  1. Yeah that would be fun! I would definitely like to go to the track this summer sometime. I'm no professional

guy but I do my best lol and I think that was someone else holding my camera, good video none the less. Keep me informed if you guys want to do something like that this summer I would be up for it. Not sure if you guys could stay at my place though haha but your welcome to come check out my 57 Bel Air and other car projects I've got!
  2. Matt, check out this thread..

start reading at about post #16. I didn't read through the whole thing yet but I was around for it all. Check it out. It was kinda new to do back then. They have done many more of them since then, and Danny's truck is still running well now in the mid 11's . So they must have gotten it right the second time.

Very interesting didn't know you could do that! That definitely sounds like the way to go with this block if they can't bore whats there. Then turn it into a 408. The bad cylinder is the famous #7, someone ran it lean with boost, same story as riddler's engine. I wonder where I should take this block to have the work done in Anchorage? I've heard of a place in Chugiak called AC Machine or there is always Midtown or ADB just not sure which one to go with.

  3. Hey Justin, I was under the impression that the iron block LS engines couldn't be resleeved from what I had read, I thought it was only the aluminum block LS engines that could be resleeved I could be totally wrong though. Also Brandon, I've done quite a bit with these LS engines just never torn into the bottom end, but from how the rest of the engine is designed I'm sure it is very straight forward. Like you said they are very easy. I think I am going to try and pull out all the old internals tonight if I get a chance. I've seen that book before but never thought about getting it, guess I'll pick it up just for reference. Who knows though this block might be trashed due to the cylinder wall but I'm no machinist so we'll see...

  4. No to hijack your thread but.... LOL I'm fixing to build up a 6.0L block that I picked up as well although it has some pretty good damage to one cylinder wall so I need to take it to a machine shop to see what it can be bored to. By the looks of the one cylinder wall it might have to be bored to 4.060 or .065 since I've heard that is the max, the rest of the block is perfect other the one cylinder wall. Any tips on putting together the lower ends of these 6.0Ls?

  5. So glad to see that the truck didn't go to far and got recovered I was excepting to see another stolen and stripped thread. Makes me glad I purchased and got my SS out of Cali before anything happened to it, lol amazing how many of these seem to get stolen. Hopefully you can get it fixed back up soon!

  6. I want to say from what I have found its the head unit usually that makes the bass and treble really muddy sounding to my ears. With those stock decks you can never really get bass or treble or any clarity to the sound so my suggestion would be to replace the head unit first of all. I know it made a world of difference in my SS by just changing the deck. Also in my regular cab long bed truck I owned for a bit I changed from the AM/FM base radio to the single CD and the sound quality went down when I switched to the single CD so I assume that is also the cause in your 1500HD.

  7. Like already said, How can someone do that. It amazes me how people can do this to vehicle and more less there house. Truck looked great afterward. How many total man hours do you think you had in the whole process?

Pretty crazy that someone could live like that. I'm not sure how many hours I spent on it but I do know it was a couple of weeks of my time to get it back into shape.

As far as the original engine, I checked the oil and it was at a good level so I tried to start it but it would start just cranked over sounded like it only was compressing on like 4 cylinders. So I pulled it and sure enough blown head gaskets the worst I have ever seen. He kept running it with the blown gasket on the passenger side and the firing of the engine eat though the aluminum of the head into the coolant passages and out the side. Also it was missing the drivers side o2 sensor so it looks like the plugs on the driver side fouled out since that side had compression. Now that the truck is gone, I messed with the old motor, and pulled the pan and everything looks fine. My friend had an extra 862 head so I cleaned up the pistons and mating surfaces on both sides. Then I stuck some new head gaskets on for the heck of it so one day I'll test start it and see if I can make it run.

  8. I thought you guys would get a kick out of that. I still can't believe I even thought of taking on this project. Bad bowtie, it was a 5.3L truck originally believe it or not that is one of the reasons I decided to fix it. This definitely tops the list of nastiest NBS style truck interior that I've ever seen! I need to post up some of my other projects too, like the 57 Bel Air, I never posted up finished pics of it here.
