  1. Welcome from Northern California. I am new myself and have enjoyed all the great support that this site offers from its members.
  2. That is F'ed up! Glad to here your wife is ok.
  3. Kenny, Would you take $150.00 for it?
  4. Congrats man The Wife and I did not find out with the first but we did with the second. Its all good!!
  5. I am in my '03 has this problem and I have had it warrantied twice and replaced it once on my own. My wife's '01 Suburban had the problem once. Out of warranty of course, I just pulled the shaft out and put in the vice and added the new grease and have never had that problem again. The SS is a different story.
  6. Both rims are sick! My vote would be for the chrome ones. WTF, get both and change them out every once in a while
  7. Nice, it looks really good.
  8. Man, that looks great. How long did it take you to do it?
  9. You could add to your existing LQ9 and make it a real "Beast" Hot Rod Mag did a two part article on this engine a got over 500 hp with stock EFI and Ignition. FAST Cathedral intake, GMPP L92 Heads, dig cam, headers and PCM tune would put you in the back bench. You could do all the mods without pulling the engine of course you will need to change the converter and add strength to the transmission of course. The LQ9 is a Gen III engine with LS architecture. Here are the links below to the articles. Part 1 http://www.hotrod.com/techarticles/engine/...lock/index.html Part 2 http://www.hotrod.com/techarticles/engine/...pt_2/index.html If you rather not deal with a Beast and looking for a MONSTER skip the 454 and drop a 572 in it!!
  10. Looks really nice with the snow, adds to the contrast. Did you change the SS badge on the passenger door because it looks dark in the winter shot. It gives it that ghost look.
  11. Those are sweet!! They did a real nice job.
  12. Hello Everyone, My name is Jeff and I am the original owner of '03 SS. Its my DD and really have enjoyed putting 87,XXX miles on it so far. I stumbled across this site doing some research for anyone ever doing some engine mods and live in California. I am looking forward to doing a little work to it this year. A little bit about myself, I just turn 40 this year and I am currently serving 16 years of hard labor for having a wife. Just kidding she is a good woman, she has to be for putting up with me for 19 years. We are fortunate in having two healthy kids a boy and a girl that our lives revolve around with school and little league this and that. Sure does make the time flyby! Owning the SS has been a real blast which I think all you can relate too. I have put a K&N air, and did the yes/no pcm tune and put some 22" rims on it. I have a mile long wish list of items that I would like to do to it but I thing I should keep it limited. I am currently looking into pcm software and looking between EFILive and PCTuners. I am planning putting some Shorty headers but would really like to put some LT ones on. The big item that really gets me going is stabbing a GMPP Hot Cam in it. Living here in California we just don't have cars running around as DD with big motors but my neighbors friend that drools over my SS every time but one day he brought over his '08 Vet that has a big cam in it and I was like YES! Talking to him I found out he has put about $8K in to the engine and man does it sound great. Of course he did not do any of the work to it and I know its more than "just a cam" as he says. Anyhow, besides the headers and cam I am looking in putting a cat back exhaust system on it with electrical cut outs on it. I have ordered and efan kit for the wife's Suburban and plan on doing the same on the SS. I could ramble on for a while but I need to get going and I think you have better thinks to do than read some blowhards post. I thought I should say "Hello" and introduce myself and look forward to meeting fellow SS enthusiast and gaining some reliable knowledge from this site. Thanks for reading, Jeff from Martinez Ca.
  13. And here it is! http://www.fuelairspark.com/2/FS/Intake/Default.aspx
  14. The 6.0L engine that are in the SS are LQ9's. From what I have read the LQ4 is the normal truck 6.0L engine. Almost all of the Silverado's/Suburbans, Hummers H2 and a like have the LQ4 in them unless they say VortexMaxx or Vortex HO Edition they will have LQ9 in them. The LQ4 has a cast block and heads with 9.5:1 discked pistons "I might be wrong on the piston ratio can't remember 9.1 or 9.5:1." Most of the latter LQ4's do have aluminum heads on them it depends on the year. Anyhow, the vast majority SS and Hummers H2 and Cadillac Escalades have the LQ9 in them witch is the High Output truck version. Chevy did have this engine for sale as a create motor not sure if it is still available. A lot of street rods and drag strip racers were buying these engines and building high horsepower engines. Hot Rod magazine took a LQ9 engine and replaced the heads with a L92 heads and upped the cam put on headers and got a little over 500HP with stock EFI and ignition. The LQ9 engine has a cast block and aluminum heads the heads have some LS6 parts in them. They upped the compression ratio on the pistons to 10.1:1 and they are flat-top. The cam is different in the LQ9 and it is very noticeable if you have a SS idle next to a normal Silverado with both stock exhaust the SS has a very distinctive lope. The engine lends itself very well to forced induction because of the pistons and cam and you can find a lot of SS on this forum that have very respectful mileage on them without any problems. The pistons due keep you from putting in some serious lift cam in the engine because of clearance problems. I hope I did not ramble off to much but unless it is '06 VortexMaxx or Vortex HO its just a LQ4 even if it is a 2500. Here is a link that get really detailed on the comparisons between the LQ4 and LQ9. http://www.gmfullsize.com/forum/showthread.php?t=150875 I hop this information helps.
  15. Long tube vs short tube here in Cali it means you are going to remove and replace for smog inspection if you go with LT. I just had my '03 inspected and the tech with flashlight in hand he was under the hood under and under the chase looking for Waldo. I asked him "did you loose something because if you if you find cash its mine" he said "just checking it." He was under the chase for over five minutes. I called my buddy that is a GM Tech and he told me that these guys have to check the cats and O2 sensors to verify that they are oem and in oem locations. "WTF" I told him and he then told me that his bother replaced a plugged cat on his '05 Tahoe with an aftermarket and and failed smog because it did not have the correct markings that oem have. I have been kicking the LT vs ST and I am leaning towards the Edelbrock or the Doug Thorley shorty headers because they have are 50 state legal and I do not have to remove them for the smog inspection"taking the easy way out." However, I am giving it some serious consideration or should I say "grow a pair" and put the Dynatech Supermaxx complete LT headers on it and change back to the oem exhaust when it comes time for the next smog inspection in two years. The LT are little more than twice the price of the shorty plus you probably have to change back to oem when it comes time for smog check. Good luck!!
  16. Think she sobered up? Na! After that I think I need a drink!
  17. '03 with 87,xxx with my foot on the floor. Normal maintenance and the only thing I had to fix was the cables on the tailgate. The right side seal on the front axle is starting to weep a bit other than that this things has been solid. The only complaint is this just about passes everything on the road EXCEPT the gas station. That complaint I can live with .
  18. LOL! I was like "no way" until I scrolled down. That was a good one.
