" acts as a cup holder also and is pretty expensive from what i remember.

    Thanks for the reply kissfan03ss

Yes I did manage to find a part number for it online finally.

But Porno Joe Hooked Me Up!!

A deal has been made, Payment sent. I am no longer WTB:

  5. IMO, I would pay the little bit extra and go with a Carriage Works 5-PC set. The fit and finish is among the best for bolt-on grilles! I have installed over 10 (5 of them mine, 5 for friends and customers) and they all bolt-up flush and look great!

Thanks once again. I'll go that route. Now if I can just find the post where Fireman31 said he purchased his. I looked at it a couple days ago and they were having a Valentines day sale

Guess I could PM him if he's online.

The Mods Begin. Next finding the Bowtie.

  6. I believe they will sit the same. I would do a bolt over.

Yes I think your right NTMD8R_SS.

I'll most likely do the bolt over. Looking at the Poll atm @ 9 to 1 in favor of bolt over. That seems the route to take especially if the end results is about or near the same. Seems the majority of SSS.com is using the B.O. LOL I just had to say it that way. *Chuckles*

I'll keep watching this poll but at the rate it's going so quickly I'd say. We can all tell what the outcome on this topic is going to be.

Thank you guys soo much for the input and to Fireman31 & KissMySilvSS for posting pic's. Both your trucks are BEAUTIFUL!

So Carriage Works bolt over's is the best choice or are people getting decent results on the $150.00 shipped sets off Ebay?

The price doesn't concern me much, just wonder if anyone is using the Ebay one's and if they looked as good as the Carriage Works. (I know you get what you pay far). See my sig. LOL

  7. mine had a the grill cut out with billet grill installed when I bought it. Whoever did it before did a crappy cutting job, but mine sits pretty well flush with the front of the grill

it does look a ton better not being able to see the stock grill behind it though.

So do you think it set's further back then the bolt on type or about the same?

  8. Yea I'm leaning toward the cut out. I would love to find a side by side image to compair. I had cut out the grill in my 95 Z-71 and it was no big deal, In fact I don't even think there was a "bolt over" choice back then.

I was more concerned with if the cut out grill stuck out as far as the bolt on? I think if the billet face / front sticks back to where the OEM is it might look a little nicer, More 3D'ish so to say.

I did notice one of the webs on my OEM grill was broken out, So it isn't a perfect grill so I can really go either way here.

@ smoke03 The truck is Victory Red. I thought about just painting the orignal grill black.

I suppose one has to purchase either bolt in or bolt over grill's, I'm sure it's two diffent kits.. I planned on the 5 pc set.

Thank you for your input

  9. Hi everyone.

Sorry if this has been covered before but I'm a virgin SS owner and want to do the Billet Grill as well as the SS Bowtie of course.

I've seen pictures of Bolt On Grill's and Im not to sure if I'd like that or not. From the closes up's I've seen you can really see the OEM grill pretty good but I haven't really found pictures (Close Up's of the two to compair them).

It seems that the "Bolt On Grill's" stick out further / flush with body. Do the "Cut Out Grill's" retain the stock location of the OEM or are the as forward as the Bolt On's?

    Thanks for your time.

  10. Hey All

I just purchased an 2003 SS and requested an ashtray. The truck had a lighter but no ashtray. So he happend to have one in his file cabinet (Just the cup). I said what's to keep this in place? He said OH you just put it in a cup holder. I was ACK!! then I'm short a cup holder. He played dumb on the retainer.

While viewing members rides I noticed some seemed to have a holder (Retainer as GM calls it).

So I'm just seeing if anyone has one laying around or hangs out at the pick-a-parts (Junk yards) that they are willing to let go of / Sell?

I bought the SS on Sat. and it went back tonight so they would have it ready in the morning for a few items they promised to repair / replace. If I don't hear from anybody fairly quick, I'll just try to have him order me one at their cost.

I'm not going to try and push the issue to far beings they are making me 2 new keys and a new key fob. They only gave me one of each. (I'm sure the keys are not cheap) (Haven't searched that one yet LOL).

    Thank for your time.

  11. Thank you for the welcome folks.

drclaw I'm near Sedalia pretty much center of Kansas City & St. Louis.

Small town living but Hey! What's a Smog Test?

LOL Seriously. Since moving here from Cali I haven't missed dealing with all that. I do miss the Family there, the Beach, Pick A Part's, Car Swaps & shows and some of food places. In & Out Burger for one :D. Everytime we fly back that's the first stop once we leave the airport.

Now I need to find out how or what type of ashtray is used in these SS's, It didn't have one so the salesman gave me one or part of one. I've seen pic's where it was located next to the cup holders in the long oval opening. But what he gave me would just slide around if I stuck it there. Oh well. 1st mod LMAO

  12. Thanks for the welcome.

Well. I had to make an adjusment to my profile.

I am now the owner of a 03, Victory red, SS whoooo woooo.

It's all stock, 65,000 miles, new tires and carpet (Due to previous owner took his Great Dane with him everywhere).

    They were asking $20,995.00

I had an 95 Z-71 Ext Cab with 98,500 miles in very good shape in and out for a trade.

    The final outcome came to...

My Truck + $17,107 which included a 4 year, 48,000 mile Platinum Warranty.

    $21,000 asking price

    - $1,000 off voucher I got in the mail that ended today.

    - $5,500 trade in for my truck

+ $2,500 Extended Bumper to Bumper Warranty 4 years, 48,000 mile from todays date and from starting current mileage. So I'm covered till  113,000 mile ;)

They originally only offered me $4,500 for my trade in but when I brought up Extended Warranty and that I knew they were Negotable. The salesman actually went to check on the price and said they wanted $3,500 be we could have it for $2,500. So that brought my total to $18,000. I said I'll give your $16,500 including the warranty. He came back with, well they'll go $17,107 and bumped up the trade in value. So that will help counter the taxes due when I reg it.

There was some paint chipped of the talegate hande and bezal that I said needed fix as well as some tiny chips in like 5 places. I wanted new floor mats, an ashtray, a better detal job. Buffed out, (not that it really needs it but he brought it up) and the A/C Heat system checked. because when I dialed over to A/C it took a little bit but then kicked in. But when I went back to heat the wifes side warmed up right away and the driver side stayed cool. But after lookin in the manual it was probably an error on Me. I didn't change over to A/C and it wasn't in AUTO. Oh he's tossing in a full tank of gas and 1 free oil change as well. It had a ½ tank of gas in it. He said hell use up what's in it and when I come to get it on Monday to do the "We Owes" He'll fill it up then ;)

    I'll shut up now.

Just thought I'd share a pleasent experance at a Stealership.

I know you all will say post some pic's. We'll they had it listed on Ebay so I'll just post that link :)

  13. Some have had their front diffs replaced/rebuilt as all of the AWD SS's have the notorious "frontend growl". I have 40k+ on my 03 and have not had any repairs to it, but it does growl some. As for the climate controls, others have looked into it and they pretty much determined that it is a real project to do it. Here is a thread that talks about it.

Thank you Rays B4U for the quick reply.

I'm off to look at another red one here in town. it's got 65,000 but for as much as I drive it would take me 5 years to get 100,000 LOL

I'll let you all know the outcome. I might be an SS owner here shortly ;)

  14. Hi Everyone.

I've been looking for an SS for a couple months now and think I found a Red 04 with 35,000 miles. Previous owner already had the front axles rebuilt, is that common for that to need rebuilt for such low mileage?

One other thing about it is bugging me.

I wanted it to have the "Auto Climate Control" for the heating & AC rather then the manual bars. Well come to find out it has the manual. :/

Question is can I purchase the "Auto Control Unit" and plug and play it into the manuals place or is there more to it then that?

The truck is about an hour away so before I go look/purchase it I thought I'd ask the experts because I think this small isuue would bug the crap out of me. I know it's stupid but it's just my personal taste.

Thanks for your time. Wish me luck :D
